I booked this hotel on-line a week before departure as it was a last minute decision for some sunshine after the awful UK summer.
I chose this hotel for my wife and myself after reading the reviews over the next door Iberostar Costa Canaria purely because it had a secure car park for the car I had hired (keycard opened the barrier).
I made a good decision. The room I booked (standard sea view) no 426 did overlook the sea.It was clean comfortable and we particularly liked the pillow menu which allowed us to choose which type of pillows we needed. The bed was very comfortable (two large single ones pushed together) and the bathroom was well supplied with shampoo, conditioner, bath gel and soap,as well as slippers and bath robes. When we entered the room we found two pool towels on the bed with a notice saying that we could change them any day for clean ones.
The cleaning ladies were all very friendly and couldn't do enough to help.
We booked half board for 10 days and the restaurant never disappointed with choice and quality of food at either breakfast or evening dinner.
The gardens were superb and the pool area was always clean and tidy with the lifeguard on duty every day.We found the sunbeds a bit overpowering and used the beach, access via a keycard gate onto a promenade which ran all the way along to Playa des Ingles which was good for an after dinner stroll. The sea was very warm and the beach patrolled by the lifeguards who very vigilant. The small pool we found to be very inviting as usually at around 5-00pm we were the only ones using it.
I found that by booking on-line and becoming an MAS rewards member I got a better deal which included a free english newspaper every morning.
San Agustin is quieter than Playa des Ingles and Maspalomas and nearer the airport which we found more relaxing.
We really enjoyed our stay and will probably return in the future.

Room Tip: Higher rooms have better sea views.

You can relax poolside or on the beachside terrace. NIce tropical feel to the gardens and pool area. Really enjoyed eating my breakfast outside every morning, buffet was very good with extensive choice. Rooms fresh, comfortable and very clean. Staff very friendly. If you don't have transport half board is best as San Augustin restaurants are a bit limited and mostly located in a ghastly shopping centre. The best place for outside lunch was El Capitan a 2 min walk along the beach.
San Augsutin itself feels a lot more organic than a lot of other resorts on this coast and is not overdeveloped.

Winter sun - weather fantastic for a break in Oct. Hotel clean this includes bedrooms, beds, bathrooms, and all areas e.g. pool. Breakfast - there was a very good choice of food and all fresh and to a high standard. Aqua aerobics everyday was good fun with very nice multi- lingual staff. Pool clean and lifeguard always present. Towels for pool, sunbathing supplied by hotel and can be changed everyday if required. Hotel description says about the spa and sauna areas but these are at an extra charge. Evening entertainment is ok but not to everyone's taste e.g. young people. Some nice eating places within short walking distance

We visited Maspalomas, Puerto Rico and Playa des Ingles via bus (bus stop on the road outside hotel) and decided we were staying in the nicest place.
As we were only b&b we shopped at the supermarket opposite frequently buying water and fruit and ate out every evening. We'd have preferred more restaurants to be on the beachfront near the hotel but it was ok - we were impressed with Balcon de San Agustin. Breakfast had a superb selection and we always ate too much because there was so much choice!
The room was fine, yes a little dated but it was thoroughly cleaned daily and we were very comfortable. It was nice to have a balcony and we didn't mind having a mountain view room because it meant our room was cool as the sun never shone on it.
Staff were mainly pleasant, but sometimes unhelpful and we suspected this was because of our young age. During our holiday, we celebrated my boyfriends 21st birthday. The hotel put a bottle of cava and petit fours in the room which was a lovely gesture. I booked a table prior to our holiday at the hotel restaurant - huge confusion was caused here because this is not the norm. Furthermore, when we arrived at the table we had wine and water in a bucket which I assumed was another birthday gesture, but the waiter took it away which was strange.

We attended aquarobics which was hilarious and I'd recommend it for a laugh! The pool was beautiful, but even in October it was difficult to find a lounger after 10am. Personally we preferred the beach as it was less busy and the waves are huge.

The hotel is HUGE, I have never stayed anywhere so big.

We had a lovely, relaxing holiday and would recommend to others.

We are very happy to read that you found our location the nicest place to be, it is indeed! We are also delighted to hear that you enjoyed our complete breakfast buffet, which is the best way to start the day at Meliá Tamarindos! We are awfully sorry for the misunderstanding suffered with the booking of the table at the mentioned dinner. We are happy to read you liked the little gesture in your room on your boyfriend’s birthday; thank you very much for choosing us to celebrate this important date. It is a great satisfaction for our Animation team to hear that you enjoyed their Aquaerobics; it is indeed one of the most beloved activities during the day. Once again, we wish to thank you for sharing your experience with the online community on Tripadvisor and for recommending us to your family and friends. We look forward to welcoming you again very soon, sunny regards from Gran Canaria!

We rested in the hotel for the second time.
Location is excellent, Staff was very accomodating and nearly flawless service. The room was spacious and comfortable. Room cleaning was excellent. Every day the room a new newspaper
We stayed half board and although the food was good choice, but for me it is very limited. I do not eat meat and fried food, but I was not hungry, you can always choose something. I was even able to get wholemeal bread at breakfast.
Beautiful pool, plenty of beach lounges, different models.
This year, they made a big gym, where used to be a library. But there is no air conditioning. Great embankment to Maspalomas for sports. Free parking available.
I recommend this hotel for a relaxing holiday.

Have just returned from a one week vacation at this hotel. I travelled with Travel Republic and paid £2300 including flights from Manchester to stay in a’ Superior Room’ all inclusive with a sea view. This rate also included car hire for the week which was with Europcar at £71 for the week. Although I had queried if the rate included all insurance and fees and was told yes, I was hit for another £105 on arrival, this being £85 for a full tank of fuel and £30 for additional insurance. Beware of this car hire company.

On arrival at hotel I was upgraded to a ‘Junior Suite’ which I have to say was a delightful room. Very spacious and split into 3 areas, Bedroom with sliding door into a lounge plus a hall / dressing area and en-suite. All areas very clean and although I agree with a couple of reviewers that the décor is a little dated in this hotel, I think this adds to the overall charm of the place.

There are stunning gardens to the rear which give access to a sun terrace / bar area, I really loved this part of the hotel. I never struggled to get a sun lounger although to get a ‘good area’ one needs to be up and down relatively early (before 9am). This terrace area then gives access to a beach at the rear.

Generally the waiters are good although some do struggle with English which can be frustrating when trying to order a drink or food. One example of this; there are no tea and coffee making facilities within the rooms; this we were informed is legislation in Gran Canaria. Fair enough, however trying to get an English cup of tea proved almost impossible. Green tea tended to be the one that turned up; in the end we just ordered hot water, milk and cups and supplied the tea bags ourselves.

Food is excellent and service in the restaurant is second to none, this hotel on the food alone makes it worth a visit, enough said.

Overall I really enjoyed the week and would have no hesitation in returning
