“Fair review from a seasoned traveller”

My partner and I have just returned from this hotel. Our stay was hassle free.

The staff were all very kind and one girl in particular was a big help in advising the best places to eat.

The hotel is very clean and very quiet. It's maybe 4 star for Spain, but it felt more 3 star for me. My partner and I had twin beds on arrival and the mattresses were very very firm. There was a hair dryer in the bathroom that wasn't particular strong. The shower was good and the balcony was nice. There was a TV in the room too if you wanted to catch the news.

We didn't eat in the hotel but by all accounts the food is quite good.

The safe cost €14 a week to rent, I would expect this to be free for a 4 star hotel, as I said it was more like a British 3 star.

There are two pools, one salt water and one chlorine. The pools were not heated, I think they are only heated in the high season which is Sept-April (I didn't know this at the time of booking), so the water was quite cold despite the high temperatures. The hotel provided beach towels for €5 deposit, this was really good and you could get fresh towels every day.

WiFi was only available in the hotel lobby, again for a 4 star I would expect this throughout the hotel.

The hotel is tucked away in a corner of San Agustin and is ideally placed for those wanting to access the beach (can be accessed via the pool). However, San Agustin is not the place to stay if you want to dine out without having to get a taxi. The shopping/restaurant centre in San Agustin is run down. We found ourselves going to Playa del Ingles most nights which cost €5-€6 euro one way in a taxi, you could walk which takes about 30-40 minutes which is quite pleasant and safe in the evenings as it is well lit. There were no restaurants in San Agustin that offered a light lunch either, it was mainly pizzas which was quiet frustrating.

The hotel was occupied by mainly older German couples so there wasn't much interaction with the other guests. It was very quiet by the pool and there was no sun lounger hogging from any of the guests.

Breakfast is continental (as you would expect when the guests are mainly German) buffet. The breakfasts were fine and plentiful for us but if you're a fussy eater you might struggle.

All in all, a clean, small, quiet hotel. If you like your peace and quiet and are happy to dine in the hotel this is the place for you. It's worth noting that as it is the low season I would say only 30% of restaurants are actually open in Gran Canaria.

I'll be adding reviews for the places we ate too.

We went to San Agustin Beach Club for a long weekend and we were wonderfully surprised by the level of facilities and service the hotel supplied. The design of the hotel, in the shape of the boat gave every room a brilliant view of the 2 pools and the sea. The beach was literally on the doorstep. The hotel was did not have any children at it and this made the stay nice and quiet and relaxing. The hotel only has 57 rooms and this gave you plenty of room around the pool. The food was excellent from the buffet style breakfast with a choice of yoghurts, continental style breakfasts, cooked breakfasts, breads, freshly made smoothies, juice, fruits and coffee and tea to the 5 course special night dining. This all made you feel special and staying in a higher quality hotel. The rooms very clean and had everything you needed, from a fridge to a safe. The water was also hot, if you needed it. The town of San Agustin itself is quite small and quiet, but the best part of the service at the hotel came from the evening Reception person called Alain. He was always so friendly and helpful and recommended places to go. Nothing was to much trouble for him. Around the area, the Timanfaya Pirate ship trip is great for children and adults, the town of Puerto de Mogan (the Venice of the Canaries) is lovely and the new Bahamas beach at Amadores is a must. We would definitely go back there again

We stayed in this hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel was small in comparison to a lot of commercial hotels and was designed to look like the interior of a cruise ship and looked affective. The hotel only has 57 rooms. It was clean, the staff welcoming and we could not fault anything at all. The food was excellent and even though we went to find other places to eat we ended up coming back to the hotel for dinner. Breakfast was plentiful and there was a large selection of cheeses, yoghurts, dairy and soya milk, meats, breads, fresh fruits and cereals. They provided freshly made smoothies for breakfast each morning. they would also cook you a omellete or fried egg if you fanced one!. My only complaint was the coffee. If you wanted a real freshly made coffee ground from beans then unfortunately you had to pay extra. The rooms were cleaned every day and fresh towels and linen supplied. We had a superb room overlooking the two swimming pools and a wonderful seaview with a balcony.
It was quiet and it was a adults only hotel so we could relax and read or just have a swim or use the jacuzzi or get a pampering if we felt we wanted one. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wanted a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. We were glad that we hired a car to take us out in the evening as there was not really much to do. Everything is easy to get to around the island as they now have the motorway. We spent some time in Mogan a beautiful fishing port - a definite place to visit.

We have spent a very pleasant week at the San Augustin Beach Club. The facilities are luxurious and all encompassing. There are two bathing pools - one with sea water. The restaurant has a master chef who is very imaginative. The system of full table waiting is much more ellegant than a simple buffet and one can ask for many servings. The staff throughout the hotel is very pleasant and forthcoming to acommodate. Milla, Tonhi, Dragica, Allain and others really do put in good effort in their work. Our room was spacious and with an impressive sea view. It was also done up to a very high standard daily. I must also praise the staff from the wellness centre led by Arantza and Jazmine. The hotel is on a quiet part of the coast but still near other beaches - apart from the hotel's one - and perfect for a good rest. The evening and day programmes are there but very discreetly. I would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly.

My sister and I had a lovely relaxing quiet week leading up to Easter and would recommend this hotel. The staff were extremely friendly, cheerful and helpful and the manager often appeared at mealtimes to greet the clients. The food was good, two buffet/ bbqs a week and the other nights there was a served meal with a choice of 2 dishes per course or a five course meal. The portions were generous on the whole and the meat was good quality. There were very few Brits, possibly just us that week, the guests were mainly retired Germans and Swedes who all did the towel- on- the- sunbed thing before breakfast! (Unnecessary as there were plenty of sunbeds). The pool area was large with good views of the beach and sea. We had a large room with good sized bathroom which also had a pool and sea view however I would recommend requesting a room on a higher level than ours (1st floor) for a better view. The only aspect we weren't so keen on was the 'entertainment' which occurred approx 4 evenings- either a trio of elderly male singers/ guitar players serenading each table (awkward!) or a couple situated at one end of the dining area who sang too loudly and not always in tune.

Room Tip: Above 1st floor level

Back from one week at the Beach Club. You felt welcome, very professional staff. We loved all of it, especially the food. We could take all our breakfast and meals outside on the terasse with view to the sea. We took half board and did not regret it. Very tasty and varied. Gourmet cooking at its best, if you like trying new taste and new combinations. There was 2 barbecue evenings with buffet for salads and vegetables. On those nights, you were offered a glass of sparkling wine for starters. 3 evenings with 3 course meals (2 options to choose from on the offered menu) and 2 evening with 5 course meal. The view to the sea was great and we loved the walk to Playa del Ingles next to the shore. There was a small shopping centre at 500 m up the street with supermarket and restaurants. We rented a car and were lucky to always find a free parking space on the street going to the hotel. The machine for parking with blue line showed it would cost 1,8€/day for cancelation of any fine, but 4 hours would cost 2,4€. I did not get the logic of it. There was several evenings with live music during diner and a dance presentation. It was nice as it ended up early. We wanted to rest and we could do it easily. We enjoyed the quietness. The pool was warmed at 22C and jacuzzy even warmer. Drinks reasonably priced. Would definitely go back for a holiday without the kids. The only drawback I could find was the pillows which were very flat.

Room Tip: Seaview is worth it.

We stayed at the San Agustin Beach Club for 7 nights during February 2013. We had previously stayed at several hotels in the Canaries but this was the most enjoyable. The staff were very friendly and helpful and they always had time to talk to guests to the extent that we felt among friends by the end of our stay. The accomodation was of a high standard with a large fully equipped bathroom and the rooms were spotlessly clean. Most of the rooms had a sea view and overlooked two pools, a jacuzzi and garden area with comfortable chairs and sofas in addition to sunbeds. We were particularly impressesd with the food which was not the usual buffet style that we were expecting. There was a mixture of cordon bleu style meals served at the table and theme nights including a Spanish night with a group of musicians playing Spanish guitars in the dining room and also a barbecue evening. There was entertainment on most evenings. The hotel is ideally situated with direct access to the beach and pleasant walkways along the coast. The main bus route was an easy walk away with frequent buses to all towns along the coast and the capital, Las Palmas. This is a hotel which we would recommend to friends and family and would be happy to return to in the future

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a sea view
