“Good holiday had by the whole family”
Reviewed July 18, 2013

Family of 5 stayed here for one week in July. We all had a really great time.Plenty of activities for all ages. Aqua aerobics for us girls in the mornings is fun. Rifle shooting, shuffleboard,
darts, french boules all ok.Water polo, football and volleyball for the lads in the afternoons. The team that arrange the activities work tirelessly. Don't forget to take your own beach towels, you cannot use the hotels. we put our towels out like everyone else.We found the balcony sunbeds the best. Not so busy.We emailed the hotel before arrival asking for 2 rooms next to each other in block C with pool views. Our request was granted.Reception staff great.Food plentiful with lots of choice for all.Drinks were good, serve yourself beer, wines, hot drinks, fizzy drinks.Cocktails you need to ask the bar staff for.We only had one day out to Palmitos park.We bought the tickets at the hotel reception,(same price as at the park). You can then go in the fast track queue. The bus went from outside the hotel next door. Only 2.20 euros each.We thought the cost of the park expensive at 29 euros each. Food and drink in the park was also expensive. So we just had a drink 4 euros each and ate when we got back. We went on this holiday with Jet 2 holidays and cannot fault them or the hotel for the excellent service they both provided.

Room Tip: Block B or C 4th or 5th floors with pool views.

We booked a trip for one week for this July 10th -17th, the Hotel is quite large and the rooms were a little tired, formica was jaded on drawers, bath marked etc, I booked the room for me my wife and our 11 year old daughter, the room consisted of one bathroom and one living/bedroom quarters, there was NO separate room for our daughter!!! Her bed was plonked at the foot of ours, I complained to the desk and was told all the rooms are identical. I explained that as a married couple we needed some privacy and was there a rep to move us to another chain, we were told no and they would ask the manager, they never got back to us..... The food was buffet self service, trouble was it was the same dishes night after night!! The pool was nice but there was the usual fight for loungers, if you were not up by 8-9am you struggled to get a free lounger, lots of towels on empty loungers though. We had to complain twice about yobish Germans who were throwing food and spitting over their balcony, were were also disturbed by lift engineers banging and drilling during siesta time. We wouldnt go back there.... Also the beds were way too hard and we didnt have a decent nights sleep once...

Although the hotel was clean we did encounter a couple of cockroaches but pleased to say not in our room.
Our room on the other hand we would describe as a little shabby and were quite amazed that our daughter had to sleep on a put up bed at the foot of our own bed. Not ideal for a married couple as I'm sure you can agree.
The staff were great and we can not complain about the service they provided.
The food could be a bit more desirable as it was practically the same menu every night and after the 3rd day we opted to eat out.
The location wasn't too bad and not too much of a walk to the Yumbo Center which we dearly love.
The pool area was nice and clean as was the pool, but unless you was an early bird and up at the crack of dawn, you was not going to get a sun lounger as it seemed there wasn't enough to accommodate for the amount of guests.
We made the most of our time there inspite of a few hiccups.
This would not be our choice of hotel in the future but on the whole it wasn't too bad considering.

hotel was fantastic! the staff were super friendly and the food was ace and cocktails were part of the all inc too! there was always free sun loungers and pool entertainment. those who want the clubbing experience the clubs/bars are a 2 minute walk around the corner which were always packed. the beach is about a 5 minute walk but there is a free shuttle bus. taxi's are dead cheap and aqua land is well worth the trip. the maids cleaned the room everyday with out fail. when you check in you don't have to pay for the safe (most hotels are rip offs for this). I would recommend this hotel for couples, families and groups it was fantastic.

Had a look at trip advisor before booking this hotel and booked due to the positive reviews it has, well, we were not disappointed, after being all in inclusive in turkey last year we were a bit sceptical about doing it again due to the crap food in turkey, riu Waikiki was fab in comparison, food was great, proper meat on the menu and a special every couple of nights like a carvery or a huge paella, rooms cleaned daily, a stroll to both the yumbo and kasbah shopping centres, activities for all not just the kids and the animation crew were very keen. Played tennis in the blazing sun, air hockey and pool in the shade, water polo football volleyball shooting darts and shuffleboard all part of the days activities. Loads of sun loungers but you do need to be up early if there is a group of you to get beds together. Overall deffo go back and totally recommend. Well done riu Waikiki !

Just returned from 12 nights at the Riu Waikiki Gran Canaria.
The hotel is immaculately presented and all the staff work like Trojans to keep it this way. The rooms are again very clean, towels changed daily.
The food was in the main lovely with a reasonable choice of starters, mains and sweets. Drinks are plentiful offering beer, wines, cocktails and soft drinks inc fruit juice. All the pumps in the restaurant and bars face the customers so you just help yourself.
All the public areas including around the pool are meticulously cleaned everyone morning by the staff.
Now the not so good bits!
The restaurant is far to narrow and in no way peaceful when you are sat trying to enjoy your meal. You are given a set table for evening meal and we were sat next to the aisle along buffet area so were constantly barged into which isn't great when you have just put a fork in your mouth! You expect a place of this size (505 rooms) to be busy at meal times but having to queue in long lines with others jumping in all the time is not much fun.
The beds are two very nasty cheap camp beds pushed together with very hard mattresses and if you like me tend to move around a lot in bed they creek and groan at your every move!
The worst problem of all by far is the type of clientele the hotel seems to attract and welcome.
We are in our early 40's and no prudes but the behaviour of a lot of the younger customers, of which are the majority is appalling. We were in block E which is furthest from the reception and between 2-4am every night you were woken up by gangs of usually men screaming and hollowing at the tops of there voices in the block. They had obviously worked out due to the towers shape and design that noise echoes around and must have found this amusing. It was like they are stood next to you in bed!
Any sign of hotel staff to move these idiots on? Not once. Also if you go for a walk in the morning to the shop for your newspaper be careful to avoid the piles of sick every 50 yds from said clientele! We complained and were moved to block B after being informed that they put all younger groups in blocks D and E away from the main areas. You have been warned! If you require a quieter nights sleep insist you are in one of the other blocks. Even in block B I was woken at 3.45 am with someone f'ing and blinding at a chap in the next block who had asked him to be quiet as people were trying to sleep but he was obviously more interested in punching his lights out instead!
Would we go back? Not a chance, and its a shame because its a nice hotel but Riu seem to like having the young drucken gangs in rather than familys and couples. Sorry Riu, not your usual standard and you can keep it!!!

Was at Riu Waikiki 1st July for one week this hotel is okay clean and basic. The hotel caters for mainly Germans about 1000 people fill the place 800 of them are German not a problem but they can be very rude. The Thompson rep a little cant be bothered attitude food very repetitive what don't get eaten one night is in morning breakfast , entertainment no very good .. The keep fit woman very good at pool side activities could do with music playing in bar area at night .Yumba centre fab Ricky's Bar great entertainers but they are going to be they are English. Beach fab lovely and clean. To end this review I paid £495 all inclusive all you really need is a place to shower and sleep so not to bad drinks ok food tolerable mix and match lots to do outside hotel buses to take you all over don't book through Thompson to expensive .

Room Tip: Rooms small clean no air con...beds hard one pillow can request more...
