We stayed here a couple of years ago and wrote a report saying the hotel was tired, but because it has spectacular views we decided to go for another visit. The views of course are still the best in Santa Ponsa, the hotel has not changed at all. The rooms are still very tired with cracked floor tiles, bathrooms that have missing tiles and warped doors, still no fridges in the rooms, still no tea/coffee making facilities, still very very poor entertainment at night and still got a very graphic porn channel on the TV which they don't tell you about (so be careful if you kids are channel hopping)
The biggest improvement is the dining area, it has been revamped and the standard of food has greatly improved.

But once again it is a trade off of the negative points to the spectacular views from every room over the bay of santa ponsa and the bay of paguera

I still feel that this could be a good 4 * hotel if Do'r hotels would spend some money on the rooms

I have read what other reviewers have said about the Punta Del Mar, and to be fair they are all correct in their own way.

The Punta Del Mar is a reasonable 3 Star Spanish Hotel, in a really good location.

Rooms: Really Clean, No problems with Towels or Linen and views excellent. TV available if you have to watch TV!

Food: Pretty much what we expected, standard 3 star buffet style, You'll never go hungry. Our advice is that if you are at the Punta for longer than a week, you may get bored of the food and have to venturing out. Overall OK

Drinks/Bar/Entertainment: We deduced that as it was early season that the entertainment was dull. Drinks were expensive, but only getting 1.2 euros to £, so this was the main reason.

Santa Ponsa: Probably would not return, although might seem odd, we prefer the far end of Palma Nova, as there is a better selection of better cafe Bars etc, Santa Ponsa not endowed with Bars that I would like to spend any time in.

Overall: A nice week, which was great value we only paid £185/week half board inc flights (Direct Holidays). Had we paid £350 (Brochure) we would have been very upset. We hired a car from Hertz.com from the airport for £70/week all in, so didn't need bus transfers at £20 each (Much more civilised in any case).

The Punta Del Mar is OK, but just that.

Returned last week from a week's holiday at the Punta del Mar - our first visit to Mallorca- enjoyed every minute (except the queues at Palma airport on our return!).

Our room was ready on arrival and, like all those at this hotel, had fantastic sea views. The room and bathroom were clean, spacious and all furnishings and fittings in good condition.

We were on half-board and never had a problem finding something to our liking at either breakfast or dinner - the choice at both was excellent. Only minor critcism - fish on a heated buffet is always too dry. The dining room staff were all friendly and helpful - tables were cleared and relaid promptly.

Previous reviews have commented on the tiles around the pools being very slippy. The management have obviously taken note and whilst we were there artificial turf was laid round the lower pool. Don't know if they intended to do the same round upper pool or not but it would seem a good idea.

Evening entertainment is not really our scene so it is difficult for us to comment. However, whilst we were there dancing, karaoke, bingo and a quiz were all on offer.

We liked the location of the hotel as it was only 5 minutes walk to a variety of shops, bars and restaurants with many more only 10-15 mins. away in centre of Santa Ponsa - particularly liked Alt Wien restaurant opposite main bus stops in centre.

We took advantage of the cheap early season offer on car hire for 3 days and toured much of the island. The mountain area on the west coast is particularly spectacular. Other days were spent walking and using the local buses (cheap and reliable).

We will definitely return to Mallorca and would be more than happy to return to the Punta del Mar hotel.

We travelled over Easter for a week the weather was poor for the weekend but picked up in the week, the hotel is nice a bit dated but clean, views spectacular, food good, carvery every night, nice bottle of vino with your evening meal 7 euro.

Entertainment was poor but we did go early season,You can hire your tv in your room for 2 euro a day however please if you have kids dont bother one of the channels has hard core porn on it so if you have little ones I wouldnt bother.

We hired a car down the road form the hotel for a week and seen a lot of the island, one thing to bare in mind the prices are sky high,in the hotel and the resort, they sell this little bottle of Magners for 3.80 euro and fill your glass up with ice so it looks big it works out at nearly £7.00 a pint also the local bars are expensive,I wont be going back to anywhere in the Euro zone now,not until they stop ripping off tourists and everyone will feel the same, maybe next year when the bookings are down and they will be they, might start to listen.

We stayed at the hotel d'or punta del mar over the second week in easter and had a great time. The weather was excellent given the time of year. Every room has a view of the sea/bay and have good seating area outside the rooms. The rooms are very well cleaned on a daily basis with new towels every day and bed linen every other day. Every room has a safe to hire if you wish. The food is the best i have had for some time with plenty of variety as a buffet method and there is also a carvery every night.as well. There is a good selection of drinks but prices are similar to the bar downstairs.Breakfeast is also as very good. The waters and waitresses in the dinning room are very helpfull and good in many languages. There are two good size pools outside as well as a baby pool and a indoor pool. The outdoor pools where very cold due to the time of the year. On a slightly negative point the main bar man in on the ground floor bar has no charisma whatsoever, and we thought the drinks where on the expensive side. ( a pint of beer was 2.90 euro's with shorts similar). Go into the bars down the street and they are better priced, but saying that the low value of the euro has had a bearing on the cost of drinks. The entertainment at night was average and there was no kid's club. (the hotel was adults only we where told up to recently. The reception area is good with plesent staff and fantastic views over the sea with panoramic windows. You can also hire a remote control for the TV which has sky etc for 2 euro's a day. plus a refundable deposit for the remote.Overall an excellent holiday was had by our family at this hotel

My partner and i have just returned from our holidays at the Punta Del Mar Hotel and i have to say i loved it! The day we arrived we were able to check in and get into our room straight away. The room was lovely and very clean. The views were amazing also.
The room was cleaned everyday and the towels changed when we wanted them changing. We have no complaints with the hotel at all it was lovely, clean and warm.

The weather was not brilliant but it was sunny and we expected this with it being March. We were able to have a couple of days of sunbathing when the wind died down.

The food was lovely and there was enough to go up and get several different dishes. There was plenty of fish dishes for the vegetarians out there! The staff were lovely and friendly in the hotel and very helpful.

Because it was too cold to go into the outdoor pool we spent a couple of hours a day in the indoor pool which was lovely and warm.

Town was a 15 minute walk, but with many places still being closed we decided not to go into town at night. We did go out for a meal one night and we had several choices of where to eat without going too far from the hotel.

The evening entertainment wasn't brilliant in the hotel but it was lovely to see the kids enjoying themselves and joining in on the games and it made us laugh when the singer came and couldn't sing!

There were people from all over Europe staying at the hotel mainly young couples and families. Everyone was friendly but on the last day we went down to breakfast and found it full of elderly people looking miserable and annoyed as we all carried on with our morning routine. We were glad we were leaving early the next morning at this point.

We have decided that we would love to return to the hotel and i am even trying to persuade friends to join us and have informed my family they should go.

We are a couple of 25-28 years old.

Arrived on the 13th March 2008. We checked in at midday, unfortunately room wasn't ready but not a prob as we got to check out the hotel & was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness & the amazing views. After an hour or so our room was ready and was much to our expectations. No problems with bedding, towels etc but was no tea/coffee facilities so we would advise to take a travel kettle etc. View from our room (115) was fantastic but we think that all rooms had a good view too. Also no fridge which we think is where they get you by having to purchase drinks from them. We did ask for ice (for fruit juices etc from local supermarket) & they didn't seem happy about asking them for this!! The outdoor swimming pool was too cold (as we expected) so we tried the indoor pool which was strangely very hot like a bath. We found the food to be adequate, plenty of choice & also a different carvery every night. Entertainment not that great but it was in low season. We ventured as far as Palma one day on the local bus (102) was the quickest there taking only 45 mins & only cost 5.20e return p.p. Weather was surprisingly hot (got burn't on 1st day), Town centre was only a 10 min walk but not great for wheelchair users. We are a couple of young 30 & 35 yr olds & enjoyed a week of just chilling, would reccomend if you're looking for a 3* half board in Santa Ponsa.
