I can only echo what everyone else on here has said! We've just come back from a short stay here and cannot fault the apartments at all - only minor complaint for us was that we found the beds a little uncomfortable - but they were ok! Everywhere was clean, pool area fantastic and never a problem getting a sunbed. Location wise we couldn't have chosen better - away from the rowdy Irish part (which is only a 10 min walk anyway) - but plenty of good quality bars & restaurants nearby to suit all tastes and budgets. The suckling pig and baby leg of lamb at Balcon de Maria is a must - a few mins down the road with sea views. Bobbys bistro is great for brekkie! Lovely little bar called Rumba (near Bobbys) is good for watching the footy in! And if you like your food in massive portions eat at Fat SAMs. Would definitely return back to Santa Ponsa and back to Surfing Playa!

Stayed here 13th to 25th August and had a great time. Never been to Santa Ponsa before but was a bit dubious after reading some reviews on here about it being a bit rowdy. Me and hubby and 17 year old son stayed here and found the place lovely and thankfully not in the Irish quarter where it was a bit rowdy and Blackpoolish! This place is in the quieter area of Santa Ponsa but near enough to bars/restaurants aplenty and only 10 minutes walk round the bay to the more busy and noisier bars and where most of the younger groups of lads and lassies stayed. Surfing Playa is basic but very clean with lovely staff and maids cleaned and changed bed linen/towels every other day throughout our stay, and toiletries were provided together with hairdryer in bathroom. The air con. was in full working order and an absolute god send at night. The bar/restaurant and pool areas were also kept spotless, pool cleaned and water samples taken at least twice daily. but it has to be said the cleaners start early morning and you can hear them wheeling their trollies around, and if not them the street cleaners and bin men are like an early morning alarm call!! Plenty of sunloungers/parasols available although we realised after 1st day that one side of pool is in the shade after lunch but that was welcome to be honest as it was very hot!!! There were signs everywhere about not reserving sunbeds with towels which wasn't a problem at all but was a bit busier 2nd week and some towels were removed by management. There were no kettles but again no probs, just boiled water in a pan and then arrived back in apartment one evening to find a brand new toaster-- I think a few people had complained they couldn't make toast in the microwave! We only had breakfast in our room anyway, we ate lunch and evening meal out every day trying different restaurants and bars, all of which were very good.
The beach was only a short stroll away and lovely and clean (buy your own parasol for about 5 euros and lay on towels-the cost adds up if you hire sunbeds under parasols daily). The smaller beach 5 minutes the other way is also nice and secluded with trees for shade if you need it, and a further 5 minute walk to a lovely walkway with gorgeous views across the bay leading down to the marina.
Like others have said before these apartments are ideal if you want to be away from the noise but near enough to stroll to the livelier ares which we did quite often. The only drawbacks were the pull out bed for our son (more suitable for younger people ) and no lifts so a bit of a haul up to 3rd floor with luggage on arrival but other than that I would definitely use these apartments again if visiting Santa Ponsa. Thank you to management and staff for a very enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: As long as you can manage the stairs 3rd and 4th floor have sea views, we were in block 5 room 353 o...

I can only second what most people have said about these apartments. They are a real gem of a find nestled in a quiet spot but convenient for the beach , bars and restaurants but far away from the noise. One bed apartments spacious enough for three adults but think that four adults would maybe find it a bit of a squeeze. Very very clean great pool area again very clean and likewise the bar area where the bar snacks were very cheap and tasty. The staff at the pool bar are so friendly. Definetly worth visiting the small beach 3 mins walk from the rear of the apartments and the marina a further 2 minutes walk also nice for a quiet drink or lunch. Definetly would return to surfing playa and to santa ponsa.

Ideal for a family like us wanting to be out of the way a little, but still close enough to stroll to a more livelier area.

Nothing bad to say about surfing playa. We did our homework regards location. These apartments are situated in the quieter end of town. Ideal.

Apartments are well equipped and clean although the beds weren't the most comfortable! Acceptable though.

We booked through jet2holidays and were given an apartment with a great view (room 733). My parents also booked with jet2 and were also given a nice view just below us in block 7. Whether that's coincidence or not I'm not sure.

Pool is ideal and the bar is fine; ate there many times during our ten night stay.

Excellent little sleepy bar to mention. Out of the front door, left down the road about 200yards on the right - santa ponsa cafeteria it's called. Lovely German fellow owns it - large spirit measures! €1.80 for a large estrella and €2.50 for a large wine. A great place to chill out. Free wifi too!

Don't forget the free wifi around Surfing Playa pool. A bit slow but does the job.

An Italian restaurant called Nonna Dina is definitely worth a visit, not far away. Outstanding Italian food. Likewise, for big portions fat sams is a must.

The small Spanish beach that reviews mention is a must. Probably the jewel in the crown for SP. 3 min walk out the back of the apartments.

Would definitely return. Go back tomorrow if I could!

We stayed here for 11 nights at the end of July last year 2012, a family of 2 adults and a 2 year old child.

A couple of weeks before we left we emailed the apartments at info@surfingplaya.com telling them when we were arriving and asking if we would be able to have a pool view room and if a cot would be in the room as we were arriving late at night with a 2 year old, we did not receive a reply from them.

When we arrived at the hotel it was at about 11:30pm there were 2 men on reception, both were extremely welcoming and friendly. After booking us in and giving us directions to our room I said we had emailed asking for a cot to be in the room but the man left on reception said he did not know if there would be one and if there was not one there he couldn’t do anything about it, so off we went to the apartment feeling a little disappointed.

We were given a ground floor apartment on the outside of the building which was just OK and almost adequate for a self catering holiday. About three metres from the balcony was a path which other guests had to use to get to either the pool area or when leaving the hotel, so there was quite a bit of guest traffic almost constantly passing by and most of them could not help themselves from staring in to our apartment when walking past. We felt very much on display when eating meals on the balcony and there was absolutely no privacy at all unless you kept the curtains closed at all times when in the apartment.

The balcony only had a one foot high brick wall which was very easy for a small child to climb over - pretty dangerous as it did have a slightly longer drop on the other side. Our view for our stay was of bushes, a side wall of a house or, if you tried look down in the direction of the sea, you could see the bins.

The decor in the apartment could do with updating as it did look a bit shabby, from the rusty light fittings, the suspended ceiling that was poorly installed and the rotten window frame next to where you took a shower ( please see pictures). Also right outside the window where you took a shower was a path that other quests in our block had to walk on to access their apartment so there was an intrusion of your privacy here as well.

The apartments were clean but a lot of the furniture and surfaces were sticky to touch and could do with a good wash with soapy water rather than a quick clean and polish, we did get clean towels almost every day and the cleaners worked extremely hard in the amount of time they had to clean the apartment, our cleaner Dory I think her name was, was an absolute star and a credit to the hotel but her supervisor who went around shouting on the cleaners from 8am every morning was very annoying and obnoxious, when we said hello to her she chose to ignore us.

The pool area of this hotel was absolutely fantastic and was almost like having your own private pool from 9am to 11am every morning and again in the evening, even when the pool got busy there were always sun beds available no matter what time of day you went round to the pool. The only down side to the pool was that there are no lifeguards at all and some irresponsible families would just leave their kids to run riot. There were no groups of young people staying here during our visit; it was mostly families with young children so there was no problem with noise or disruptive behaviour at night.

Santa Ponsa itself was very disappointing and extremely dirty. The main beach (we only visited a couple of times during our stay) we labelled it fag end beach and no matter where we set our towels down space was very limited, the one called little beach is very little and also very popular with people looking to escape from fag end beach, there was a small play park next to little beach but it’s not very well designed and has a lot of trip hazards in it, not ideal for kids who like to run about between the different play equipment.

We didn’t go with high expectations but for £1500 for 11 nights for 2 adults and a child we did expect a bit better than what we actually received. We still made the most of our holiday and had a great time but we would not stay in this hotel or Santa Ponsa again. We believe that if we’d had pool view apartment as we had requested we would have had a completely different experience from the one we’ve reviewed.

Room Tip: Book a room else where as you can not guarantee what room you will get in the Surfing Playa
