When you arrive at this superb hotel there is no queing at reception. You present yourself to reception you give your name and passports, you are invited to go to the lounge area to wait. A glass of champagne is served to you free of charge, you are then invited in your time to go back to reception to sign in. Your luggage as gone and is already in your room.

We paid extra for a high floor with a sea view. We were 4th floor room 4050 if going ask for more central for this approx around room 4055 4058, those have to be spectacular views. Ours was great and the view was breathtaking.
This is a very quiet hotel all rooms carpeted, 2 large single beds pushed together. very comfortable beds as well.
Maid service every day change of towels, linen changed every other day.

Breakfast 8.30 till 10.30 with free Champagne every morning, breakfast on the terrace or in the dining room.

2 sittings for evening meal your choice 6.00pm and 8.00 pm

best time to go down is half hour after everyone else less queues at the buffet.

There is a table service for a main meal every night

Our tabe was not good which the head waiter knew. He came to us the 1st night and said if we could bear with him for 2 nights he would give us the same table as last year. So he already had us on his list. Now that is some planningi was impressed. A few minutes later the Hotel director came by and welcomed us back by name and hoped we would enjoy our stay, and if anything was needed please ask a member of his time who would be more than happy to help.
O.K. you say databases on computers store names and pop up past guests. He did not have to come and say welcome but he did another personal touch was welcomed, all these touches add up to a perfect stay.

Everyone as they pass you say Buenos Dias Buenos noches all day long,
It is all so welcoming

To the right of reception is the WIFI area it is free to use but you need a key and ask for it at reception and you just type it in once to connect. Shame there is no internet in the rooms, There is internet access at a charge with their computers and its not cheap. So if you need to connect a lot take your laptop.

Pool towel cards are available when you check in and you change your pool towels daily at the poolside.

Plenty of sunbeds no arguing all get the sun so no moaning goes on.

NO KIDS we were surprised no screaming kids in the hotel, we saw 2 tiny tots a couple of days before we left that was it (maybe we fell lucky).

Checkout is noon no rush no pressure,
We emptied the mini bar and filled it with our own cans of coke and beers nothing was said and re filled it on exit.

Cita shopping centre 10 mins away mainly german bars.

Yumbo centre aprox a 20 min stroll. Mainly familys and gay night life.
Get used to it men holding hands etc! No big deal, but can be daunting at 1st, all the gay bars are in the square, familys mainly up by the restaurants 1st floor. However every gay bar welcomes you so sit back and enjoy your holiday.

Look out for the guy who impersonates your walk on one of the corners of the downstairs bars, this is usually done to humiliate you for the people sat watching from the cafe. (harmless fun) good laugh.
Also at weekends acrobats in front of the cafes as well same corner.
Taxis dirt cheap 2 euros 15 cents to yumbo 2 euros 75 cents after 12 midnight a euro tip will surfice.
However it is safe to walk either way at any time.

I think thats it The Riu palace playa del ingles is 100% 1st class for all ages but it's stylish and quiet.

We went to visit the Grand Palace 5 star hotel at maspalomas and asked to see a room, It was bad tiny rooms no views. They got the 5 star for the grounds not the hotel.

No you will be impressed with the riu place, if anyone suggests a bad comment about this place there is something wrong wih them.

You can only book direct or with Thomson Holidays pay the extra for the seaview and ask for 3rd or 4th floor 4050 to around 4058 or the same numbers on the 3rd floor 3050 to around 3058.

Stayed for a week at the end of Feb. '09. We were not disappointed, from check-in to check-out you cannot fault the service. The hotel has probably one of the best locations on the island (hired a car to have a look around the island).

The restaurant is optional – buffet or service. The variety of foods is excellent, freshly cooked. Breakfast includes a smoothie bar, the choice of fruits to be mixed is down to your own imagination. Dinner is in two sittings 6 pm or 8 pm, you are nominated a table for your stay – no hunting around for a free table, therefore it is always ready when you arrive for dinner. The food is international with plenty of choice even for the British palate.

The rooms are comfortable with carpeted bedrooms, air-con, satellite tv (with Canal+ i.e. Spanish movie channel with English speaking movies, plus a host of other channels.), cushioned sun-loungers with foot stools on the patio.

There are plenty of cushioned sun-loungers around the pool. Waiter service is excellent, nothing is too much trouble.

Professional varied evening enterainment in the hotel’s lounge bar, finishes early enough for “night-owls” to go out and sample to local bars. Our choice was an Irish bar (approx.15 mins walk up the road) – give our regards to Eamonn, a good host, with live music as well.

Newspaper shop is located with-in 100 paces from the hotel reception.

The only problem we had was our original room location did not suit us, and when we mentioned it to our Thomson’s rep, she’d immediately went and spoke to the reception staff, who arranged another room for us.

This hotel offers the best of service in clean comfortable surrounding. The staff and management of this hotel always seemed helpful an considerate to the needs of the clients. Definitely a 10 out of 10!

We chose this Hotel because of the excellent reviews on Tripadviser, and we were not dissappointed. We have stayed at Riu hotels before so knew what to expect. I have to say this is the best one so far. The staff very freindly, the bedroom was large, clean and tidy. We were able to sit on the balcony and look over the dunes to the sea (the seaview rooms overlooking the pool/dunes might be even better). The food was great - Breakfast everything you could think of (If you want to sit outside you must get there by 0810 to get a table or 0915 when the first ones are leaving) - Lunch around the pool. We chose the salad bar each day, which was quite adequate. Dinner - 3 choices Buffet (with theme nights twice weekly) nightly specials Smoked Salmon - Serano Ham - Huge prawns. Main course so much to chose from from pasta to roast meat. You do get a bit bored after a few nights, but then youi can have waiter service, with a different menu nightly, and the Krystal fine dining experience (we didn't try it, but everyone said it was great, but not enough food for my liking! The majority of guests are German plus the Hotel is in a Gay area, but neither put us off.
Forget the resort itself. its tacky and cheap. We only walked once in each direction. Drinks in the Hotel are expensive 7.20€ for a gin and tonic, but there's a supermarket oposite where 1lt Gordons is 11€, so we had pre dinner drinks in the room (there's a fully stocked mini bar in each room) We did walk over the dunes and along the sea to the next village which was a challenge, but beware its all nudist.
We normally go to the caribbean each year, but didn't want to sit on a plane for 9hours. This is just as good, but we would recommend extra leg room on the flights if you are tall or large as I am!

Four of us stayed for a week lazing in the sun, so the hotel, rather than the resort, was the important thing, and the hotel was great. Very clean, lovely food (Krystal restaurant well worth at least one visit and at no extra cost on half board - but not well advertised - if I hadn't read about it on here I wouldn't have known - it's off the main restaurant and you have to book). Staff attentive and very pleasant throughout hotel. Only negative - don't bother with the tea at breakfast! And evening entertainment rather old fashioned - lots of waltzing etc and made me feel older than my years! But your evening is what you make it - there were plenty of places to sit and chat, or play cards etc, including some outside under heaters if it was chilly.

Hired a car one day and went to Puerto de Mogan - Litle Venice. Beautiful place - quaint pedestrianised little streets around the port with typical whitewashed townhouses...sat in the square at lunch time with a glass of wine listening to 2 locals playing on guitars, and could have stayed all day! Got a taxi one evening to Boulevard de Faro at Melonares (6 euros) - some nice restaurants and bars and exclusive shops....a bit different to the ones in the resort where the hotel is! Generally didn't like Playa des Ingles at all - but I am picky! Shops mostly souvenir tat and didn't really stay round long enough to look for any nicer ones but there may have been some somewhere!

WARNING - Do not sleep with your patio door unlocked! Our rooms were up a flight of about 15 stairs from the ground and our friends next door were burgled sometime in the early hours of the morning while they slept. They woke to find that someone had entered their room via the patio and their belongings - handbag, trousers etc were strewn over the patio having been searched. Passports and credit cards were ignored but cash, a mobile and a watch were stolen. Luckily they are insured but the thought of someone in your room whilst you are asleep is scary! The hotel management whilst concerned did nothing really - no other guests were advised to be cautious and although the Thomson Rep spoke to the manager they were not prepared to offer a token gesture of goodwill of any kind. We didn't let it spoil our holiday although we had to spend time going to the police station etc.

Despite that we had a great time and we were very impressed with the standard of the hotel and in particular the food.

Stayed the first two weeks of Feb on half board found the rooms very nice with two good easy chairs, flat screen TV, good bed (firm). and good quality patio furniture. Kept clean by helpfull housekeeping staff.
Nice restaurant, good quality food with plenty of variety, cooking ok but 2 weeks of buffet food was enough. Krystal restaurant option excellent. Nice helpfull staff.
Hotel facilities good pool very good with plenty of sun loungers.
Overall a chain hotel but a well run one, with a very visable and proactive management team. Location is unrivelled

Having stayed previously at three other Riu hotels, we knew
what to expect: excellence, and were not disappointed.
Yes, there are always things which could be improved, as
anywhere else. The coffee is poor and tea making facilities in the bedroom would be welcome, BUT these are very minor points, against overall excellence.

Food good quality; choice good, bedroom comfortable, staff
good, all as expected from other Riu stays.

Yes, the customers are predominantly German and I don`t think
we gave them any cause to be upset, so why should we be upset?
Also, for some reason, the area is on which attracts both nudists
and homosexuals, but this has nothing to do with the hotel (although they do tend to use the thoroughfare which passes
centrally through the two parts of the divided hotel), so if that
prospect bothers you, perhaps it`s better to stay away from
Maspalomas altogether.
