Bahia del Sol Hotel
Ranked #29 of 35 Hotels in Santa Ponsa
Reviewed June 25, 2013

Arrived late on Sunday night to be told that there was no rooms for us and we had to stay next door - was gutted to begin with but luckily next door was also nice. We went all inclusive and was told that we needed to use all the facilities / food from the hotel we were meant to be in so just used next door as a room.

Moved back in after 3 nights with an upgrade to make up for it as well as being greeted with champagne!
Hotel on the whole was good - food was good and the drinks included in all inclusive was generous, including cocktails and cava! Pool was a good size, but not many sun beds around it - pool was freezing though!
Entertainment was slow, but possibly would pick up in the busier months - ran by one lonely bloke who did the best he could! Staff were helpful, especially at the bar but some spoke little English.
Hotel is around a 10 minute walk to the beach and surrounded by small shops and food places - would be good for families :)

Would definitely return, but only in quieter months - would be a nightmare to get a sun bed in the mornings in full summer season! Moving wasn't an issue but seemed to happen quite a lot, so don't be surprised if it happens to you!

the location is very good, the hotel is very clean throughout, but when its full it feels very crowded, paticularly around the pool and outside bar.the rooms are a bit tired in general.the food is ok,as the hotel is now mainly all inclusive,if you travel by car the main problem is the lack of onsite parking,it is in a rough piece of ground up the hill behind the hotel, having said all this the staff are very good, and the prices very reasonable and good value

Room Tip: the higher up the better the views get

Stayed here,1 week half board, 4/6/13-12/6/13.Location great,5 mins walk to the steps down to the bars and beach.Lovely seating area with seats tables and smoking friendly 'Garden of Eden' as Mother named it,just outside reception.Staff pleasant but seemed more pleasant with the majority which I understood to be German and Dutch.Quite a small outdoor pool, plenty sun loungers but guess what, you have to be an early bird to get one!.You can reserve them at a cost. Not sure if this is refunded on return of the hotel towel as I spotted the roof top Luxury Sun loungers ( payable at 5 euro half day,9 euro full day, like a huge double bed, faux leather with cushions, drapes all way round and adjustable draped roof).Didn't choose one as there was plenty normal sun loungers up there( floor 6 in lift 3 at furthest end of hotel,or floor 4 to other end and up to floor 6,follow the paw prints then out to the roof top). The bar was just being built with all new equipment being charged up.Will be lovely when finished.Rooms spacious and cleaned every day as we hung our card on the door handle requesting this.2 wardrobes so plenty of room for clothes.Fridge at no cost and a full screen tv with 2 English channels (news and more news!) free too.Now to the food..if your a tea lover, take your own.Found a few normal tea bags but soon went.Saw a few people taking there own in,just fill your tea pot with hot water and add!Breakfast highlights, freshly made pancakes and fresh fruit, lowlights, so called Bacon and Sausage(lovely full monty across the road at Bobby's!)..Evening meal highlights, fresh Salmon,Veal was nice too.Lowlights,Pork, potatoes and Fish in sauce. Plenty to choose from.Beautiful indoor pool next to gym down the stairs.Gym not my scene but the equipment looked impressive.Night time entertainment a little on the old side for me though did a mean waltz trying to get to the lavatory through the dancing couples one night!Sun quite shy on the Balconies but a lovely view from most rooms.Finally(phew)..beds comfy with padded quilt like sheets and air con quite decent.....

Room Tip: High floor for the view.Sea facing rooms get less sun than others

I have family that live in Santa Ponsa and would usually stay with them but last year there was a family wedding so we stayed at the Bahia as we have stayed there before.
This hotel all round is ok, maybe a bit dated. Our room which was a standard double was very small with no balcony and no chair at the dressing table. Last time I stayed here (around 6 years ago) the room was spacious with a balcony but i booked through a holiday company and got a package this time rather than direct with the hotel like before. I recommend asking for a balcony room as they are much bigger and better.
The air con didn't seem to work that well and our shower leaked a few times but, it was clean and tidy.
The breakfast was nice and varied, the swimming pools are nice and sunbeds are always available.
The evenings at the hotel are lame, but there's plenty of places to go outside of the hotel if you fancied.
A few members of the bar staff didn't seem that happy to be there but reception were very helpful.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a balcony room!

Location of this hotel, cleanliness and indoor pool excellent. Food very average, I would say a 3* rating. Now were do I start, whist there only one member of staff made us feel welcome, and that was a young girl hoovering the stairs on an evening, think all the members of staff could learn from her, no one ever smiles or aknowledges you. Whilst in bed 3 members of staff , one been a house keeping Manager entered our room, they shut the door said sorry and walked off leaving us alarmed. When going to the reception to report this the following day, we was told, what do you want me to do, I don't know who it is?? So unhelpful, this man on reception.
Advice about the indoor sauna, I entered on my own to be greated by a German man, laid on a sun bed, with his manhood all on show, joking apart, if you have teenage children I would advice not to let them in there, it shocked me and made me feel let down by the Hotel, as the staff was not approachable to discuss this with us. The rooms at the back are so noisey, the cleaning staff start so early you get no rest and you here everything from other holiday makers. Food always cold, breakfast, don't drink the juice!!! (thats why they must sell the fresh fruit juice at the door as you walk in at £1.50, that bad!!! Be carful round the outdoor pool, not to fall over the fuse boxes as you will break your toes, they are just stuck up in the middle of the path. This Hotel is mainly occupied by German tourists, who seemed to enjoy the entertainment, provided, but my husband and I don't ballroom dance or sit watching a large screen with the eurovision as entertainment. We will never return, but I guess you new that!!
Thank you Thomas Cook for a holiday from hell!! Happy holidays :(

This hotel is a nice hotel. The food is average, its a buffet style with a fairly good selection. The hotel itself looks lovely, the rooms are nice and quite big, the foyer is all marble and the lounge area is really nice. The staff are friendly and the service is good. Overall Its a fairly nice hotel to stay in, and its in a good position only 2 mins from the main beach. Ive had better food in other hotel but you get good quality food daily with fresh meat and fish cooked on the grill every night. I will definatly stay there again as it was value for money.

We are elderly and partially disabled and I'd emailed the hotel in advance to give notice of our requirements. (Incidentally don't worry that this hotel is populated by the Saga folk. We have always been independent travellers and shun the 'young at heart' groups. On this occasion there was a large spread of ages and countries represented in the hotel and guests were very friendly, with many from Europe speaking English)
Whilst I had arranged to occupy a specially adapted disabled room, the receptionist suggested we would find one of the ordinary rooms much more congenial. How right she was! We were allocated Room 401 which is large and on a front corner of the hotel and overlooks both the swimming pool, the nearby beach and gives views out to sea. This side of the hotel gets sun for most of the day and it was a pleasure just sitting on our balcony when we weren't taking our daily short promenade to Santa Ponsa's main square. However there is a small amount of traffic noise at the front of the hotel but it isn't intrusive.
The staff were attentive and helpful and I was surprised to read other reviewers' reports they believed they were being ignored and also that the cleaners disturbed them with their trolleys in the morning.. The Bahia is a large hotel which by definition needs to be properly serviced. Those who have complained would have more to complain about if there room wasn't cleaned on a daily basis!
The food was varied and plentiful. Of course there is always an element of mass catering in any Spanish hotel of this type but this was interleaved with frest produce, salads etc. In fact we have stayed in some of the most expensive hotels on Majorca and the Bahia compares favourably even to them. But one reviewer has complained the breakfast orange juice was watery However if he had asked he would have discovered delicious freshly squeezed orange juice was available at breakfast for a small fee..
Altogether the help and kindness we received from the staff and the excellent location of the hotel will not be forgotten and we keenly look forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: Front of the hotel is best for all day sun
