I stayed here with a friend and we really enjoyed our stay, but I would recommend this hotel mainly for families. There are lots of activities organised throughout the day for kids and adults, and evening entertainment seems to be aimed at kids (cabaret, magic shows, etc), although there is live music in the outdoor bar too. You need to be up really really early to get a sunbed; on our last day we had a midday flight so were up early and there were at least 30 people with armfulls of towels at the pool waiting for the staff to lay out the sunbeds at 8.15am! As we were never up that early, most days it was about 4pm before we got a sunbed. But the (huge) balconies have sunbeds too. Apartments are lovely, fairly modern and spotlessly clean with comfy beds and great air con and shower. Cleaners come every day; we actually had an awkward experience with a cleaner forcing her way into the apartment despite us protesting that we didn't want the apartment cleaned that day! Apart from that my only complaint would be that on check in we were offered zero information about anything, not directions to our room, info about the resort, facilities, the area, a map, nothing! We only ate in the hotel once, for lunch, and it was very average, my tomato soup was definitely from a packet! But it was cheap so was fine. However, the a la carte dinner menu is far more expensive than any other restaurant we saw in Playa Del Ingles so we didn't bother trying it. There is a supermarket on site but it closes from 1-3pm and at 7pm, but there is another supermarket right across the road which opens all day until 9pm. If you come out of the hotel and turn right and go through the roundabout, continuing down Avenida Tirajana, there are several lovely restaurants within 5-10 mins walk of the hotel, I would recommend in particular Barbados, Mundo and Asia Palace. The Jumbo Centre is a 2 min walk from the hotel which also has lovely restaurants (try Gio Bar) and better shopping than Kasbah which is about a 15 min walk or less than €3 in a taxi. Overall we had a great holiday and I think it was great value for money, possibly dearer than a lot of hotels but you get what you pay for.

Room Tip: I would recommend a room on the top (5th) floor as it is the quietest floor (see other reviews about...

The Sol Barbacan hotel is situated in the centre of Playa del Ingles next to a busy road. To the beach its a 15 minutes walk (approx 1.4km). Inside the hotel/apart. complex you do not notice the crowding of the outside. We stayed in one of the bungalows. Everything in the bungalow was perfect, the kitchen is very compleet, bedroom and beds are good, everything is clean. All the bungalows have a terras, upstairs and downstairs, airco in the bedroom. You have a lot of privacy.
The staff is friendly, the food is very good. For diner you can have a la carte (recommended) or buffet. As a guest of Barbacan you will get a discount of 20% on the a la carte menu in the restaurant.
The hotel has a free car parking.
On the complex there is WiFi you have to pay for, eur 6,- for 1 day. No free Wifi, not even in the lobby of the hotel. When you take Wifi for 9 days you will get 4 days exta, total price Eur 26,--. But for that price......do not expect a fine working Internet. You will often lose your Wifi connection and some times it takes a rather long time to reconnect.
Barbacan hotel is a place for sun lovers. You see a lot of families with children hanging around the pool whole day. The staff is friendly for children. The hotel has also a mini club and an animation team.
We can recommend the apart hotel Sol Barbacan.

Have stayed here before, about 10 years ago.
What can I say.
Apartments and balcony:- Kitchen has all you would need. Good sized lounge with flat TV. Table and four chairs etc. Bed room good size with safe. Shower and bath, mirror hairdryer, comb, razor ,shower gel, shampoo etc. Beach towels for pool. Air Con. Massive balcony with table and 4 chairs and 2 full size sun beds.
Great kids and adults animation team on all day untill 10.00pm at night.
Staff all over hotel were so polite, helpful and cheerful. Place was very safety concious and clean.
You have to be down for 9.00am if you want a poolside sun lounger when busy.
Would definately recommend this place.
We were in a one bedroomed apartment. You can also get two roomed bungalows.
Only ate at lunch time but the food was excellent.

Room Tip: I think all rooms have pool view in main block.

Booked the Sol Barbacan after reading the reviews which I have to say were very accurate. The staff were very friendly, the complex beautifully cleaned and we were very impressed with the food and cocktails (although we only ate there twice).

I find it hard to criticise this place however, if you want a quiet time around the pool area this hotel is not for you. This hotel caters mainly for the Dutch (which probably explains the high standards) and every morning at 10:30 you are woken by 'Billy the Squirrel' and the animation team singing to the song 'Good Morning, Good Morning'. I add this is not a criticism as this was clear in the reviews I read and at least you didn't waste the day away in bed nursing a hangover!!!

We had a great pool view on a low floor as requested when we booked so spent some time chilling on the balcony. The sunbeds are taken from about 9am however, we never really had a problem finding two beds later in the afternoon.

So, if you want a lovely apartment in a very clean complex and you have children or don't mind the noisy kids around the pool this place is ideal.

We would highly recommend this place to others as it's close to the Yumbo Centre and other bars and restaurants.

On another note, if you want a great place to eat go to Wapa Tapa in the Yumbo Centre, the Red Cow for a great Sunday Roast and all the Sports or if you don't mind travelling a little further Grand Italia in the Boulevard el Faro Melonares for great pasta, pizza and desserts.

Room Tip: Room 276 is low floor, pool view on the south side (so lovely and sunny).

When we first arrived, from the outside the sol barbacan looked a bit dated but don't let that put u off as the minute you step inside its luxury. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment which was spotless. As is everything else. All the staff were so helpful and polite from the receptionist to the cleaners and waiters, always someone welcoming you with a smile and a hola! As a young couple we thought the hotel was very quiet and ideal for families and the older crowd but by no means is that a negative. I would definitely recommend sparkles showbar in the yumbo centre for entertainment as they put on a free show every night and the drag acts are absolutely hilarious. Overall would absolutely recommend this gem of a hotel, the trip advisor ratings say it all :)

First time here and my family and I were very impressed. All spotlessly clean and very helpful staff. Resort surprisingly quiet considering it was half term week, as was the hotel. We tried to add another person to the booking but was told the hotel was full so wasnt possible. We couldnt have seen more than 20 people for the whole of our stay so was disappointed that someone missed out on a lovely holiday (down to the company we booked through I assume, not the hotel) No battling for sunbeds as the pool area was mainly empty. Only ate once in the restaurant and that was to have breakfast on our last morning. Food was lovely with plenty of variety. Can't really comment on the entertainment as we didnt see any. I think that was mainly down to the fact that there were so few people stopping there. Drinks and food were more expensive than in the actual resort. Location is a bit out of the way. Took us about 15 to 20 minutes to walk to the beach and cost us 2 euros fifty in a taxi to get back (bit uphill going back to the hotel and was just feeling a little lazy). We had a two bedroom bungalow and this was lovely. Very spacious and the kitchen was the best equipped I've ever seen in all my years of travelling. Large patio area and also roof area to sunbathe on. Two bathrooms came in very handy when getting ready to go out. Not sure I'd go to Playa del Ingles again as we preferred Porto Rico after visiting there for the day,(sea is calmer and cleaner) but if we did, we would certainly have no hesitation in returning to this hotel.

been going to this place for 15 years and I cant fault it except for the noisy arrogant dutch kids and parents at school holiday time. Apartments are big with a balcony the size of a bed room. If I don't get a room a like, I get it changed within a day. the staff are more than friendly and all speak perfect English...nothing is too much for them to do. The pool gets crowded during the day and very noisy at times. bring your earphones!!!!. One major bug is the sol entertainers blast a very loud "good morning good morning etc etc at 10.30 am. Breakfast finishes at that time, but if you want a bit of kip in the morning after a wild night.....beware.......it can get ultra noisy. This is a family establishment so all this is for the kids. If you have a young family, then this is perfect. There is a great terrace bar outside and an inside bar as well. Haven't tried the wifi.......its a bit expensive.......go out to any of the pubs and they have free wifi. If you want to lie in, put the do not disturb sign on the outside of the door......and believe me......you are not disturbed all day haha. Its just across the road from the Yumbo and a good 30 min walk to the beach and there are loads of ATM's up the road. It's a good 20 min walk to the Irish centre but a taxi will only cost 3 eur. Book bed and breakfast. You can eat as much as you want for 9 eur...it's a buffet, so pile your plate up before all the dutch scoff the lot haha. Go there .........it's great

Room Tip: ask for 4th or 5th floor room numbers ending in 60 to 65.....that's the sunny side and the balco...
