I stayed at this hotel mid August 2013 for a week with my friend. We are 2 young girls in our mid twenties. This was my second visit to this hotel and was excited to return.

Upon arrival, not much had changed from my previous visit in 2012. Great!

Great selection of buffet food, always something to eat, hot or cold - even for the fussiest of eaters. Great staff in restaurant, although sometimes there were too many people in there for the service to keep up. Food was changed and renewed regularly, even if trays of food weren't finished.

Go for all inclusive as this will save you money on the drinks. They use Coca Cola and Fanta none of this 'sparkling orange' , and water is included. Local spirits included and cocktails from the menu too - great value for money.

The sunbed queue is an issue, we got up early to secure a good poolside location. If you are not bothered but just want a base there are beds left at 8:30am (when the doors open to the pool area), but people do queue early - and you can't blame them. There are not many parasols and if you want to keep an eye on your children you want to be close to the pool. We didn't want or need either, but due to the large amount of teenagers in the hotel who jump in, run around, splash you and swear, we wanted to pick our spot so the holiday could be as relaxing as possible. On the first day I had to speak to one group who were constantly splashing us. That would be the only downfall, those with teenagers who are being loud don't appear to see it as their duty to ask their own child to calm down... If you cannot get near the pool and do have younger children the lifeguard is great and will speak to you if he feels there is a problem.

The hotel is only a 2 minute walk from the beach, and on days we didn't want to wake up early, we enjoyed heading down there. 4 euros 50 for a sunbed wasn't too bad at all, its just frustrating to go far from the hotel when you have paid for all inclusive.

There are a variety of shops, restaurants and bars along and up from the strip. We never saw any bother and enjoyed going out a few times feeling safe and being close to 'home.'

All inclusive does end on 3pm of your last day, with checkout at midday. If you have a late flight I would advise booking a late check out room until 6pm at the time of booking to guarantee availability. Also there is a supermarket 2 minutes away from the hotel and for 1 euro you can buy a large 2l bottle of water, which will see you through until your departure time I am sure.

Entertainment team as ever do a fantastic job - although if people don't want to join in I don't appreciate them being forced, or watching people get pushed of their sunbeds into the pool to join in with water dancing. I loved all the activities, but some people have medical conditions etc. and have reasons they can't join in - I think the entertainment team need to show a little more respect for that. Rosh is brilliant with the children.

This is a good 3* hotel with a great atmosphere, helpful staff, a variety of food and drink and great location. Rooms are dated and could do with being cleaned as well as refreshed (towels changed and beds made). I would return with a family group.

We stayed at the Hotel Rey Don Jaime from 20th August 2013 to 27th August 2013. Upon arrival at 8pm Reception showed us straight to the dining room for our evening meal and checked us in afterwards. The hotel was clean, food excellent, the staff friendly, Max and Rosh and the team put on fantastic entertainment. The Thompson rep's were very helpful and friendly. We did not have a problem getting sunbeds as the terrace did not open until 8.30am, a very fair system. We had a fantastic holiday and would deffinately return, our daughter was safe and well occupied. On departure day we had our room until 6pm as we had prebooked this, we were collected at 5.30pm, so worked out really well.

We got a last minute deal for the Rey Don Jaime from 22nd to 29th August. On arrival, check in was quick and friendly, and everything was explained about room facilities and the AI package. Must say that the food on offer was probably the best we have had on an AI basis. Great choice and very good quality. The bedrooms are basic but fine and we both had 7 nights of great sleeping.
We do not normally go on high season, so the BUT is in respect of the pool area. Apparently people started to queue at 6.45am to book loungers, so when we came to the poolside at 8.30am every space was taken, but we eventually found a space. Crammed in like sardines, with old loungers and a shortage of parasols. We did not take part in the lounger chase but were happy to sit in the very large pool bar area.
A big thanks to Sam " the Tiger Princess" our Thomsons rep who was very attentive and friendly.
A caution, not about the hotel, but about the resort. Pickpocketing by organised gangs of ladies is rife. Be Careful.

Room Tip: We were in room 324, far enough away from the night entertainment if you wanted a quiet nightcap on...

We arrived at the Hotel Rey Don Jaime after a 7 night cruise around the med. I had previously been to Santa Ponsa and remembered it as a family resort and nice sandy beach. First impression of the hotel was ok, and cleanliness was good. But parts were a bit tatty ie, furnishings around reception. We were given a room that overlooked the pool which also had a sea view, this was lovely as it also had a double balcony (room 378). Room was adequate but couldn't believe you had to pay for fridge and television. The restaurant was more like a canteen with the usual self service buffet food available. No drinks available as I know as we were never asked if we wanted any. As we were only half board we just had a basic breakfast and dinner, pretty much just to tide us over. As for Santa Ponsa itself, this had changed since my last visit. The beach front was very nice with some bars and restaurants but as soon as you walked up towards the centre it got a bit rough. At times seemed to be the overspill from nearby Magaluf. All in all this hotel is a average 3* which I would say suitable for young families. If your looking for luxury look elsewhere.

Room Tip: Room 378 best room in hotel so the manager had told us on arrival,

I have to say, this has got to be the best hotel we have stayed in in all the years we have been coming to Majorca. Great atmosphere and entertainment. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Our holiday rep, Nikki, couldn't have been more helpful, she had so much local knowledge and really went the extra mile. A credit to the hotel and the company she works for (Thompson) as she took so much pride in her job. During my stay I witnessed guests being extremely rude towards the reps and quite frankly I cannot believe the disgusting attitudes of some people, the reps could not have been more helpful and understanding and if these people bothered to do their research (as I did) then they would have known the hotel rules regarding all inclusive and perhaps budgeted for their last few hours. I take my hat off to the reps that dealt with this particular guest as the way they were spoken to was vile, it was dealt with in a professional manner and to be honest, if it was me being spoken to like that, I would have lost my rag. All round the best holiday experience we have had so far. Thanks.

We a family of 4 booked 7 nights 17-24 aug, on arrival at 07.15 we were greeted by friendly reception staff who checked us in quickly, we went to our room which was dated and basic, however it was clean (beds not very comfortable). Due to the night flight we decided to have some sleep so missed breakfast, we had snacks from the snack bar which were ok and filled a gap (beware they won't serve you until the exact time, but they will close 5 or 10 minutes earlier!)

The pool area is busy and sun loungers are few and far between, we always were lucky to get them without being up early to put towels on!

The first evening meal in the restaurant was really good, with plenty of choice so we were pleased with that and looked forward to more meals like that, then the second nights meal was disappointing and went downhill, the food was luke warm and tasteless, puddings were nice.

The cleaners came in daily to make the beds, empty the bins and change the towels. The floor was never swept nor the bed sheets changed.
The entertainment was good and kept everyone entertained.

Beware that all inclusive finishes at 3pm on your departure day, you do get an evening meal but no drinks and they are quick to cut your wrist band off.
If you have late flights you need to be out your room by 12 noon, there are courtesy rooms available to book for 15 minute slots for showers, however book well in advance or pay 50 euros to keep your room for an extra 6 hours.

We paid for 7 nights all inclusive however only had 6 nights (according to the Thomson rep its the hotel policy to not let people check in before 3 pm or it is classed as a day earlier) we slept Saturday - Thursday nights had to be out the room by noon on the Friday and then picked up at 01.30 Saturday morning to go to the airport.

The staff work hard, long hours in the heat - it would be nice if they could smile or even acknowledge you though!

The hotel is in an excellent location to explore Santa ponsa so don't stay at the hotel all day everyday!

Room Tip: Don't ask for a low floor as we did, we were given room 192 which overlooked the air conditionin...

Just home from the Rey Don Jaime. The hotel itself is pleasant and the staff are friendly. It is definitely a hotel for families. My 9 year old son had a fabulous time and made plenty friends whilst he was there. The hotel is in a great location just a 5 minute stroll to the beautiful beach where you can hire peddle boats (15euro for 1 hour), or rent a sun lounger/parasol by the sea (also 15euros). The weather was fabulous.

Being August, we expected the hotel to be very busy, which it was, and there were plenty of people moaning about the lack of sunbeds or having to queue for them in a morning. We didn't waste our holiday for the sake of a sun lounger, we went out and about in the morning and returned at lunch. There was always a bed free or people would give up one of theirs for us at this time of day, no problem.

We went all inclusive and I have to say that we were more than happy with the range of food on offer in the restaurant. Breakfast which is served from 8 till 10, (great if you want a lie in) is varied and delicious. If you miss breakfast fear not - there are snacks available by the outside pool bar from 1030 till lunch. Lunch and dinner, again were fabulous. In the week we were there I didn't eat the same thing twice. There were themed nights, Italian, Indian and there were even roast dinners available!! The deserts were good too - I have definitely put a few pounds on over the week. The restaurant staff work very hard to make meal times an experience.

The evenings are never dull at the Rey, thanks to the entertainment team. Each evening starts with a quiz with prize, followed by a presentation for the children who have taken part in the Mallorca Monsters kids club activities during the day. After that its Bingo Bongo presented by the star entertainer of the hotel, Max - this guy is brilliant at his job an absolute star. Following this there is usually an act on. We were entertained by singers and stand up. Brilliant. The only downside was that there were so many people at the hotel, there were a couple of times we had nowhere to sit outside to see the entertainment, but we just found chairs and squished in!!

Read a review on here about only 2 drinks being served per person at the bar, this is to keep the queue moving, not because they are mean!!

At night outside the hotel, it feels safe. It is busy until around 10pm then it quietens off, the 'lively' bars are a 15 minute walk away from the hotel meaning it is quiet outside the hotel at night. Overall we had a great holiday. Food and drink varied and plentiful, decent rooms, comfy beds (aircon noisy), great location, nice staff.

If you get chance to see the pirates show then go see it, fabulous. The theatre is quit small so you get a great view even in the cheaper seats. The food they serve is a small portion so make sure your not starved when you get there.

Overall we had a lovely holiday and are considering a return visit next year.
