Upon arrival Reception there was around 6 people waiting to be served, 2 of which had jumped the queue and decided to have a lengthy conversation with both the Receptionists with no consideration for anyone else waiting!
When the Reception staff finally acknowledged us they started to do the necessary paperwork and was then otherwise again sidetracked by a conversation with the cleaner, this got extremely frustrating.

We paid £120 euros deposit by card, I am not sure what the deposit amount is generally as we were told £150 euros when I emailed them prior to arrival, people had advised they paid different amounts so I think its just a random number, this was not an issue as we was aware that on arrival we had to pay for this.

We was given a room on the 7th floor, this was through choice as after reading many bad reviews I was not going to accept anything below the 3rd floor, The receptionist tried her hardest to try and give us a room on the 2nd floor but I wasn’t having it.

The comments are true in regards to the corridors when you go in, very gloomy and like a prison, the lift hadn’t been cleaned in years, if at all, there was dried in what looked like either blood or tomato sauce with graffiti all over it, not a great first impression I have to say, however when we arrived at our apartment it was a nice surprise.

The apartment itself was clean and had everything you needed in regards to cooking utensils etc (but we was not going to be doing any cooking!) however there was no soap, 2 towels each for 5 nights and 1 toilet roll, yes you have to buy your own once you have used the toilet rolls, this was not an issue as it was only 95 euros for 4 at the downstairs supermarkets, we did not have any dish cloths or tea towels provided either to clean up as you go, just a mop!, there is no maid service, this can be beneficial in some ways as at least you wasn’t being woken up early like we have had on previous holidays elsewhere, the downside is you have to empty your own bin in the big bins on the street!

The balcony in the apartment was very spacious and a nice way to relax with a drink before a night out, we had a great sea view from the front, also from the back we had a view of the pool and the rollercoaster at Port Adventura so couldn’t complain about that, just as we requested.

Location wise is fantastic, a few bars and shops in the immediate area but only 5 minutes from the main strip and close to the bus stop to Barcelona or Port Adventura etc.

Please be advised when walking around in general there are some very dodgy characters around and it was a bit scary at times, we was offered drugs quite openly, we just walked away, there were comments regarding muggings quite regularly taking place here so be on your guard at all times, day and night.

The pool was very nice with plenty of sunbeds to cater for the amount of guests.

We were advised by Reception that it was the St Johns Day celebrations in Salou whilst we were there and therefore fireworks will be constantly going off, this was true, 3 days continuous, day and night, all day long, this got a little bit annoying after a while.

Although we were on the top floor it was still constantly noisy, no matter what time of the day or night it was, there were people shouting in the early hours and the sound of furniture being moved all the time.

Upon check out we received our deposit back without any questions asked and overall this service was extremely quicker that the ½ hour that had been taken to check in, mainly as this was a different Receptionist and she was giving us her full attention this time, very pleasant lady and very friendly.

Places I would recommend are Murphys bar, this is located just around the corner, Emma and Benny are great hosts and there is live music if you want it, Dom from Cork was good, Sinatra’s across the road for fantastic food, The Welsh Embassy and The Victoria were also great bars, these are located around the corner and just down the road from Murphys.

We went to Port Adventura, the park is very nice but a few handy tips, get your tickets beforehand from the ticket agents across the road and also check that the schools are not off or end of term as it was rammed because of this when we went, therefore it spoilt it, in the 9 hours we was there we only got on 2 rides because of constant queing for hours at a cost of £40.00 each, expensive day and felt ripped off.

I would also recommend the house of illusions show, this is an all inclusive night out, and there is either an early show at 6:30 which includes food or the later show without food that starts at 9:30.

The show is fantastic and if you upgrade to VIP for 5 euros each it is so worth it, you get champagne and also involved with the acts, which is hilarious.

The staff are very friendly, as are the magicians, very talented guys that will keep you mesmerised for hours.

After the show you get the chance to meet them and have photographs taken.

Also a trip to Chaplins is a must, they have some great shows on, my personal favourite was the hypnotist on Monday evenings, Rodney James Piper, hilarious with of course the Gay John song! I still can’t stop singing it! The staff are really friendly, particularly Carla who we got to know quite well, so lovely.

Chrissies Irish Bar also a great bar with entertainment and a great atmosphere, again great staff, this is located a few doors down from Chaplins.
We generally had a great time but if we were to go back to Salou again we would not stay at the Mariposa as there are better hotels around the area, Hotel Ora Park and Playa Park as well as the Mediterranean or the Santa Monica, opposite Chaplins, just off the strip.

Very noisy at night, people running on corridors! we moved matresses to living room and slept with the window open (NO AIR CON!) there was less noise at night coming from the streets than corridors! We spend there 5 days- not even once our apartment been clean on towels and bed linen changed. Salou is beautifull, close to bus stop, 5min wal to the beach but aboud hour walk to train station. spanish people dont speek english!

Room Tip: pay more and book a hotel not apartment- unless you dont like to sleep at night.

First and last time I will stay here, stayed here for a week 8th June 2013. Would advise you if you come here and get room 8 on floor 3 of block 1 ask to b moved as I didn't sleep a wink all week for noisy people running about and mostly foreigners not any consideration. Asked receptionist how much it would cost to keep room on as we had a late flight. For her to roll her eyes at me and say come back tomorrow at 4pm when we have to vacate our room at 10am

on arrival we met a lovely lady who checked us in and gave us all the information we needed about the apartment. the deposit was €110 which we got back when leaving no problem.

these apartments were perfect for a weeks stay, they are very clean and come with everything you will need e.g. towels and clean change of bed sheets and extra blankets. there is no cleaners so you are left do it all yourself which isn't a problem.
the apartment me and my partner got was quite small but ok for us. the bedroom had a double bed and the room was tiny. i had no issues though cause we were only sleeping in there. the balcony was a good size and got the sun shile in the afternoons which was great.
the pool was a good enough size and clean.

the reception offers facility's such as a washing machine which i think is around 5 euros. safety boxes which were 18 euros for the week, also iron and wifi. they can also sell you tickets to Portaventura.

the location of the apartments are brilliant, only a 2 min walk and you are on the main strip with all the pubs and restaurants. there is a lovely small beach only 5 mins walk up the hill which i think i better than the big one. also there is a walk way on the small beach that brings you round to the bigger one.

i was there at the end of may and they were quite then but id say June n July they will be busy and quite noisy.
i would recommend these apartments to couples and groups of friends.
overall great apartments.

The Mariposa apartments are approx half an hour transfer from Reyes airport.

The apartments do not have their own reception you use the tourist information next door. If that is closed you go to a hotel a little further up the road but this did not affect us. Lady who checked us in was extremely helpful. They take a 120 euro deposit in cash which is returned at the end of the stay if the apartment is in a good condition,

The apartment is large clean and tidy. It has a balcony with table and chairs and a dryer for damp clothes. A large living room with pull out bed, a tv and full kitchen. The bathroom was modern and clean and there is a seperate bedroom with two single beds.

There is a large pool. For the four days we were there we were the only people to use it.

There is no safety deposit box but the apartments have a key entry system.

The apartment is a one minute walk to the main strip. Salou is great, full of bars and resturants. We went on a girly weekend a litle quiet for us but the town has everything you could need.

I paid £60 in total for three nights accommodation and Mariposa was excellent excellent value.

These apartments are in a really good location, a couple of minutes walk and you start hitting the bars and nightclubs, Pacha being the nearest. This is a great location for young people. I was travelling with 2 children. The apartments are very clean and I think paying the 150 euro deposit helps. It is a concrete jungle the area and the apartments, but once your in the apartment they are fully furnished and plenty of crockery (although I didn't cook) and bright. We visited Port Adventura and the bus is less than 2 euro's each from the bottom of the road. Superb, I recommend paying on the bus not at a booth as you do pay slightly more. The pool is shaded but you can chase the sun during the day round it. Not many sunbeds and they do not sit up. Only complaint which is huge, if your with children is gaining a key!!!!! I booked with Travel Republic who gave me an emergency number for a man called David and he did arrange for someone to meet us but this could be a very frustrating and annoying start to your holiday. Loved the bars near the beach and had great ribs at Uncle Sam's Diner. The rooms are not very soundproof and you can hear the road and bar outside, probably worse when all the teenagers get there! Tv with a couple of English Channels. Would go again but not in main season..
