Cofete beach like mopst of the west coast beaches of Fuerteventura is situated below precipitous mountains and due to the force of the atlantic breakers is lvery different from the east coast beaches. Not advisible to swim here unless you are an extremely strong swimmer

We went there while our stay on Fuertaventura in Maro Jable.
This place is so awesome, that we call it back in our memories all over again.
To get there we had to rent old jeep wrangler - red one ...and without roof.
After 30 minutes of driving by very nice hills ...we were astonished by a scientic view .
We drove along all of the houses, there were only a few, on a rocky road (like in the moon) which wasnt easy at all.
We decided not to stop where all of tourists were stoping and drive along the beach just next to the huge rock by the beach ...then we stoped and left the car...
We were fighting with waves , than having some pleasures for ourselves ...as we were there completly alone...all time naked ....
And at the end of that story...... driving back that car on a sandy beach for about 800 m we have stocked in the sand!!!! Back wheels of our wrangler were about 1m deep in the sand. .. we were frightened to death becouse the flow was coming!
We tried to look for some help ...and with a bit of fortune there was a sun patrol toyota hilux driving in our direction (they only drive once a day!!!) They helped us to drive out from the sand..
After this adventure we decided not to drive on sand ever again, well definetely not without 4 wheel drive ;)
However, the sunset was so beautiful we just had to see it next day :) we rent megan cabrio and continue to drive on asphalt road. it was definetely worth it!

This is more about the walk to Cofete from Gran Valle but it gives another option for anyone wishing to visit the back of beyond. There is now a dedicated car park at the bottom of the valley (just past the lonely cemetery) and the path has been well sign-posted. From there it is about an hour to the Degollada – pleasant enough walk gradually rising until a short stiff climb to the ridge. Superb views of Cofete, Villa Winter and down the coast from the ridge although it could be a bit unpleasant on a windy day. As it was we had glorious weather with only a slight breeze. The path down the other side is not a problem – easy to follow, at times gravelly and steep but not dangerous. There is even a selection of rocks to use as a picnic table 2 or 3 minutes below the ridge –the lizards greatly enjoyed our crumbs and pieces of pear and the birds of prey were having a great time further up the mountain feeding on a goat which had slipped to its death. It was very sad to hear the plaintive cries of the kid left behind even higher up. From there it is an easy drop down to Cofete with a path going off to the right to Villa Winter. Cofete is possibly not worth a visit on its own but the café/restaurant is very welcome and from there it is another mile to the beach. Longer steeper climb back and pleased to get to the car in a couple of hours. About 10 miles all in but if you take your time it is a fantastic day out (easy enough for two 60ish year-olds!).
Whilst in the café we heard some Germans worrying about the drive back on the road. A lot of smaller hire cars had made the trip but by all accounts it was a little hairy at times. The only drawback is that if there is a problem you don’t have a leg to stand on (or a wheel) as it says very clearly that hire cars shouldn’t be taken off metalled roads.

Kids got sick in the car due to the windy roads. Steep and dirt roads, not a good combination. The bar was so basic that we decided not to eat there. The beaches look nice but honestly, not as beautiful as Corralejo beaches or el cotillo or even Jandia. We got there and decided to return right away.

It takes some time and nerves to get there but its 100% worth it. Golden, clean sand. Huge waves. Cristal clear water. Fabulous beach. But there are no facilities, shops, bars or shade, so bring plenty of water with you. Best beach in Canaries!
