“Lovely hotel, welcoming staff.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

Spent a week here end February, first time at this hotel although have stayed Riu before. Everything was as expected from this chain. Staff friendly but not over-familiar. Plenty of choice of food for vegetarians or non-meat eaters. Don't have anything negative to say about the hotel or staff, but whoever was in the room above was tossing their left-over croissants onto our patio, and also dropping ash and butts. Not the hotel's fault of course, but maybe people should be a little more considerate. If your'e the culprit and reading this - think before you throw!

Room Tip: Most of the rooms seemed to overlook one of the two pools, but if you want a sea view then you need...

We have visited this hotel in the past and the location on the very edge of Maspalomas dunes will either suit some or be too far from the sea for others. It is a 15 minute walk across sand dunes to the beach. The taxi's are very reasonable so visiting other areas is easy with the taxi rank outside the hotel.
The hotel pools are very nice although the pool area around the larger pool needs some maintenance to the broken and missing tiles. The restaurant buffet style menu is fairly comprehensive and there should be no problems with finding something for all tastes. The downside is the size of the buffet area to the number of guests and the area does get crowded at the later (20.00) dinner and I personally found it too busy for comfort. The breakfast was varied and far less crowded although the practice of have most of the outside tables reserved and unused while people were queueing for a table was a bit perplexing. These reserved tables would eventually be used but it seems there is a two tier system in operation and tipping is used to get a better service.
Rooms are large and well appointed and comfortable with TV . but no room kettle.
The service has deteriorated since our last visit and the preferential service offered to some guests has excluded this hotel from future visits.

Beautiful hotel right at the edge of the stunning sand dunes in the south of Gran Canaria. Exceptionally clean, with excellent staff and service. The buffet style breakfast and dinner provided a good choice of well prepared food, with several fish, meat and vegetarian options every day. The Krystal restaurant has a more limited menu, but the ambiance and quality were exceptional.

The guests were mainly German, and predominantly over 40, with a fair number of gay couples and the entertainment was principally aimed at this audience, although the resident band (The Silvers) did try hard to liven up the atmosphere with some good old rock and roll (as opposed to waltzes and quicksteps).

The beautiful dunes and the beach, quite literally, cater for all tastes, from families, to gays, naturists, and even swingers. Just pick your spot carefully. At regular intervals along the sea front are numbered kiosks selling food, ice cream, soft drinks and beer. Number 4 is where the naturists congregate, number 5 is predominately male couples etc. Beware of wandering into the dunes behind kiosk 4 unless you are broad minded,

Overall a really enjoyable stay in a lovely location. We will probably come again, but not in the height of summer - the sand was already too hot to walk on in April.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing into the hotel gardens. Ground floor rooms have restricted view but much bigge...

From the moment we arrived in the sunshine we were so pleased with our choice of hotel, it is beautiful, clean and in a superb location. The food was fabulous, we are not normally keen on help yourself buffet style but his did not feel like that and you also had the option to have certain dishes served to you. The pools were superb with pool side waiters so you really could relax. The main thing that made this hotel stand out was the staff, they were attentive, polite, courteous, friendly and really made a fuss of every guest, I couldn't compliment them more. I could go on and on with further compliments! I would highly recommend this hotel and will certainly be going back.

Room Tip: We had a standard double with sea view, which was really lovely.

My partner and I had promised ourselves a holiday in the sun to get away from the cold English winter. I have become somewhat physically handicapped recently which made choosing a where to stay more difficult. Eventually we settled for the Riu Palace in Maspalomas. I have read some of the reviews of this hotel and couldn't agree more with what they say, for example, 'from the moment you step into this hotel you are made to feel special', and 'the Riu Palace has a wow factor'. There may be a few hundred guests staying in this hotel but you are treated as if you are the only one. I could not fault the hotel. It is located in a beautiful position with views over the dunes down to the sea. The terrace and area round the pool are elegantly designed. The rooms and private balconies are very comfortable, the restaurant is excellent and above all, the staff are marvellous and really go out of their way to be helpful. I have never experienced such good service anywhere before. It wasn't our first choice being a bit more expensive than some others, but I am so glad it became our choice because it is really worth that little bit extra. Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: We left it to the hotel. There were three of us and both rooms were excellent and one had superb vie...

From the moment you step into this hotel you are made to feel special. The rooms are very nice with large terraces. Spacious stylish clean comfortable homely grand all these words spring to mind . The atrium area outside the room is fabulous and the sea view - palm trees and dunes at your finger tips . The bar terrace is stylish and relaxing with good entertainment - the food is just perfect - every meal is delicious with perfect choices - like home cooked - in a word the hotel is perfect - do not miss this opportunity. Thank you to all the staff who all speak English for a lovely holiday . I will be back.
