“Great family holiday, Hotel and Staff”
Reviewed July 23, 2013

Stayed here in June and had an absolutely wonderful time with the family -
Rooms/bathrooms are very spacious, clean and comfortable with towels changed whenever you want. LCD TV in all with basic UK channels.
The staff all go the extra mile to help out and the reps are great at what they do - get both the kids and adults involved.
Closely located to the beach, shops and bars.
Three pools which are a treat.
Meals were good, especially the breakfasts.

Highly recommended!

I was a bit nervous about this before we went, but I needn't have worried. We went mid July and it was perfect for us. Silent air conditioning, lovely big balcony and v nice v clean suite. Kitchenette very basic (microwave, kettle and fridge, though) but we were on all inclusive, so we only used the fridge and kettle for our baby's food. We had our seven month old and it was perfect for her. Lovely sturdy cot, with sheets, and her own room with blackout curtain.

Activites/pool
Pool area was fantastic with lots of shade if you wanted, or sun.. There were activities for all ages and the thomson reps are fantastic! They never seemed to tire! Lots of parasols, and although some people did to down to get sunbeds as soon as the outside area was cleaned (and it's been claimed it's a German trait!).. We didn't and there were always plenty of beds with parasols which was lovely. There's a soft play room for babies, and we used the crèche one evening and went out for a meal. There are loads of activities you could book your kids into which looked fantastic- whew would go back when our little one is a bit older, and she'd have a ball. But the reps organise loads of free things too. There's also a family room where you can use a steriliser and things.

Staff
The reception staff were brilliant. Always super helpful. In fact, it's the staff that make this hotel. It's as if during interviewing each staff member, they sent a child into the interview room and watched how they responded- cleaners, bar staff, everyone in the dining room- they were all sooooo child friendly. Amazing. Ana in the dining room was a delight, but everyone was lovely.

Food/drink
We went all inclusive and it was totally worth it- cava for free! The menu in the dining room has a list of drinks, and it tells you which are on AI, and the menu in the bar has the same- sangria for free, beer and loads else. The food had the most amazing salad bar, and lovely fresh cooked meat or fish at every meal. Massive breakfast with pancakes and omelettes cooked fresh, then fruit and croissants and cereal. They have themed food nights, such as a fish evening, cheese evening etc. they also have burgers and chips, and a kids area of food. They also had loads of puddings and fruit.

Location
It's about a ten minute walk to the town beach past supermarkets and the market and shops etc. the beach is lovely- parasols for hire, showers and toilet and free wifi that is faster than the hotel lobby. We went slightly further afield and found a quieter beach which was also lovely. We spend one day atone Lumiere beach club and it was amazing. 20 euros for a day- access to 9 pools , two of which are specially for babies, towels available, and amazing location and service and beautiful gardens and overlooking the sea. Made us feel very glamorous for a day! Possibly the most beautiful location imaginable.

Overall
If you don't have kids, this probably isn't the place for you. I imagine if you were on a low floor the noise in the evening from the entertainment would be quite noisy, but we found it fine. It's a 3* hotel with 5* staff. It is super family friendly with fantastic pool and location for everything. Pushchair (and wheelchair) friendly hotel. Go all inclusive, as then you have access to everything and the selection of drinks, snacks and ice creams is amazing, easily worth the extra money. I think it would depend a lot on other guests, but we had a wonderful holiday and everyone (staff and other guests) was really great. Amazing holiday. Well be back!

We stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks half board. When we booked it was all good reviews but I was a bit apprehensive before we went due to some bad comments
We needn't of worried, the transfer from the airport was easy, 20mins max, checking in at reception was fine...I can't believe some people moan about having to wait 15mins! Especially when there are lots to check in.
We had a pool view, intact we were on the first floor overlooking the kids pool and could hop over the wall to the decking area. The rooms are lovely, recently refurbished, one bedroom with twin beds and a double bed by kitchen area.
The kitchen is tiny but most people staying HB or AI so not really a problem but some glasses and cutlery might have been nice. Only 2 cups and spoons in room, but that is our only critisism.
Flat screen tv in lounge and bedroom with English tv like bbc, itv, channel four and disney jnr.
Large terraces/balconies. Rooms were cleaned every day if you wanted it, towels changed every few days and beds probably weekly. We didn't think the beds were uncomfortable, but only one thin pillow but I'm sure reception would provide more if needed. There is only one mirror- in bathroom but there are hair dryers in rooms and free air con!

The food was really nice, I was worried when reviews said it was just chips and fried foods, yeah there is that every night, but there is also a roast most days, vegetables, casseroles, fish and paella as well as spaghetti bolognese most nights. There is also a massive salad and fruit section and 2 choices of soup.
We ate at the poolside bar for toasties or sandwiches occasionally which were ok.

Onto the pools, there are 3, a kids one with slides, a bigger one and another kids one outside our room on the upper decking. There is an indoor one too but dont think it got used much. People are whining about the queue for beds, we went to b'fast one, owning about 8am and people were waiting to put towels out but there weren't that many waiting at that point. And even after 10am there were some beds available but space is a bit restricted at that point. However, the kids pool by us was never full and beds were often available all day.
There is constant entertainment around the pool from 11am with aquarobics, Water polo, kids competitions, killer pool/darts etc. so it is noisy because music is playing all day. In the afternoon it's volleyball or football for the adults and then the quiz when you can win a bottle of cava.

Jonni Rocks, disco Danni and shutapp shaneece are brilliant, I don't know where they get their energy, they are hilarious with kids and adults, day and night. The kids disco tea time live is great for little ones and then there are usually variety of shows at 10pm, Dieval, river dance, Michael Jackson, Beijing acrobats were some of the better ones.
Kids club is great, 10-12 & 1.30-3.30 most days except thurs, our daughter loved there's especially super Shaun and iced gem.

The reps are friendly enough, Jonny bravo and the others are there daily, never pushy to sell excursions. We went on the downhill bike riding, a mini bus takes you up into the mountains and then you cycle (mostly without effort) down the hill and then they take you up another. Our 4yr old loved it, we also did the cruising the costa boat trip, on a Sunday they have some of the kids reps on board so they played treasure hunts and made pirate hats and face painting. The sea was quite choppy tho so not good for those who get sea sick or morning sickness as I did!

We were sad to leave and I'd definitely recommend this place, about 5mins to main strip, 10mins stroll to beach but uphill on way there if you take direct route but flatter if you walk down Main Street first. all the staff including cleaners, waiters, bar staff, reception and particularly Ana in restaurant, that woman is amazing, I never saw her have a day off! I've been to Spain a few times & was made to feel unwelcome but these people are the friendliest bunch around.

Room Tip: It is noisy at night if you go to bed before the show ends, ESP if located near reception on first f...

The bad first ... This is not a 4* hotel and try to avoid getting a room on the first floor as the noise from the night time entertainment (starts at 8pm) is very loud - woke our sleeping children! The noise from the road if your on the side of the hotel us loud too as its the main road out of the town so from 5am onwards the partygoers are just coming home - very noisily! Unfortunately not only were we on the first floor, we were on the side too.

Now the good .. The staff are undoubtedly 5* staff . They are helpful, friendly, great with the children and nothing is too much trouble. Sweets and chocolate appear from their pockets like magic & into your children's hands. They are playful with them and always chatty; our 4yr old boy loved every second of it. They located our sons missing teddy (went for a wash with the bedding!) & were very calm and efficient helping us get to the medical centre with our 10month old baby when she was ill. To say the staff made the holiday good doesnt do them justice, they are outstanding.

Rooms are clean and well equipped . Clean towels/bedding daily and rooms cleaned by 12 every day.

Can't complain over the food .. Buffets in hotels are the same everywhere - there's a bit of everything and how you build your meal is your choice . There's a wide range; salads, pasta, roast dinners, fast food, vegetables, AMAZING ribs, steak, kids buffet, fruit & bread etc .

Probably wouldn't return with children due to the noise at night .. Unless I could pick my room!

Stayed here with 4 children aged from 1 to 8 and they loved it as did the adults. The location is great short walk to market beach shops and port aventura. Great food entertainment service and rooms. TIP don't go to port aventura until after lunch it is much quieter then and not so hot also the park is open till midnight so plenty of time to see everything.
Cannot fault the hotel and have a special thank you to Ana in the restaurant and the reception staff for the kids inflatables and the pool view rooms
We have already booked for two weeks next June and are excited already

Just got back from a fantastic 7 night stay at the Golden Avenida Salou and we are already looking at booking to go back next year. This hotel is amazing for kids they really can not do enough for you. My 5 year old son absolutely loved the kids club he's never been in them before but was begging to go back as they had sweet/chocolate parties, bowling nights, sports days etc.. He loved it especially Jackie Chan and Super Shaun there. The entertainment was brilliant and such good fun there was something to do all day and night we were never bored, Jonni Rocks the main entertainer was absolutely hilarious we couldn't praise him enough he always managed to make everyone smile adults and kids and was a really nice guy.
We had a 1 bedroom suite which was lovely kids had there own bedroom with flat screen tv and channels like Disney junior etc.. They were modern and nice and clean. Food was nice too a little bit repetitive but that's what you get everywhere at all inclusive buffets the choice was great and if the kids had there own buffet area too with things like chips, chicken nuggets, hotdogs, spaghetti etc.. All inclusive drinks were great too they included branded alcohol such as Smirnoff.
We had a fantastic holiday and can't wait to come back.

Room Tip: Book a suite :)
