“Excellent all round”
Reviewed August 28, 2013 via mobile

I have to say, this has got to be the best hotel we have stayed in in all the years we have been coming to Majorca. Great atmosphere and entertainment. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Our holiday rep, Nikki, couldn't have been more helpful, she had so much local knowledge and really went the extra mile. A credit to the hotel and the company she works for (Thompson) as she took so much pride in her job. During my stay I witnessed guests being extremely rude towards the reps and quite frankly I cannot believe the disgusting attitudes of some people, the reps could not have been more helpful and understanding and if these people bothered to do their research (as I did) then they would have known the hotel rules regarding all inclusive and perhaps budgeted for their last few hours. I take my hat off to the reps that dealt with this particular guest as the way they were spoken to was vile, it was dealt with in a professional manner and to be honest, if it was me being spoken to like that, I would have lost my rag. All round the best holiday experience we have had so far. Thanks.

We a family of 4 booked 7 nights 17-24 aug, on arrival at 07.15 we were greeted by friendly reception staff who checked us in quickly, we went to our room which was dated and basic, however it was clean (beds not very comfortable). Due to the night flight we decided to have some sleep so missed breakfast, we had snacks from the snack bar which were ok and filled a gap (beware they won't serve you until the exact time, but they will close 5 or 10 minutes earlier!)

The pool area is busy and sun loungers are few and far between, we always were lucky to get them without being up early to put towels on!

The first evening meal in the restaurant was really good, with plenty of choice so we were pleased with that and looked forward to more meals like that, then the second nights meal was disappointing and went downhill, the food was luke warm and tasteless, puddings were nice.

The cleaners came in daily to make the beds, empty the bins and change the towels. The floor was never swept nor the bed sheets changed.
The entertainment was good and kept everyone entertained.

Beware that all inclusive finishes at 3pm on your departure day, you do get an evening meal but no drinks and they are quick to cut your wrist band off.
If you have late flights you need to be out your room by 12 noon, there are courtesy rooms available to book for 15 minute slots for showers, however book well in advance or pay 50 euros to keep your room for an extra 6 hours.

We paid for 7 nights all inclusive however only had 6 nights (according to the Thomson rep its the hotel policy to not let people check in before 3 pm or it is classed as a day earlier) we slept Saturday - Thursday nights had to be out the room by noon on the Friday and then picked up at 01.30 Saturday morning to go to the airport.

The staff work hard, long hours in the heat - it would be nice if they could smile or even acknowledge you though!

The hotel is in an excellent location to explore Santa ponsa so don't stay at the hotel all day everyday!

Room Tip: Don't ask for a low floor as we did, we were given room 192 which overlooked the air conditionin...

Just home from the Rey Don Jaime. The hotel itself is pleasant and the staff are friendly. It is definitely a hotel for families. My 9 year old son had a fabulous time and made plenty friends whilst he was there. The hotel is in a great location just a 5 minute stroll to the beautiful beach where you can hire peddle boats (15euro for 1 hour), or rent a sun lounger/parasol by the sea (also 15euros). The weather was fabulous.

Being August, we expected the hotel to be very busy, which it was, and there were plenty of people moaning about the lack of sunbeds or having to queue for them in a morning. We didn't waste our holiday for the sake of a sun lounger, we went out and about in the morning and returned at lunch. There was always a bed free or people would give up one of theirs for us at this time of day, no problem.

We went all inclusive and I have to say that we were more than happy with the range of food on offer in the restaurant. Breakfast which is served from 8 till 10, (great if you want a lie in) is varied and delicious. If you miss breakfast fear not - there are snacks available by the outside pool bar from 1030 till lunch. Lunch and dinner, again were fabulous. In the week we were there I didn't eat the same thing twice. There were themed nights, Italian, Indian and there were even roast dinners available!! The deserts were good too - I have definitely put a few pounds on over the week. The restaurant staff work very hard to make meal times an experience.

The evenings are never dull at the Rey, thanks to the entertainment team. Each evening starts with a quiz with prize, followed by a presentation for the children who have taken part in the Mallorca Monsters kids club activities during the day. After that its Bingo Bongo presented by the star entertainer of the hotel, Max - this guy is brilliant at his job an absolute star. Following this there is usually an act on. We were entertained by singers and stand up. Brilliant. The only downside was that there were so many people at the hotel, there were a couple of times we had nowhere to sit outside to see the entertainment, but we just found chairs and squished in!!

Read a review on here about only 2 drinks being served per person at the bar, this is to keep the queue moving, not because they are mean!!

At night outside the hotel, it feels safe. It is busy until around 10pm then it quietens off, the 'lively' bars are a 15 minute walk away from the hotel meaning it is quiet outside the hotel at night. Overall we had a great holiday. Food and drink varied and plentiful, decent rooms, comfy beds (aircon noisy), great location, nice staff.

If you get chance to see the pirates show then go see it, fabulous. The theatre is quit small so you get a great view even in the cheaper seats. The food they serve is a small portion so make sure your not starved when you get there.

Overall we had a lovely holiday and are considering a return visit next year.

Travelled as a family with a 15 year old.

Read reviews before we left and some things I'd like to clarify are:

You can get more than 2 drinks at a time from the bar - they reserve the right to limit you to 2, but we had no issue ordering up to 5. Also, they do serve in plastic glasses in the day, but it's hit & miss in the evening - however, if you want a proper glass at night, just ask. We always got one when we asked. Drinks can vary massively in strength - stay aware & you can always water down with lemonade!

Entertainment is great for younger families. We did enjoy it to a point, but as a family with a 15 year old we did find it lame at times. That is not to say that Max is not awesome - he is - he is so full of energy, I wished I had younger kids to enjoy the entertainment to its full potential! Thought the 'pro' shows were a bit rubbish. What you'd expect for Spain really.

Food is ok. My fussy husband found something to eat every day. I got sick of mush. And lukewarm food. But, you get what you pay for! And it was very good value. I didn't starve - I put on 4 pounds!!

Sun loungers are an issue early morning in high season. When we were leaving a few days ago though, there were loungers available all day. The queuing at 7/8 just made us smile. As others have mentioned, the beach is 2 minutes away and in my opinion far nicer.

Rooms are quite tired looking & we had some issues, but maintenance resolved problems quickly. Once again, you get what you pay for - it's a 3 star hotel - they make it perfect and the prices will rocket!

Hotel staff were overall brilliant. Yes, some staff are a bit miserable looking, but hey, they are working 12/13/14 hour shifts serving drunk Brits who can't be bothered to learn a word of Spanish & they're hot & bothered - you can't expect these guys to smile all the time! They were never rude and the service was always quick.

Thomson reps seemed very helpful, though we didn't need to try them out. Very friendly in any case.

If you need extra key cards, ask. We had 4 for a family of 3 at one point!

Be aware: Santa Ponsa is a lovely resort - don't miss out on what it has to offer by staying in the hotel 24/7

Room Tip: A view over the road is best

Grandparents, parent and 5 kids all had a wonderful time at this super hotel. The animation staff are exceptional. Good food, clean rooms and all the facilities.

However, we were leaving the hotel at 20.15 and as we were all inclusive we were able to take our dinner but we were not allowed any drinks with the dinner.....not even water.

We had no Euros left and the children with us were gasping. The people on a nearby table had half a bottle of water left and asked if we would like it...our grandson went to get it from their table but on his return to our table the barman rushed out from behind the bar and took it from him saying we were not allowed any water unless we purchased it 'NOT EVEN A HALF OF AN ALREADY OPENED BOTTLE' . Absolutely disgusting behaviour which soured an otherwise superb experience. This was our second visit to this hotel and sadly we feel it will be our last.

Having stayed in Santa Ponsa many times before, this was the first time we have stayed at the Rey Don Jamie, the holiday was only booked a week before we travelled.

On arrival we were slightly disappointed at the reception area, the sofas looked tatty, when we were given our rooms again a bit disappointment, due again to a worn appearance and the size, we had two rooms, one for two adults and one for three adults, both rooms were the same size, which made it cramped for three.

The restaurant was really busy, but the food was good. After the first night we discovered a separate section to eat, this was quieter, which was much better.

We never had a sun bed at the pool in the morning, as people were setting their alarms and queuing early in the morning, but we always got a sun bed later in the afternoon. The entertainment staff worked really hard with all ages.

Once we got used to the hotel we had a great time, its a lovely hotel, food was good, cleanliness of the rooms was good, excellent position. The only down fall is, it is dated and could do with a revamp, having said this I would return to the hotel again in the future.

Room Tip: Rooms above the entrance to the hotel have the best view, ask for a high floor.
