This hotel has recently been refurbished and is now adult only - perfect! The staff are very friendly and couldn't be more helpful. Food was very good and plenty of choice at breakfast and evening dinner. All the meat, fish and breakfast eggs are freshly cooked, although the vegetables and potatoes could be on the cool side if you didn't dine when the restaurant opened at 6pm. Only downside is that the tables are very close together. The pool area is lovely and there is a waiter service from the pooside bar. Snacks are also served at the poolside bar. Pool is heated so even in January it was lovely to swim in and there are fixed loungers in the water so you can just relax & stay cool. Rooms were very clean and serviced daily. We were initially given a room on the ground floor near to the pool which meant that guests around the pool could look over into our terrace. I asked to switch rooms and was given a much better room on a higher floor. Hotel is very near to the Yumbo Centre so there are plenty of bars to go to at night. It's about 20 mins walk to the beach, but there is a courtesy bus at various times during the day. I can't fault this hotel and would definitely stay again.

I was appealed to write my own review in addition to my wife`s review "Rude, rude service". In addition to the horrible way the hotels manager treated us regarding the cleaning of the room. We also had "small" problems with the cleaners during the whole week of staying there. I noticed on the second day that all the coins from rooms table were gone. I didn`t think much of it and thought that the wife took them. On the morning after incident with the MANAGER i yet again was shocked to see that the coins and few small bills were gone. We were absolutely stunned and disided to do a test. I left my wallet with about 30 euros and a handfull of coins on the table before cleaning lady came. When we came back ALL THE MONEY WAS GONE! We didn`t know what to do since the manager hated our guts and it was the morning of our departure back home. We just checked out and left for the airport. I don`t know how this sort of treatment of a paying costumer is possible, and in europe. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL!!!!!

We have just returned from a lovely week at the Riu Don Miguel and think it was one of the best hotels we have stayed at, regardless of star rating. We booked through Thomson, but from this summer it will be available through TUI’s Skytours range for adults. It is located in the resort centre, a 20 minute walk to the promenade, or a 5 minute courtesy bus ride to the beach. The Yumbo centre is only 100 yards away, for shops and restaurants. Several supermarkets are within 100 yards. The nearest bus stop is 200 yards away.
On arrival our passports were collected and we were directed to the reception lounge area to avoid standing in a queue, then called forward and booked in individually and our passports returned immediately.
We had been booked into room 213, one of the several rooms overlooking the street to the side. We were initially a little disappointed but decided to stick with it and pleased that we did. Even in January we got some sun in the late afternoon onto our balcony. Of the 251 rooms only about 100 face the pool and another 80 or so face the street to the south without a pool view. Most of the remainder face the street to the west, and a few faced north overlooking the tennis courts and mountains and a low rise residential area.
Our room was quite spacious with comfy beds, nice furnishings, plenty of hangers and sixteen drawers! No shortage of clothes space here. The hotel exterior and rooms seem to have been refurbished recently in white, blue and pink and looked very fresh. A safe was available for 14 Euros a week.
The pool area was very smart with enough sunbeds, a pleasant pool with flower beds surrounding, and was always very clean. A new gym was accessed by a stairway down from the pool area.
All of the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the restaurant staff. We were greeted every evening by senior staff and management – a lovely touch. In fact the management were very visible all week, even lending a hand when needed. The food was excellent too with plenty of choice, much of it cooked at the show cooking area, so it was always fresh.
The evening entertainment was quite acceptable, the resident duo were reasonable but the stand-ins were better. Three times a week there professional acts in – dancers and speciality acts. We really enjoyed the Circus Queens night – a mix of a strength and balancing act, and a very funny “queen” act with three performers. There were two tall elegant young queens and a much shorter older guy – very funny but not at all crude, more like panto!
Most of the guests in winter are not from the UK, so be prepared to rub shoulders with Germans, Dutch, Polish, Italians and Scandinavians. Most people will be aware that this area is very popular gay resort, so be prepared to be in the company of many male couples in the hotel and around the area.
One word of warning – be prepared for a long walk to your room if you are allocated a high number on any of the floors. Up to about room 30 on each level is in the central block and only yards to the lift and stairs. Higher numbers take you onto further blocks with a longer walk.
All in all this was a very pleasant place to stay and a hotel to which we would willingly return. Some folk come every year!

Room Tip: Only about 60% of the rooms face the pool, but only a few rooms face the mountains.

We stayed here for 1 week November 2012 for the first time in this hotel. We found it excellent!
The room was very far away from the reception but that was not a problem to us.The plus side was it was nice and quiet. We have been to PLI for alot of years now and stayed in 2* / 4* accommodation. We think this hotel is perfectly suited for us as in location in the resort.
The room size is above average for a spanish hotel and was ok for us and contemporary in style.
The food in the hotel was of quality and good variety through from breakfast to dinner.
We found the hotel staff throughout the hotel first class.
We have just booked up for a second time in November 2013 for 2 weeks!!!!!

Room Tip: Love this place and all the customers that were staying in the hotel at the time. We like it now it...

We are staying at Down Miguel for two more days and considering of changing hotel because of rude service from the hotel MANAGER! During our stay we haven't been staying up late or bothering other guests, but today we got treated like human filth by hotels manager! The reason why the Manager desired to look down on us as if were the lowest cast of humans was that we had some of our shopping bags on the floor along with an open suitcase. Manager busted to our room and almost screamed at us for not keeping our room clean. The housemaid had complained that our room is so filthy that it can not be cleaned. Then manager pointed at our bed witch had a remote and a our mobile phone on it and said `this is unexpected in our hotel`. After her rude comments and insult s she just went away. We travel a lot in Europe and Asia, and newer I mean newer have I have been treated this way in a hotel. I do not recommend this hotel to no one ever!!!!!!

I was very surprised with this hotel having read such positive reviews on Trip Advisor and having had a recent stay at the Riu Waikiki which was excellent; everything said about this place seems to be because it has been refurbished.
Rooms are small and minimally decorated but the pool area is quite smart; that being said there aren't many sunbeds and you guessed it the best ones are taken by folks (older) who will go outside at 8am fully clothed and sit on them until the sun comes up which maybe a couple of hours; it is quite sad to watch them.
The biggest let down here was the food; it is a not-so-merry-go-round of the same bland fayre served nightly with little invention and for the most part it is cold or at best lukewarm; we ate in less than half of our time there and my partner became thoroughly depressed with it refusing to even go to breakfast where you could find such delights as sprouts, broccolli or garden peas from the previous night; also the chefs inventions seem to stretch only to delights such as multiple omelettes (breakfast)which contsin the previous nights leftovers and paella with sprouts and carrots AND snails (evening).
We went here half board and did in no way get any sort of value for money; also you will be charged for your drink even if it is water at the evening meal so prepare yourself for additions to your "half board".
On the whole very disappointing and glad to get away in the end.

Was very pleasantly surprised by this hotel. I stayed for 7 nights from 4th to 12th January, and I really don't have any complaints at all. The hotel was renovated last year, and they have done a fantastic job of the public areas. The rooms, though basic, are immaculate and perfectly adequate. Location is great - right across the road from the Yumbo centre - and about a 20 minute walk to the beach. The location means its more sheltered than some of the waterfront hotels which makes a big difference in January. The food is typical buffet style, but with plenty of choice and of a good standard. One tiny complaint is that they don't label the buffet very well, so its not always easy to know what is on offer!! Finally, the staff were very helpful and really friendly. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel for a great holiday.
