“Staff are awful and rooms unfinished”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

Went with Jet2 half board and we were very disappointed. The hotel is not a 4 star hotel by any standards!! Staff dismiss you with short unhelpful replies and if you dare to approach them more than once they have an attitude. We were told all rooms had sea views but they didn't and reception flatly refused us a room change telling us that the hotel was full, which was a lie. No working air-conditioning and no fan in the room so we couldn't get a decent nights sleep. There were so many faults with the rooms and staff and we didn't like the resort either. The wi-fi was only in the public areas but after all these events we just gave up. Breakfast was awful and dinner just ok, if you don't go too late. The entertainment was good but drinks were very over priced and we could get the same drinks outside the hotel for half the price just around the corner!

Stayed for 11 nights all inclusive from 7 June, was told about the minor work on going before booking and we did not find it a problem. Found food and drinks very good, after the first week the poolside bar served food and drink to 11pm it was pleasant to sit and relax in the evening and take in the lovely view with a nice sea breeze as the weather the last four days was very hot. We stayed in room 301 and this is where the but comes in as the weather got warmer the suite got more like a sauna as the air condition is best describe as poor a problem the management are now aware of hope they get it resolved soon as it would become unbearable in July @ August which good spoil a hotel what has the potential to become excellent when all work is finished.

My wife and I have just returned from a short trip to the Fergus Style Suites Cala Blanca on an all-inc board basis. We really enjoyed our break and would happily return to this hotel in the future. The Hotel is still undergoing some minor work, but it seems that these are merely finishing touches to what has been a very nice refurbishment.

We arrived via shuttle bus and were around 10th or 11th drop (we won’t do that again), and I can say that upon arrival, the Fergus was by far the nicest we had seen. Inside the reception area, bar area, and restaurant areas were all very smart and immaculately clean. An excellent first impression.

We stayed in a junior suite (room 038) in a fantastic position overlooking the pool and the beach.

Some minor gripes…
· The room was recently refurbished and you could still smell the paint, and unfortunately the plaster/concrete dust which did trigger my allergic reactions a little.
· The room was comfortable and had everything you needed, although there was no sun bed on the balcony (as it seems was advertised and pictured on Hotels.com), it looks like these are only included with the full suites.
· The main bed was comfortable (brand new) although they may need to put mattress protectors on them as there was only a sheet between you and the mattress.
· There was no bin anywhere in our room, we did inform reception on the first day but by the time we left, we still had no bin (not a massive issue for us as we did not create much rubbish).
· The mini-bar barely kept the drinks below room temperature, not sure if we had a faulty one?
These minor things I would expect will be resolved and will not be an issue for future guests.

In general the suite was perfectly good, nice shower, nice furnishings, nice TV with several English channels and perfect picture, Free wi-fi was good as well, so generally we were happy.
Pool area was great, restaurant and poolside snack bar were also excellent. The 2 bars served very good drinks including some very nice cocktails. Food in the restaurant was varied, a good selection to suit all tastes. The beach area was also very nice although it might be nice if they could find a way to clear the old dead seaweed away, as you had to step through a deep line of this if you wanted to get into the water. Looks like it had been there for quite some time.

Animation and activities program was okay, although I suspect the nightly 9pm kids disco might be better at 8pm as another reviewer has already said. The evening cabaret shows and guest artists were enough to keep you amused as you sat with an evening drink.
The kids pool area was really very nice and we’d definitely bring our kids here on a future trip. Towels were available to guests at reception.

We were able to arrange and pay for a late checkout on the final day which effectively gave us a very nice full final days holiday. In terms of board basis, I would say that the extra that you pay for all-inc is definitely worthwhile.

Whilst we were there, some of the suites were having hut tubs delivered to their balconies, would be nice to come back and give them a go at some point in the future.

As per other reviews, I would expect that as the hotel irons out the few initial minor issues, that this has the potential to be a fantastic hotel that will stand out from those around it. I would not be surprised to look back at Trip Advisor in 6 months to see it ranked #1 of the 37 or so hotels in Santa Ponsa.

Thank Fergus you for a very nice stay.

Room Tip: 028, 038, 048 seemed to be the closest to the beach with excellent views over the pool also.

Have just returned on 14/07/2013 from a wonderful week. well what can i say but brilliant hotel, great staff, great location. Rooms are good, bedroom, sitting area with flat screen tv, chill out bed on balcony. Very comfy beds. Lovely restaurant with very nice food. although can be a bit samey at times, but allways tasty and well cooked. Over the road there is an area called the square which has tribute acts on , we saw the Abba one which was great fun. Poss 20 min walk into Santa Ponsa via either the sea front or through the shopping area. Certain spirits on the all inclusive are premium ones ie smirnoff, johnny walker. We were in room 216 which overlooked the entertainment area great view. When we arrived though after a very early start the music was very loud so if you wanted a kip no chance. So we had a word and the manager had it sorted very quickly. Cocktails are made from scratch at the beach bar in plastic glasses, but in doors with all bells and whistles. A fantastic holiday, my only complaint is go back to work tomorrow. Any questions don,t hesitate to ask. Andy & Sandy

I found the hotel on Booking.com when I was looking for a place to stay for two nights following the cancellation of my flight. A resident we know brought us to the hotel. The presentation of the exterior of the hotel and reception leads us to believe that the same standard would apply throughout the hotel, and it did mostly. A glass lift brings you down to the reception area from street level and I see they have added signage to make it easier for people locating the entrance.

Our room was very spacious and modern - a large bathroom, large bedroom, large sitting room with plasma TV and study table, a nicely sized dressing room and a large balcony was also nice and spacious with an outdoor coach but there should be a better clothes hanger for drying clothes instead of using balcony railings. The view of the pool was partly interrupted due to a large palm tree but still beautiful and a great location. Photos attached don't really do it justice as we did have a fairly decentsh view of the pool! We certainly got one of the nicer rooms with a view compared with other rooms. The beds were also very comfy. My complaints about the room were that the walls were wafer thin. You could hear the people next door pretty clear. The air conditioning was absolutely useless and a number of other people complained at reception but were fobbed off. There was no hot water on the second night, it was luke warm. People complaining were fobbed off at reception - from the day we arrived checking in to the evening we checked out!

The room had Free WiFi, a Free Safe, a Small Fridge (that wasn't that cold!), free beach towels each day available at reception (big comfy ones!), rooms cleaned daily including fresh sheets and fresh towels - all at no extra cost. So top marks for that. No Kettle available it appeared and no guide in the room (there looks like there was but the pages were missing!!). The TV had limited English channels and the signal was poor - reception seemed uninterested and just fobbed me off saying there were only two English channels and to find them out myself!

Which brings me to reception - the ladies working there appeared to have little personality and were not the easiest to deal with. Informing them that the free WiFi wasn't working consisted of a 'It is' 'It isn't' response going back and forth between us until she said that they would ask the engineers to come out again and look at it but they were there the day before already. Thankfully, the WiFi wasn't down for long. The tall gentleman was the most helpful and explained they were having problems with the air condition. He obliged us by printing our boarding cards and was the most helpful and friendly, despite them all not having the best of English.

The lifts were tiny and cramped. It shows as fitting four people but its four people at a struggle. The doors have no sensors, so if your walking in and they close they will continue to close and not spot that your walking in and thus stop closing. You need to apply force to push the doors back if they close in on you. Simply, the lifts are very out dated and the most out dated part of the hotel. The floor that reception on needs to be indicated on the buttons. This wasn't re-fitted during the renovation of the hotel.

Breakfast was plentiful. A huge selection catering for most nationalities staying in the hotel. The room was bright and airy, very spacious. It seems to be the same room dinner is served in. Fizzy Drinks, Hot Drinks, Water - all generally plentiful. But the staff were slow to pick up empty plates (i.e. clean the tables) so you generally put them on the nearest empty table. There was no Orange Juice or English Sausages (what were marked as English Sausages were not). The staff were also slow to replenish breakfast items, water, and juices plus the hot drinks machines were turned off before people left breakfast.

The pool area has a lovely sized pool - deep and shallow water for the adults and a lovely kids pool with a cool bridge, slides and a waterfall to keep the kids amused. There appears to be plenty of kids entertainment at the pool side and in the gardens at the rear of the hotel where more development work was ongoing including what appeared to be a mini playground and a pony track. The staff looking after the children seemed to really get into it and enjoy entertaining the children. Lifeguards didn't seem fully focused on their job, often talking to friends at the entrance to the beach. The seating area is a little small if those want to stay beside the pool, so at peak season, I can imagine it would get hectic and cramped. There was plenty of seats in the shade and lovely comfy seats at that. There were other seating areas away from the hustle and bustle that got sun. Staff frequently walked around cleaning up, taking away glasses and plates and so on which was an excellent service.

The idea of a heated indoor pool was a good one - especially during winter.

The beach was very nice. Its a nice small beach with seating and the water was nice and warm. Lots of seaweed and its rocky on one side. But a lovely swim and nice and relaxing away from the hustle and bustle. You can also go diving, the service is available at the entrance to the beach which has a nice wooden decking leading down to the beach.

The Pool Bar had a small selection of food which always tasted nice. Drinks are small though and the chips tasted like they were cooked for sometime and only reheated to serve. Otherwise, food and service was generally very good. Nice away to stay in the area of the pool and get something to eat. There was also a bar indoors with a lovely modern seating area.

At night the place was well kept and cleaned with plenty of lighting which made the whole area look very impressive. It was also kept very clean and tidy.

Room Tip: They offer mostly side pool view rooms. The very front of the hotel, where there is limited rooms, h...

On arrival in May at night we liked the hotel and everything feels good but in the morning construction started and there was noisy work in the hotel. We asked the reception when it finish and the receptionist said ..... there is nothing and there is no work going but there was work and there was lot of noise and hard for my relaxing. Breakfast was not good and very few things and not good quality. The room very small and smell of painting. I do not like Santa Ponsa and the hotel.
