“A very pleasant meal”
Reviewed January 31, 2012

We had a very pleasant meal at this restaurant after a long walk to the Yumbo Centre from our accommodation. The service was good and the restaurant was fairly full and several couples were dancing on the small dance floor.

Don't know whether we picked a quiet night but there was very little atmosphere at the Yumbo compared with our many visits there five years ago. It does look as if the all inclusive accommodation is taking people away from the commercial centres.

“Good Quality food but expensive for what we had”
Reviewed January 15, 2012

On a previous visit to the yumbo centre myself and my partner have dinner here before. This time the food was equally good but for some reason the prices seem to have increased. In the end we paid just under 50 euro for 2 main meals, 1 soup and 1 bread. Yes I did have a peppermint steak which was very nice but all in all I could not justify paying that ammount of money again based on the food was consummed.

“Keep your wits about you when paying the bill”
Reviewed December 21, 2011

The service here is unusual, to say the least. Our order was taken by a very friendly and efficient woman dressed all in black, then the meal was served by a young lad wearing a checked shirt and a pork-pie hat who looked as if he had just stepped in off the street. Finally, when I asked for the bill, a young male cashier wearing a white jacket and a leather pouch full of banknotes appeared.

The bill was €33.10. I gave the cashier a €50 note. He put the €50 into his pouch then asked if I had change. I produced €3.10 in coins and placed them on the table. He looked at them and said, "What, no tip?" Slightly put out by his presumption, I replied that I wanted him to give me €20. He said, "I can't do that." We looked at each other; he was not handing over the €20 I was due back. Assuming some misunderstanding on his part I said, "Look, let's start again. Give me back my €50 note." He gave me back the €50, which I put in my wallet. I then took out a €20 and a €10 note as payment, plus a few more coins to add to the €3.10 already on the table. Again the cashier looked at the money but did not pick it up. I said, "Well, there you are. That is the exact bill paid."

This is when things became truly bizarre. He said, "But I just gave you €50." I replied that this was the same €50 note which I had given him at the start but which he had been unable to change. He then asked, "Are you sure you gave me that note?" and began to tell a long tale about how if I really had not given him that €50 then he would be out of pocket at the end of the night, and it was his first day in this job, and was I quite sure that I had given him the €50, etc, etc. By this time people at other tables were looking round at us.

I continued to reassure him that yes, I had given him €50 at the outset and that no, he would not be out of pocket at the end of the night, but he continued in this vein for a couple more minutes before finally going away.

I left the Skansen restaurant with a bad taste in my mouth. Either this cashier is a complete idiot who should never be given any position of responsiblity with money, or he was trying to pull a fast one on me. Fortunately, I knew exactly how may banknotes I had in my wallet at the outset, and I drank only one beer. Other diners, after a heady night at the Skansen, might leave with their wallet lighter than they expected.

“Great food in the Yumbo Centre”
Reviewed June 17, 2011

There are so many places to eat in the Yumbo Centre - this one was recommended by someone we met, so we gave it a go. We had a main course each - the Skansen Kebab (mixed grill) I had was great, was really impressed. The Connect 4 sets on each table were a nice touch although the service was pretty quick so it didn't get played that much.
