“Another enjoyable stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2013

We missed our annual mid summer visit to the RIU Palace Maspalomas so decided to take a weeks break at the end of November. You do take a chance with the weather but its always warmer than the UK, specially at that time of the year. We had an odd dull day and even rain one evening but also had the bonus of a couple of days when the temps rose to the high 20’s. We flew with Thomsons from Birmingham which was without problems. In fact it was smooth all the way including the taxi transfer.
We are regular at the Hotel and always have a great welcome from reception staff and porters. Our room request was met and whilst we sat having a welcome glass of bubbly our cases were quickly transported to the room. No hassle whatsoever. What a treat Our first floor room was in a quiet area of the hotel with a lovely view over the Dunes towards the Lighthouse at Maspolomas. The beds were on the hard side but a request for a softer style was met immediately. They used to keep foam toppers but now provide the more modern foam topped mattresses on request. The room was very clean and spacious with loads of space for clothes etc. The AC was efficient and very quiet. It went a bit cool in the evenings so we would lift the temperature a bit but it was not needed once you were under covers.
We have always been impressed with the standard of the Buffet food and were not disappointed, in fact we both felt is was even better. There was a larger selection of savory starters and the cheese selection was much improved with self service rather than the trolley bought round by the waiter. There was no table service which we had occasionally used in the past but we could live with that. We did have one evening meal in the Krystal restaurant and that too was of an excellent standard with waiter service of course. Always like to have the odd visit there as it make a change from the busy self service.
The quality of this hotel is well documented. A large number of guests return on a regular basis which is always a good sign . Many of the staff have also been there a long time, including, of course Roberto Jimenez the long standing Director who I have always maintained runs a Hotel that sets the standard for others to follow. Long may he continue and we again look forward to spending 2 weeks in June 2014

Not much to say about this hotel that hasn't already been said by many before me. It was our first time in Canaries and I was a bit hesitant about being half board after many years of All Inclusive. I need not have worried. I cannot stress too highly the quality of service by every member of staff. The food is exceptional (we preferred the main restaurant to the fusion restaurant) a selection and quality which we have not experienced in any other hotel in our fairly extensive travels. Our room was on the second floor in the main section of the hotel which allowed us a fairly good view of the sea, both pools and garden. We chose the second sitting for our evening meal so we had no rush to get tidied up after a day by the pool or out and about or just relaxing on generously sized balcony. There were very few children which was great for us and I would say that the majority of guests were in the over 50 age bracket but don't let that put any younger couples off. This hotel is well worth a visit and we will certainly be returning in the future for some glorious winter sunshine. A brief word of warning if you want to venture across the dunes....they are bigger and wider than they look and be prepared to bump into numerous nudists and Gay couples.

Room Tip: Try and get room in main body of hotel as opposed to wings as pleasant views in all directions even...

This was our fourth visit to this hotel. My wife and I stayed for a week between 9th- 16th December 2013.Upon arrival we experienced the usual professional approach from the reception staff who welcomed us back.We had requested a sea view room but were informed that as hotel was full they were giving us a pool view room on the first floor. We were disappointed but as we hadnt paid the supplement for a sea view were quite happy. That was until we got to the room which didnt have a pool view but did have an excellent view of the restaurant roof. I requested another room and was shown to a room with a view of the road down the side of the hotel. We rejected that as well.Reception staff were unfailingly helpful during this time and eventually found us a room with a pool view on the first floor. The restaurant and food were once again of a good standard and the entertainment wasnt bad either. The in house band were okay but nothing brilliant. The staff were as always friendly and helpful. The rooms are still nice but showing signs of age and as other reviewers have stated are in need of refurbishment. The beds definetly could use an upgrade as they are very hard. This is still a lovely hotel with beautiful and well kept public spaces but they will have to really start planning a refurbishment of the rooms soon.

Room Tip: Book a high room with sea view.Anything on fourth floor is fine and gives excellent views.Taxis are...

we stayed for 10 days in riu palace maspalomas. It was our fourth visit to this hotel.
Check in was fast and very professional, we asked for a room on the fourth floor by email in advance and it was given. The room is very comfortable , nice terrace overlooking the pool gardens dunes and sea, marvellous !!!
The bed is so so, two beds pulled together , it is not a really comfortably bed, not a palace or a 4 star hotel bed !!!
Bath room ammenities very poor, 3 star hotel ammenities only
Satellite television in the room, mini fridge also, housekeeping is very good !!
service in the hotel is very friendly and professional, food in restaurant is good , not exeptional, buffet buffet buffet ..., last years we could also order 'a la carte' now this has been finished, cheese for dessert service has also been finished
we ate at Chrystal restaurant one day, it was very good
the hotel is kept in a good condition, good location between the dunes, beach 20 minutes walk and yumbo 15 minutes walk
spa, sauna , hamam facilities are good
no free wifi in room, only in the lobby, not a palace or 4 star hotel worthy, even in the supermarket opposite the hotel you can free internet ? !!

Just spent one week holiday in Riu Palace Maspalomas with my husband and we enjoyed a lot! I agree with most reviewers here, but what made us the biggest impression was the quality of service! We have traveled a lot in many top-quality hotels, but here the level of service was taken into yet higher level with the feeling that the staff was genuinely interested to serve us. A very good example was my dietary request (gluten-free) which in many places means barely a bun in a plastic and even that after asking several times. In Riu Palace Maspalomas my request was taken into consideration in a very smooth and pro-active way, which impressed us a lot. I was offered automatically gluten-free bread at breakfast, gluten-free pizza at restaurant and I was told just to ask anything that can be prepared gluten-free. The staff made my holiday, thank you!

P.S. I didn't find the rooms noisy, maybe it depends on the room location?

This is an absolutely fabulous hotel! However, it has one so big problem that that takes most of its credits away for me and should not happen at a hotel of this category and price tag.

The problem is the construction of the rooms so that they are not soundproof whatsoever. Does your neighbor sneeze, watch tv (on absolute normal sound level), does someone open the curtains or, worse, the balcony door, you hear every single sound. Nothing wrong for early risers, but not for me. Before 8am, the cleaning staff ride their carts around and unfortunately, they do not walk to eachother to ask something but talk loudly to cover the distance between them.

This said, the rest of the hotel is just amazing. The staff is super friendly and unlike other reports here we did not need to bribe anyone for a (nice) table or later dinner time. If you book this hotel, be sure to add the half board option. It doesnt cost too much extra but you get an incredible choice of food, different menus every night! If anyone would complain of breakfast or dinner... That is impossible! Hardly ever seen such a choice of luxury! Even the sit down a la carte dinner restaurant Krystal is included in this half board package.

The staff is fantastic, very observant, helpfull, fast, just great, and multilingual. The pools are fantastic, there were always chairs and beds available with comfy cushions, and the location.... Is just a dream, right at the dunes with the ocean behind. The pool was colder than the ocean, unfortunately. The drinks are very reasonably priced. Wifi is only available in the lobby and not the fastest, but is free. The rooms and beds are very big and comfy and clean, as are the balcony and bathroom.

If the rooms were better soundproof, this hotel would be one of the most perfect hotels I know. Unfortunately not a problem easily solved. Unless you enjoy a daily early wake up.

Room Tip: I always enjoy higher floors better

Having been to this hotel some 8 years ago, we thought that it might be a good time to revisit, and this hotel did not dissapoint us, great staff, very freindly and helpful, excellent position, the food was well prepared well presented with an excellent range of choice. there was no shortage of sun beds, although they where beening reserved there was always many available for use. The hotel itself is large and spacious as are the rooms, always very clean and tidy, but I think this hotel is in need of a little TLC as its starting to show its age, although this does not detract from from its overall quality. I think that when booking this hotel it should be pointed out that this area along with the dunes and beaches do attract a very large gay comunity
this may offend some people. We where aware of this from when we last visited.
Great shopping in Melonares which is just the other side of the dunes or a short taxi ride away, all in all an excellent choice for a holiday.

Room Tip: If possible get a high room if sea facing as the palms sometimes obscure the veiws.
