“"Lovely hotel, very clean."”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

This was our first time staying at his hotel in santa ponsa, we wanted a hotel nearer to shops and bars, so chose this one.

We did read reviews before booking to stay here and although some of them were mixed as they usually are we decided to give this hotel a go, we did read in reviews that it was recommended that u used the hotel safes and safety deposit boxes and also beware of pick pocketers, we were wary of this, didnt come across any pickpocketers, everyday we locked away in our lugguage any valubles and money, laptop etc, and secured our lugguage with padlocks, that way we didnt use the hotel safe or safety deposit boxes which would have costed 4 euros a day so we saved 28 euros doing it our way. There was a notice on the wall in your room stating that they recommend that u lock away all valubles as they dont accept any liability for any personel belongings being stolen, says a lot for their trust in the staff the employ, but for our own peace of mind we locked everything away

.You are only given one key to your room which might be a problem if you have older kids which want to go off, even we found it difficult at times as occasionally we did seperate activites and left and came back at different times, you will find 2 keys on 1 key ring, but the keys cant be seperated, the other key is for the electric, wen u enter the room there is a socket where u place the key in and that turns on the electic only draw back to this is that wen you go out the electric gets turned off so your unable to charge phones whislt out and the fridge switches off so be warned and dont go buying too much food at once as if ur out all day the fridge is off.

kitchen was small but adequate enough,we cooked in there most nights and some mornings, but to be fair the cost of a breakfast is works out cheaper than buying all the ingrediants seperately and cooking it yourself the local supermarkets do tend to rip you off where they can for example for breakfast ingrediants, for 3 sausages it cost 3 euros 95 cents and good quality bacon cost the same for 4 slices not to mention the eggs, bread, tomatoes, sauce etc, and a breakfast can cost around 4 euros which included toast and tea/coffee, so best for breakfast if you liked cooked is to eat out, We didnt have a sharp knife and ended up buying one for the cost of 1 euro 50 cents, there was no toaster either, which you think would come as standard, the cooker is two rings and there is no oven, but which ever hotel you stay in ovens dont come as standard you just have a double ring hob to cook on, it can be a bit of a juggling act cooking with just 2 rings but it can be done with careful planning of a meal,

Good size dining table and 4 chairs and good size sofa, which would comfortably sleep 2 adults,.beds are a bit bigger than ordinary size single beds, they were pushed together to form a double bed, sheets lovely crisp and clean, with a covering blanket over the top, pillows long and thin but comfortable enough. TV was good about 4 english channels BBC channels and ITV ITV2, tv was situated on the wall above a small unit , bathroom of a good size clean with an over the bath shower, good power in the shower and the temp was good hot and cold, bath had built in non slip mat, compliemetry bath products on arrival clean towels everyday, inc bath mat for outside of the bath/floor, toilet rolls replenished when neccessary room cleaned everyday, apart from thurs/sun but you still get clean towels on this day, it varies what time they clean your rooms sometimes earlyish morning and sometimes even afternoon, a couple of times we just asked for clean towels as we kept our room in good order, on arrival in your room you are provided with a tea towel and bath products.

The patio dooras leading out to the patio area have the curtains that shut the sunlight out in order to keep the room cool, as we didnt have sun blaring in we didnt always have to shut these curtains on going out but if you do even though we didnt have direct sunlight when shut it helped to keep the room cool, the air conditioning didnt work in our room but to us it didnt really matter as we had a side sea view room and we didnt have direct sunlight so the room was pretty cool anyway.

our balcony was of a good size walled with railings on top which you can hang your wet towels over to dry, two patio chairs and a small not adequate enough table it was too low to eat off we ended up taking the coffee table out onto the patio not totally ideal but a little higher than the patio table,, there was room enough on the patio to even take out the dining room table and chairs if you so wished, but you wouldnt be able to have the whole lot out at once, but if you wanted to eat on the patio you would be more comfortable to take the ding room table out there., the balcony looked out onto a cliff face covered in greenery, our room was supposed to be a side sea view, but you had to really bend and stretch over the railings to see the sea, we asked to be moved to another room, we were celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary whilst out there and wanted a room with a great view, we didnt want to be staring at a green leafery cliff face, but a rude member of staff on reception abrupty told me that i could change rooms at the cost of 28 euros a night, this was ludicrus especially as we chose that hotel to stay in to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary, they werent accommodating and refused to help and makes us happy, which we felt was a let down so we decided to stay where we were, so bear in mind if you choose a side sea view, you have to be a cauntaushanist in order to see the sea.

The pool was clean and we only stayed by the pool one afternoon and didnt again as the bar prices we expensive it cost 11 euros for 2 drinks i had a cocktail and my husband had a pint of the local beer dorarda its called, couldnt be paying those prices, so we didnt stay by the pool again and there is a notice up that any food and drink consumed had to be bought from the bar, its not something you could have got away with your own food and drink as there were staff walking about a lot making sure you were drinking and eating their food and drinks, so for us that was the first and last time we did that.

The shops are just a stones throw away from the hotel there are 2 supermarkets close by the spar we found out to be the most expensive of the 2, there is a supermarket only a minute form the other one near to some steps which is the cheaper one and does have a better selection as well, we spent 30 euros and that cooked us meals for 5 nights for the two of us, which was good, we bought fresh bread every morning, french stick/ciabatta to make up sandwiches that we took out to either the beach or a nearby cove which has sun loungers only a 15 min walk away.

The town centre was about a 15 min walk away, bars shops restaurants along the way and in the centre, there is a macdonalds in the centre too, lovely clothes shops which are reasonably priced and some lovely beach towels at 5 euros each, but i believe there is a coastal walk which takes you to the beach in about 10 mins but you avoid the shops going that way,,If u walk into town in the evening be prepared for bar workers nagg you to go and drink i their bar, either 2 for 1 or shots with drinks etc, they can be quite annoying they are all standing outside trying their best to get you to drink in their bar, u just have to be assertive, you do what you want to do, dont let them make your mind up..

There are various activities to do in santa ponsa, boat trips, semi submarine boats where the top of it is out of water and the bottom of the boat is in the sea so you can see the sea life under the water, there are boat trips where it goes around the coast and at certain pints drops anchor and you can take a swim in the sea, there is scuba diving as well, fully instructional and you get to do a 45 min dive all equipment included in the price and you also get a dvd of your dive, thats about 2/ 2and a half hours long and costs 90 euros, there is also jungle park in santa ponsa which is all high ropes and zip wires, there are three courses depending on the level of difficulty, they also cater for children on these courses too.

There is a taxi rank 2 mins away from the hotel, it costs 4/5 euro to get into the town centre, seems to cost a lot if its only a 15 min walk, away but with it being a one way system for cars the cars have to go a different way to the way you would walk it. it costs 41 euros to get a taxi to palma airport from the taxi rank near the hotel, or you can walk or taxi it in to town and you would need to catch two buses in order to get to the airport that way, if your luggage is small and not that heavy i would go by bus it will be a bit cheaper but if u have bulky heavy luggage id suggest getting a taxi, buses are packed and the first 2 that came we were unable to get on it, we didnt see the driver opening the side doors for luggage either, so carrying on heavy big suitcases would be very hard work and those buses get crowded, we ended up getting a taxi in the end, there is a taxi rank opposite the bus station in town and from there to the airport in a taxi cost between 37/38 euros. If you fancy going to Magaluf from santa ponsa its not as far away as you think its a 10 minute ride in a taxi and cost 10 euros which was very good, we had a good night there on the strip, good atmosphere. I personally would go back to this hotel, i liked it.

Room Tip: rooms at the front of the hotel over look the beach, and pool,

as hotels go in the Santa Ponsa area of Mallorca, this one is not bad at all, overall the hotel is amazing for the prices, our sore point was our booking said sea view, upon seeing our balcony we strained our necks to see a pond at the end of the hotel, this they class as a side view, but all you really see is a little water, the typical view we had was vegetation and a cliff face.
But, there was a bright side to this, we didnt suffer with the suns glare heating up our room all day, that was a blessing as there air conditioning was useless.
on entering our room we had to place a key in the room to turn the electric on, meaning, that if we was at the beach all day the fridge was turned off, so you couldn't keep much in it and keep it fresh.
The hotel was located right outside the Square with lots of bars and shops, unfortunately, these shops we're doing there best to rip every cent out of you each time you visited, some bacon, eggs, beans tomatoes and bread, (everything you need for a good breakfast) cost over 35 euros. so eating in was an expensive past time.
It is becoming clear from this our second visit to Santa Ponsa that the "all inclusive" holidays so many people are now taking is killing the social aspect of the foreign holidays, the bars are struggling, and we have seen bar prices rise by over 1 euro a pint on two years ago.
the hotel was very clean, and house keeping very good, but it is worth noting the hotels policy on your personal belongings. on the wall in the rooms is a notice stating they do not accept liability for items being stolen, for your rooms being broken into, (even with the sloppy locks on the doors and windows), or even there employees stealing items or money from your rooms, they advise you pay €4 a day for the room safes. We for one will not book with this hotel on this basis alone. they as a company have to employ people with the highest trust, and expect that as we pay good money to stay there, we should be able to trust hotel employees at least.

the pool area is amazing, clean, although we didnt use the pool, and there bar was overly expensive,
We would suggest you take advantage of the Square for nightly entertainment, they have many tribute acts, and some of them we're very good.
Or walk about a mile down to the main beach area for lots of late bars food and entertainment

Room Tip: pay that little bit more for a better quality room

Just back from a week's stay at these apartments. Was a bit wary after reading all the comments about thefts but we didn't see or hear of any problems while we were there and nothing was ever touched in our room. We did hire a safety deposit box at reception for our money and passports. There were always plenty of beds round the pool but maybe that's because we went at a quieter time of year so never experienced the rush for beds. We had a room on the second floor and the views were great, we booked a side sea view but got the full view at no extra cost, i would imagine the views from the higher floors would be the best as some of lower floors may have trees in front of your balcony! The staff on reception were nice and friendly. Our apartment was a good size, more than enough space for 2 of us, good size fridge with little freezer compartment. It's a bit disappointing that there is no toaster unless you hire one as i would have thought this is something you should automatically get in an apartment. We didn't watch TV much but was good that you didn't just get usual 2 english news channels, you got itv, itv2 etc so you could watch your soaps on itv jf you felt so inclined. Good sized balcony and very quiet at night.Lovely walk to main beach along the coastal path by the front of the hotels which took about 10 minutes or if you went along the back way past the shops and restaurants then it was about a 15 minute walk. Plenty of nice bars and restaurants near the apartment if you don't want to walk to the main area and there are various tribute acts on at the area nearby called "the square" which finish just before midnight. The two restaurants near to the apartments which I really liked were Manolo's and Mark Anthony's , the chicken and steak in Manolo's were especially nice. For breakfast it was well worth the walk to the centre to go to The "scottish corner" , the food was lovely and reasonably priced, the terrace is up a flight of steps and has nice views. There is a bouncy castle and other games to keep the kids amused. The sunsets from the beach are amazing, we sat in a little beach bar to watch, drinks a bit pricey but was worth it for the amazing view of the sunset.

Room Tip: Ask for a full sea view room on a higher floor.

The Jardin Del Mar apartments were very central to all amenities, the square offers excellent entertainment every night. Apartments themselves were small - though clean and comfortable - plenty of storage for clothes etc. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful, especially the guy that worked at the pool bar. Laundry facilities on site were very good for freshening towels etc. Pool bar offered a good variety of snacks and drinks at very reasonable prices! Overall great stay in Santa Ponsa.
Pool facilities very good, although more sun loungers would be beneficial - it was extremely embarrassing at 9am each morning when people staying at the hotel had to scramble to reserve loungers!!
Safety deposit boxes are located in the foyer of the accommodation which was fine although not much space to store belongings.
great stay at the Jardin Del Mar - would def come back!!

Just returned from a week stay here...and thought I must be at a different hotel from the bad reviews.was worried about coming because of them but things went smoothly..check-in was quick but it was evening..the member of staff was pleasant and helpful.safety deposit is a must anywhere these days but didnt here of any thefts...leave your phones, computers and so on at home,,,, your on holiday! Ok, so the room was dated, but it was clean and we had paid for a frontal sea view!! Its worth the extra as its stunning.first day the pool was crazy..so didnt even try but alot went home after that and never had any mad rush after that, but the little private cove next to hotel is lovely, so you dont need the pool. Location is amazing, much better than the main bit of santa ponsa, which is good for dinner but for entertainment you cant beat the square. Beach is stunning! mark anthonys for dinner is good...its on the way down to beach ...left hand side...the lady there (I think sarah?) Is lovely. The Chinese restaurant a bit further up from there called hong kong is lovely and the staff are lovely also. The tuck inn...very nice couple...just starting out I think but only had drinks there but good evening. All in all first week in September was the best time to go ,missed all the crowds but still plenty going on...would def recommend this hotel...if you book a frontal sea view and dont expect 5star then you will love it.

Room Tip: Frontal sea view is a must
