Hotel was clean and the staff were friendly, there was a lot of dutch people at this hotel, which i saw as a bonus. It is very close to the Yumbo center which has 3 floors, one with shops one with restuarants which are all good, Winsor gardens & Centrum especially. The bottom floor was all bars which were all much about the same. Down the sea front there is an Irish bar "Dunes & Tunes" the food in here was good if you are missing food from home.
Beaches are perfect butwatch out for the nudist areas if your easily embarssed.

Being a gay couple we were led to believe that this hotel was suitable for gay singles/couples. No way it is. If you are gay, or in fact a hetrosexual couple without children, I would think very carefully about staying at this hotel.

The bad points first...
On the first night of staying at the hotel, we were both woken up at 6am in the morning with a deafening noise upstairs. There were children running, screaming, jumping, moving furniture. We both were wearing ear plugs, and the debacle still woke us up. We called reception to complain, but the receptionist at that time of the morning, didn't speak any english. We then went down for breakfast to be met totally with couples with countless numbers of small children. It doesn't quite make breakfast a pleasant experience because the children are either crying or running around. We then complained to the english speaking receptionist who promptly moved us to another room within half an hour. We were actually moved to a bigger room.
If you want to relax by the pool.... forget it. The majority of the people who stay at this hotel are Dutch, who are quite lovely people. However, they all had children up to about 10 years old, who all dominate the pool. So we didn't see any couples whatsoever stay around the pool because of the noise and the children using the pool.
So to summarize, this is a terrific hotel if you are a family and just want to stay at the hotel. if you are couple - either straight or gay, think very carefully about staying here.

The facilities are excellent. Great rooms, freshly decorated, great breakfasts, friendly staff. To be fair, this hotel should make it clear this is a FAMILY hotel. It is not suitable for singles, or childless couples unless you have the patience of a saint and will put up with the relentless hoards of very young children.

These are excellent appartments near the Yumbo Centre. The complex is very clean and spacious. The appartments appear to have been newly renovated. They have a large living/dining/kitchen, a lovely bathroom and a good size bedroom with safe. On top of that there is a huge terrace. They have excellent air conditioning and I found them very quiet. Breakfast was also included and there is a supermarket on site. Great bar. We didnt use the pool facilities as went to the beautiful Maspalomas beach every day. This was only 4 euro by taxi. Lots of nice cafes down there as well such as Maximillions and Cafe De Paris. At night ate well in Yumbo at Bei Lelo and others. The Barbacan are a great choice and I will certainly go back. Mainly Dutch guests which I see as a plus!

The Sol Barbacan is a great apartment complex. The apartements are roomy and very clean. The balconies for each apartment are very large and well equipped with chairs table and sun loungers. The apartments are kept very clean and overall they cannot be faulted. The only downside is you can hear the noise from the road outside which is very busy as Avenida de tirijana is one of the main thoroughfares in the resort .
I agree with another review which says poolside is not for those seeking peace and quiet and tends to be verynoisy and yes you have to be up sharp to get a lounger poolside that is in a sunny part as , having been there on business and at breakfast for eight each day, witnessed the beachtowel blitz each morning as the men, seldom the women, rushed to reserve the sunbeds before more sensible mortals had even surfaced. How they could be bothered defeats me.
The hotel restaurant, the a la carte part was fantastic and the fact that the local Spaniards chose to eat there was tesimony to that plus my colleagues were invited into the kitchen for a private tour and can vouch for its cleanliness.
The only downsides were the reception staff who could have been a bit more pleasant and less sullen but have to say any problems, such as my air con needing a kick start, were quickly rectified. The other downside was the resort itself. I hated it. It was like little England. Don't get me wrong I love England but when in Spain or a Spanish Island I don't want to see Benny Hill bars, chips with everything and Spar shops. If that's your preference then you will love it but if you prefer something more authentic then head for Maspolomas which is only about an £8 round trip taxi ride away.

Stayed here for a week in late April/Early May and was extremley pleased with everything we got. Service was top dollar and hotel is extremely clean and tidy so couldn't fault it at all. Good selection of food in the mornings at breakfast too. As I went with my girlfriend we tended to go to the beach each day as I found around the pool to be rather noisy but that was mainly the kids but I'm not complaining.Just in case you are wanting a quiet time by the pool then this is probably not the best hotel for you. Other than that I couldn't fault it.Perfect for families that want to get rid of the kids for the day though

P.S Get down early in the mornings as the Germans like to book up all the sunbeds for the day.

Would go back if I knew there would not be so many kids about.
