“The reward of the pico de las zarza”
Reviewed May 22, 2014

well recommended walk.
Its a walk wih you can start at sealevel, or a bit up hille behind the barcelo hotels, you can drive up there by car or take a taxi to the aquatank.
The walk is long and can be found hard for some non ecxercised walkers. The wind is always apparent and can add to the resistance.
Earplugs or a windjack with cape are welcome at some piont.
Make sure you have enough water and food with you.
As you walk the views change not much, you can see what you left behind but it is not always clear wich mountain you are eventually gonna be climbing.
That fact is kind of nice, and gives you many rewards.
The biggest reward is at the end of the last twenty meters of the walk.
You can not imagine great it really is.
I admitt that i was euforic, it hits you right in the face, bamm.
After spending an hour or so on the top, we began to descent.
The descent is also not to undersetimate as you have the wind in your back and the roads are rocky and sandy, wich causes much instable walking conditions wich cause pain in the front of your shinbone, specific in the musculus tibialis anterior.
Best walk of the island...

“a long windy walk”
Reviewed January 16, 2014

It is not as hard as I expected, only very very windy in some places.
As a german hiking book is describing - the mountain is 812 m.
The view is nice - but I expected more.
For us it took less than 5 hours both ways.
Some goats were on the way but got scared immediately when they felt us around.
Leave the car down, next to the water tank (Tanque Agua) - u will find it after u pass Barcelo Jandia Playa Hotel. There are signs showing the way.
The last part of the way up on the mountain has some steps made of stones - the only part that was little bit difficult.
The way doesn't have any dangerous parts; only on top do not go too close to the other side of the mountain.
Have fun!!
Its a good exercise..
