Plazamar Serenity Resort
Ranked #15 of 35 Hotels in Santa Ponsa

We booked this hotel through First Choice, a bargain £195 package holiday, so you can imagine we went in expecting pretty standard/basic accomodation. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find the hotel in good repair and very clean. There were 4 of us and we stayed in a studio apartment, which came very well equipped - down to a colander and washing up liquid. The maid came pretty much every day, fresh towels and bed sheets at least twice during our week stay. We didn't pay out for air con, although it did seem to come on every night.

We ate at the bar a few times, the food is on par with the local restaurants price wise, a bowl of chips was 2 euros and was a generous portion. We enjoyed the pizzas also, but they definitely weren't home cooked and were 8 euros each. The drinks are a bit steep, for a small coke I paid almost 2 euros. The 12 euro all inclusive drink wristband would definitely be a good investment if you plan on drinking out of the bar all day!

The staff at the complex were lovely, and we couldn't fault them. Adele is great and provides great evening entertainment - we enjoyed the bingo every night, and the flamenco dancing was brilliant. The bar staff were humourous, and overall everyone was more than happy to help.

The beach is roughly a 5/10 minute walk away, there are many mini markets, bars and restaurants in close proximity and I would definitely recommend dinner at Fat Sams.

Overall we had a great time, and I would certainly return!

This was our 8th visit to Santa Ponsa, 1st visit to Plazamar. We are just back from a fantastic 2 weeks holiday at the Plazamar, the rooms are basic but very clean. Cleaned 4 times per week. Entertainment good and kids club was fantastic for our children, Adele is fabulous with the kids. Everyone was very friendly, the pool area was always clean and there was always plenty of sunbeds. Excellent location for walking to and from the beach and local shops. I would also recommend the all inclusive drinks/ice cream if you have small children. We experienced a few noises at night just what you expect on holiday, nothing major.

Just returned from a week,s holiday at Plazamar(20/9/11) and having read all the previous reviews we were a wee bit apprehensive. We booked self catering because we prefer to dine out most of the time so i can,t comment on the food. But i have to say we found the staff very friendly, the rooms were always clean and regular towel changes.I didn,t hear any loud music being played and we were at the pool area every day.The location is excellent ,it's within easy walking distance to the beach ,restaraunts, pubs etc.but very quiet at night.
Although the pool area is quite small, there were plenty sunbeds and plenty room.
Santa Ponsa has something for everyone.Various pubs with live music, some Irish duos ,single artists, karaoke bars and restaurants to suit every taste.
Eating out is quite expensive you can expect to pay over 20euros a head in most places.
Fat Sams has good food, but very cramped. There are 2 restaurants by the bay,one called Mason Del Ray which we tried.Location is excellent, but, food is average and well over priced. For 2 drinks ,2 Prawn cocktails (much lettuce very little prawns or sauce)2 meals and 2 small ice creams we were charged 65 euros.
If you like Indian food there are 2 good ones there. Krishna is nice, but The Himalaya is much
better. There are the usual Macdonalds and Pizza places etc.
Drinks are not cheap either , vodka and coke ranges from 4 - 6 euros.I think you can get fairly cheap beer ,but were not beer drinkers.
But don't let the prices put you off we had a great time. Were both over 60 and always finished our night at the Jaggy Thistle.Drinks are reasonably priced and it's open til 4 o;clock

DONT GO THERE IF:

a) You want some peace and quiet (as advertised)

b) You dont want loud music blarring around the pool and bar area from outside speakers (same CD from 10.00am until 1.00am on repeat!!) you can plainly hear this from your room too.

c) 24/7 drinkers and yobs ( jumping in the pool one morning at 3.30am.) The staff ignored the behaviour and allowed it.

d) If you want any sleep (or at least some)

e) You dont want to see women of 50/60 falling down tiled stairs in the family bar area so drunk they cant stand up

f) Or a delighful lady taking down her knickers (again in the family bar area) and urinating outside a ground floor apartment (uurrgghh) right on someones front step.

g) You dont want adjoining doors through the ground floor apartments into next door and walls so thin you have no choice but to stay awake until they decide to pass out.(hopefully before sunrise)

h) Being shouted at in the day over the loud speakers around the pool by a very loud compere (who didnt need a mic) and again at night trying to get people from their balconys and down in the bar

i) The cleaners shouting at the top of their voices from 7.00am also crashing and banging and pulling mop buckets across tiled floors (carry them!)

Unfortunately all the above is genuinely true of our stay and we would never return. We both have very noisy jobs and went there as it was advertised as quiet and peaceful. This is not true and i feel so sorry for the couples who were there with small children. I saw one young dad walking off the complex at 1.30am trying to settle off his toddler as the noise was so bad.

Booked really cheaply through Traveljunky in Oct so bear that in mind when deciding. Transfer took hours not 45mins as stated. Room a bit musty but handlable. Staff fine, entertainment non-existent. Every morning we were woken to an alarm call of a song of a chicken squawking repeatedly and so loudly. After three mornings of this I was ready to rip the outside speaker from its fixing and jump on it. This could rival water torture and was completely un-necessary!

Room Tip: As far away from the pool area as possible!

Nice place to stay, bit quiet for us, but it is a family hotel. No problems except for the keys stop working when put next to a mobile phone.
