From the moment we arrived in the sunshine we were so pleased with our choice of hotel, it is beautiful, clean and in a superb location. The food was fabulous, we are not normally keen on help yourself buffet style but his did not feel like that and you also had the option to have certain dishes served to you. The pools were superb with pool side waiters so you really could relax. The main thing that made this hotel stand out was the staff, they were attentive, polite, courteous, friendly and really made a fuss of every guest, I couldn't compliment them more. I could go on and on with further compliments! I would highly recommend this hotel and will certainly be going back.

Room Tip: We had a standard double with sea view, which was really lovely.

My partner and I had promised ourselves a holiday in the sun to get away from the cold English winter. I have become somewhat physically handicapped recently which made choosing a where to stay more difficult. Eventually we settled for the Riu Palace in Maspalomas. I have read some of the reviews of this hotel and couldn't agree more with what they say, for example, 'from the moment you step into this hotel you are made to feel special', and 'the Riu Palace has a wow factor'. There may be a few hundred guests staying in this hotel but you are treated as if you are the only one. I could not fault the hotel. It is located in a beautiful position with views over the dunes down to the sea. The terrace and area round the pool are elegantly designed. The rooms and private balconies are very comfortable, the restaurant is excellent and above all, the staff are marvellous and really go out of their way to be helpful. I have never experienced such good service anywhere before. It wasn't our first choice being a bit more expensive than some others, but I am so glad it became our choice because it is really worth that little bit extra. Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: We left it to the hotel. There were three of us and both rooms were excellent and one had superb vie...

From the moment you step into this hotel you are made to feel special. The rooms are very nice with large terraces. Spacious stylish clean comfortable homely grand all these words spring to mind . The atrium area outside the room is fabulous and the sea view - palm trees and dunes at your finger tips . The bar terrace is stylish and relaxing with good entertainment - the food is just perfect - every meal is delicious with perfect choices - like home cooked - in a word the hotel is perfect - do not miss this opportunity. Thank you to all the staff who all speak English for a lovely holiday . I will be back.

First time to Gran Canaria in January 2013, the Riu Palace definitely has a Wow factor.
Elegant, stylish and also energising.
The reception area is fresh looking with slight vintage tones.
The rooms were more than spacious, modern decor and always clean.
The restaurant area was a continuation of style of the reception. A second slightly more intimate restaurant, more modern but equally as good as the main one.
The staff always polite and very helpful.
Good sized pool and plenty of sun loungers, not to mention the views over the highly acclaimed sand dunes which were stunning by day or night.

Thompson's have certainly under rated this hotel.

Second stay at this hotel, for our 20th anniversary. Getting the moaning out of the way, my main issue with this hotel was repeated both times we have stayed. Namely if you arrive on a late evening flight from UK with Thomson there is little or no chance you will get a good room. We had tried to anticipate this and sent a note, but it didn't work and we were given a room which had no sea view thanks to some palm trees. We moaned and the Receptionist sent us to a second, worse room in the corner of a floor with tiny balcony next to the maids store room. By this stage, I was boiling and we went back to reception, to find the guy who had promised the second was a great room, was hiding in the back. So I let go at new receptionist who asks me to wait till the next day when he could offer a great room. Obviously unhappy, i finally go back to the first room, but of course we can't unpack and we decide to go out for a few drinks to relax. To the hotels credit, it was all sorted next day and we moved rooms but I firmly believe the hotel should charge different rates for sea views on floors 1 and 2 than on 3 or 4 and charge less for the corner rooms. We were now on 4 in the centre and loved it. Rooms still good and whilst the same decor as previous stay, but that felt re assuring too. We actually thought the food had improved with more chefs out front or cooking to demand and the evening in Krystal was brilliant since our anniversary was recognised with the table decorated. All service in restaurant and bars was excellent and pool area was great as ever. All in all, stay was great once we were allocated the room we wanted and would have paid extra to guarantee and avoid the unpleasant first scene in reception. Thomson - please note feedback since I think you can/ should do something about this since there are more than a few comments about the difference in sea view rooms on higher floors and those with small balconies in the corners.

I have just returned from a week long stay in this Hotel. Having read some of the reviews beforehand I was a little sceptical about its 4 star standard. Thankfully it is a very strong candidate for a 4 star Hotel and it would not take much to move it up to 5 star.
From the moment one arrives the service and friendliness of the staff is incredible....every member has a smile and a courteous greeting whether it is the Manager or the cleaner in the hallway. The rooms, although not luxurious are nice, very clean and always kept to a good standard. The breakfast is the normal but there is a very good choice and it is lovely to sit out in the morning sunshine and listen to the lovely birds overhead. Lunch at the poolside does not offer a great choice and perhaps this is something the management could look at. The service once again makes up for that and it is very easy to become lazy lying by the lovely pool. Dinner is a great experience and the choice of food is exemplary. We got a great surprise on returning to our room one morning after breakfast to find that the room had been cleaned and a bottle of champagne left for my wife's birthday. That evening our table was decorated differently to everyone else and we received a special starter and dessert to celebrate the occasion. The Hotel is not cheap but it gives a great service....I most definitely will return. I have stayed in more luxurious hotels but I have never ever stayed in a hotel where the staff are this exceptional.....it makes all the difference.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a seaview....it is lovely to come back in the late evening and sit outside with...
