This was our first time staying at his hotel in santa ponsa, we wanted a hotel nearer to shops and bars, so chose this one.
We did read reviews before booking to stay here and although some of them were mixed as they usually are we decided to give this hotel a go, we did read in reviews that it was recommended that u used the hotel safes and safety deposit boxes and also beware of pick pocketers, we were wary of this, didnt come across any pickpocketers, everyday we locked away in our lugguage any valubles and money, laptop etc, and secured our lugguage with padlocks, that way we didnt use the hotel safe or safety deposit boxes which would have costed 4 euros a day so we saved 28 euros doing it our way. There was a notice on the wall in your room stating that they recommend that u lock away all valubles as they dont accept any liability for any personel belongings being stolen, says a lot for their trust in the staff the employ, but for our own peace of mind we locked everything away
.You are only given one key to your room which might be a problem if you have older kids which want to go off, even we found it difficult at times as occasionally we did seperate activites and left and came back at different times, you will find 2 keys on 1 key ring, but the keys cant be seperated, the other key is for the electric, wen u enter the room there is a socket where u place the key in and that turns on the electic only draw back to this is that wen you go out the electric gets turned off so your unable to charge phones whislt out and the fridge switches off so be warned and dont go buying too much food at once as if ur out all day the fridge is off.
kitchen was small but adequate enough,we cooked in there most nights and some mornings, but to be fair the cost of a breakfast is works out cheaper than buying all the ingrediants seperately and cooking it yourself the local supermarkets do tend to rip you off where they can for example for breakfast ingrediants, for 3 sausages it cost 3 euros 95 cents and good quality bacon cost the same for 4 slices not to mention the eggs, bread, tomatoes, sauce etc, and a breakfast can cost around 4 euros which included toast and tea/coffee, so best for breakfast if you liked cooked is to eat out, We didnt have a sharp knife and ended up buying one for the cost of 1 euro 50 cents, there was no toaster either, which you think would come as standard, the cooker is two rings and there is no oven, but which ever hotel you stay in ovens dont come as standard you just have a double ring hob to cook on, it can be a bit of a juggling act cooking with just 2 rings but it can be done with careful planning of a meal,
Good size dining table and 4 chairs and good size sofa, which would comfortably sleep 2 adults,.beds are a bit bigger than ordinary size single beds, they were pushed together to form a double bed, sheets lovely crisp and clean, with a covering blanket over the top, pillows long and thin but comfortable enough. TV was good about 4 english channels BBC channels and ITV ITV2, tv was situated on the wall above a small unit , bathroom of a good size clean with an over the bath shower, good power in the shower and the temp was good hot and cold, bath had built in non slip mat, compliemetry bath products on arrival clean towels everyday, inc bath mat for outside of the bath/floor, toilet rolls replenished when neccessary room cleaned everyday, apart from thurs/sun but you still get clean towels on this day, it varies what time they clean your rooms sometimes earlyish morning and sometimes even afternoon, a couple of times we just asked for clean towels as we kept our room in good order, on arrival in your room you are provided with a tea towel and bath products.
The patio dooras leading out to the patio area have the curtains that shut the sunlight out in order to keep the room cool, as we didnt have sun blaring in we didnt always have to shut these curtains on going out but if you do even though we didnt have direct sunlight when shut it helped to keep the room cool, the air conditioning didnt work in our room but to us it didnt really matter as we had a side sea view room and we didnt have direct sunlight so the room was pretty cool anyway.
our balcony was of a good size walled with railings on top which you can hang your wet towels over to dry, two patio chairs and a small not adequate enough table it was too low to eat off we ended up taking the coffee table out onto the patio not totally ideal but a little higher than the patio table,, there was room enough on the patio to even take out the dining room table and chairs if you so wished, but you wouldnt be able to have the whole lot out at once, but if you wanted to eat on the patio you would be more comfortable to take the ding room table out there., the balcony looked out onto a cliff face covered in greenery, our room was supposed to be a side sea view, but you had to really bend and stretch over the railings to see the sea, we asked to be moved to another room, we were celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary whilst out there and wanted a room with a great view, we didnt want to be staring at a green leafery cliff face, but a rude member of staff on reception abrupty told me that i could change rooms at the cost of 28 euros a night, this was ludicrus especially as we chose that hotel to stay in to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary, they werent accommodating and refused to help and makes us happy, which we felt was a let down so we decided to stay where we were, so bear in mind if you choose a side sea view, you have to be a cauntaushanist in order to see the sea.
The pool was clean and we only stayed by the pool one afternoon and didnt again as the bar prices we expensive it cost 11 euros for 2 drinks i had a cocktail and my husband had a pint of the local beer dorarda its called, couldnt be paying those prices, so we didnt stay by the pool again and there is a notice up that any food and drink consumed had to be bought from the bar, its not something you could have got away with your own food and drink as there were staff walking about a lot making sure you were drinking and eating their food and drinks, so for us that was the first and last time we did that.
The shops are just a stones throw away from the hotel there are 2 supermarkets close by the spar we found out to be the most expensive of the 2, there is a supermarket only a minute form the other one near to some steps which is the cheaper one and does have a better selection as well, we spent 30 euros and that cooked us meals for 5 nights for the two of us, which was good, we bought fresh bread every morning, french stick/ciabatta to make up sandwiches that we took out to either the beach or a nearby cove which has sun loungers only a 15 min walk away.
The town centre was about a 15 min walk away, bars shops restaurants along the way and in the centre, there is a macdonalds in the centre too, lovely clothes shops which are reasonably priced and some lovely beach towels at 5 euros each, but i believe there is a coastal walk which takes you to the beach in about 10 mins but you avoid the shops going that way,,If u walk into town in the evening be prepared for bar workers nagg you to go and drink i their bar, either 2 for 1 or shots with drinks etc, they can be quite annoying they are all standing outside trying their best to get you to drink in their bar, u just have to be assertive, you do what you want to do, dont let them make your mind up..
There are various activities to do in santa ponsa, boat trips, semi submarine boats where the top of it is out of water and the bottom of the boat is in the sea so you can see the sea life under the water, there are boat trips where it goes around the coast and at certain pints drops anchor and you can take a swim in the sea, there is scuba diving as well, fully instructional and you get to do a 45 min dive all equipment included in the price and you also get a dvd of your dive, thats about 2/ 2and a half hours long and costs 90 euros, there is also jungle park in santa ponsa which is all high ropes and zip wires, there are three courses depending on the level of difficulty, they also cater for children on these courses too.
There is a taxi rank 2 mins away from the hotel, it costs 4/5 euro to get into the town centre, seems to cost a lot if its only a 15 min walk, away but with it being a one way system for cars the cars have to go a different way to the way you would walk it. it costs 41 euros to get a taxi to palma airport from the taxi rank near the hotel, or you can walk or taxi it in to town and you would need to catch two buses in order to get to the airport that way, if your luggage is small and not that heavy i would go by bus it will be a bit cheaper but if u have bulky heavy luggage id suggest getting a taxi, buses are packed and the first 2 that came we were unable to get on it, we didnt see the driver opening the side doors for luggage either, so carrying on heavy big suitcases would be very hard work and those buses get crowded, we ended up getting a taxi in the end, there is a taxi rank opposite the bus station in town and from there to the airport in a taxi cost between 37/38 euros. If you fancy going to Magaluf from santa ponsa its not as far away as you think its a 10 minute ride in a taxi and cost 10 euros which was very good, we had a good night there on the strip, good atmosphere. I personally would go back to this hotel, i liked it.
