“Another great Riu experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2007

We have just returned from our fourth stay at this lovely hotel.

Although I have written a previous review of this Hotel (November 2006), I thought it would be useful to report that the hotel just gets better!

The hotel is very well maintained, the rooms are beautiful with a separate living area, and the food in the restaurant is excellent and varied with regular themed evenings. Service from the friendly staff is excellent.

There are a large number of steps in the hotel and it may not be suitable for those with mobility problems.

We would strongly recommend this hotel for anyone (mainly couples) who want a relaxing holiday in a good location in an excellent hotel with high standards of service.

We stayed at this hotel booked through Sovereign Holidays at the end of August; previous posts having given us an accurate indication of what to expect. We had a lovely room in D block overlooking the sea; there was no noise from surrounding areas at the room. The room was kept very clean, though we did not get sweets and other extras mentioned by other posts though we did talk to some guests who did - no big issue but interesting. There was no turndown service as had been advertised in our brochure.
The food was very good in the buffet restaurant, and I would defy anyone not to be able to find something they really liked every night. Breakfasts were some of the best we have seen - down even to the fact they had a member of staff juicing fruits at a station which made the best ever wake up drinks. We were however disappointed with the service in the alternative (Grill)restaurant where each time we booked through reception (as you have to do) our booking was lost. The staff at the Grill seemed to have favoured customers (this was an issue throughout the hotel due to the dominance of some larger groups from another country which is the main business of the hotel) - service was poor and at one point a member of staff was down right rude to my husband though to be fair when we complained apologies were forthcoming very quickly.
There are plenty loungers around however there was a lot of pre booking by certain guests (sorry to say this was an issue with the German guests) who never used the loungers; worse still the hotel very nicely laid out the pool deck with 2 loungers and one umbrella per group each night, by morning many loungers had no umbrellas and other groups had several but to protect them had all their personal items pegged up in them. We were always able to find somewhere to sit but as there is no staff on duty had to manhandle heavy based umbrellas some distance several times; I think for a 4 star hotel there should be a little supervision of the pool deck.
As others have said do not go to this hotel for entertainment. However, we did discover that all the external acts that came in Abba Tribute Band, African Footprints, Jugglers etc were appearing at other hotels in the area on other nights as well, therefore it is unlikely you will get a different range at a different hotel. What is poor is the resident band - Sunset - both in terms of the sound they make and also the extent to which they mime (badly)
As others have said there are so many steps in this hotel, for us it was no issue it helped with the keep fit but if you have young children or are less mobile it would be an issue.
Hotel staff always address you as they pass (everyone without exception!!) reception service is variable - you need to speak with Carolina as she is the only one with a really good grasp of English; others try hard but if it is something a little tricky you need Carolina (rep confirmed he only works through her)
Small shop in reception is manned by a dragon - do not get in the wrong queue when the foreign papers arrive in at 1145!! We had a daily laugh as some poor person made the mistake each day- she was not over keen on the British guests for some reason!!

Jandia is a lovely resort and the beach very clean and good for families (we were two mid 50s and wished we had had kids with us so we could build a sandcastle as it was the best ever sand to do that on). We would recommend walking to Morro Jable and enjoying lunch there by the beach where there were great inexpensive restaurants serving lovely fish dishes for c8 euros. We also played a lot of minigolf up at the Hotel Faro Jandia (3 euro a game). The hotel did not look as good as ours though.

All in all, a good value holiday, hotel does not quite hit the 5* rating but is very good

My wife, my son and I went for holidays over there and I have to say "it was beautiful from the begining to the end"
We were warm welcomed by reception employees "Fran and Nidia" and offered champagne.
The reception staff was very proffesional at all time.
Then the room was excellent too, very big with beautiful view on the pool, jacuzzi and of course beach and the atlantic ocean - just superb. The bath in the bathroom was the biggest we ever had in any hotel. The accomodations staff was very professional too.
Then the restaurant staff was very efficient and professional especially "ALDO" what a guy. He knew exactly what pasta our son likes and our table was always ready for us no matter what.
I have to say that this was superb experience and definitely we will recommend this hotel to others.
I have to wright about a girl of the name of Nidia who was superb and nothing was too much trouble for her from organising a car for us which was probably difficult becouse of high season to sending my wife's mobile phone back to Ireland which we left behind. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU
Regards
Mariusz

We recently stayed at the Riu Palace for a week. As with most Riu hotels, it was very clean and the staff were very friendly..... good with the kids!.
We stayed on half board, the food was varied something for both adults and children. The beach is great, very sandy.
The outside of the hotel could do with a little work but overall its a great place to stay.

One thing to note, its an hour journey from the airport.

Enjoy!

I have just arrived back from the Riu Palace in Jandia on Fuerteventura and I have to say what a magnificent hotel it was. Everything from the friendliness of the staff to the facilities provided were fantastic!
The rooms were the biggest we have stayed in on the Canary Islands and the sea views were superb. They were scrupulously cleaned and checked each day and the bathrooms were large also and fully equipped. Little touches made it for us - fresh flowers in the room, chocolates and sweets left by the cleaner and even my wife's dressing gown was folded, tied and displayed in a beautiful manner.
The pool area was very clean and there was always a plentiful supply of sun beds, despite some of the German contingent reserving them at 6 am. The restaurant area by the pool was excellent and the service provided by the waiters was extremely efficient and cheerful - they were sooo pleasant and smiley.
The staff on reception (especially Caroline) were extremely helpful and were quite happy to spend time pointing us in the right direction.
The food was excellent and the choice was amazing. At the evening meal there was at least 3 different types of fish to choose from, plus 3 or 4 types of meat and always 2 or 3 vegetarian options. Salads were amazing, with the biggest and tastiest prawns and salmon! Again, the waiters and waitresses were superb. Nothing was too much trouble and again they were very smiley and ultra polite. Once the staff got to know your likes and dislikes, they anticipated your every whim.
The only down side was the number of steps there were to get you into town, which was fine going down, but a bit of a struggle coming back. The entertainment was OK but not brilliant - they could have done with a 'disco' or similar after about 10.30pm. But hey, there were loads of bars and stuff in town and we found the 'Rock Cafe' which had live music from about 9.30pm until the early hours and the drinks were cheap too.
As we were right on the beach we spent a good few days there and this too was fantastic. The sea was actually warmer than the pool!!
All in all, I would recommend this hotel to everyone, young and old, provided they did not mind the steps and would be quite happy, no, delighted to return there.

Very nice hotel! The design of the hotel is very different but really blends in well with the beautiful area.
The staff are very freindly and assist you when needed. The food is fantatstic, plenty for every taste. The entertainment was a liitle poor, but if you are happy with your own company you will be fine. There are many germans satying there, but my husband and I were so surprised with the amount of British there.
The rooms were fantastic the best Riu rooms we have stayed in. Very big with a seperate lounge area and a huge bath.
The only thing that may be a little negitive is the steps. If you are able you will be fine. I would not say it would be for families with prams or poeple who find it hard to walk.
You are right on the front next to the beach which is fab and a 5 min walk from shops and a few bars, but there is no need to leave the hotel if you are there for a relaxing time.
I would really recommend the hotel especailly if you are looking for a relaxing time and you want to be spolit. ENJOY!

The hotel was lovely and the food excellent however few choices for vegetarians - but this is not unusual and typical of Spanish hotels.
The weather was excellent, hot every day, but the winds do blow the sand around.
We were disapointed that although we had a sea view the sun did not come on to our balcony all week -may be this was due to the time of the year?
There were steps every where! Not for anyone with walking diffculites or breathing problems and certainly not suitable for anyone in a wheelchair as you will not get around at all.
The approach to the front of the hotel must have at least a hundred steps and no ramp.
The hotel is built on the side of a cliff and to get the rooms you have to go down groups of steps depending what level you are on. We obsevered many families with push chairs struggling
(there are lots of up and down steps even around the pool ) To get the beach - although there was a lift at one side of the hotel -there were still about forty steps to get further down onto the promoade and beach. We saw this as a way of burningoff the extra calories!
The room and service ,however made up for the mases of steps as this was beautiful and the service excellent.
Would recommend to those who are fit and healthy
One last point transfer to the hotel is lengthy, about 1 hour by taxi.
