“Dodgy beds”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2013

Hotel room was clean with plenty of wardrobe space. It probably could have done with a bit of updating as it was just as I remembered it from seven years ago. However, I didn't remember the beds being so uncomfortable. The mattress was so hard that I didn't have a full night's sleep the whole week. What made it worse was that it was really stuffy as the air conditioning wasn't on (only on in summer months). Hotel food quite good but could get repetitive if you were staying for more than a week. Lovely big pool but so cold you'd have to be very hardy to go in. The same went for the water park. You could eat in the park too which was a really good idea. Park itself very good and only a 15-20minute walk from Salou.

Room Tip: Our room was in the main block overlooking the entertainment area. The entertainment finished by 11p...

We arrived back on June 7th after staying 9 nights at the El Paso. There was 3 generations of our family on this holiday so we had to make sure there was something for everyone. Here goes!
1. Speedy check in despite the fact that there was a lot of facts, cards and general info to be
given out.
2. The rooms (2 connecting ones) were compact and clean. We didn't find any problems getting
to sleep at night and the mattresses were to our liking.
3. The meals were very good and there was something for everyone to enjoy. Fare enough you
had to queue up but at busy times this is to be expected.
4. The pool area was excellent and our grandchildren really enjoyed the pirate ship in the
children's pool.
5. The lunches at the pool bar were excellent. You could get your beers/juice/ice cream here and
stronger drinks at the pool bar on the opposite side.
6. The hotel is right next door to Portadventura so you can walk to the theme park or wait for the
small train to take you there.
7. You can also get a free 3 course meal at the park by using the vouchers you get when you
check in which saves 16.90 Euros each and get free drinks when you refill the long plastic
drinks containers which you can buy for 2.50 euros at the hotel.
8. Our family really enjoyed the theme park; there was something for everyone but be careful
because they are really strict with height restrictions on some of the rides.
9. Entertainment in the hotel at night: a mini disco which all the children enjoyed and then
entertainment later on for the adults and older children to participate in.
10. A free bus takes you into Salou a few times a day and also the train from Portaventura so
you don't feel isolated.
If you want a hotel which is truly all-inclusive and no deposit required (i.e. pool towels, safe, tv remote control), this place is for you. There is also free Wii in the lobby area and comfy seats to sit, relax and catch up on things in the outside world. Self Service coffee/tea are available 24 hours a day. Paper cups are provided but take a cup from the dining room to use if you want to.
Don't expect to be waited on hand and foot, be prepared to queue in the high season, let you children make new friends and enjoy themselves and you'll have an amazing time; we certainly did!!

Rooms very clean and plenty of wardrobe space but hard beds meant didn't have full night`s sleep the whole week. It also didn't help that the air conditioning wasn't on. They only switch it on in the summer months which meant it was really stuffy in the room at night. Food was quite good and entertainment fair. The best thing really was the close location to the park which was really worth visiting.

Room Tip: We stayed in the main building with a view over the entertainment area which was fine as it finished...

Four adults, four children, 24 months, five, seven and eight.

Location- In a very good location with theme park only an easy walk away. Salou is more than 15 minutes away as suggested in the brochure, there is a free bus from 10:00am/12:00 and 16:00/18:00 and also a train costing 3 euros each a taxi is about 10 euros. The hotel would have nothing to offer in the way of activities if the Porto Ventura Park and Aqua Park was not close by, I will comment on this below. Being so close to the coast this causes a windy atmosphere for most of the day.
Theme Park - Some of the rides are not accessible to the children because of size, and some of them were shut due to weather. On a positive note the children and adults did enjoy some of the other rides. The park opens at eleven but popular rides are nearly all two hours waiting how this is possible.
There is a themed children’s park Sesamo Aventura but age of my children they were disappointed in some of the rides as they were not like the rides in the park. The Sesame Show was poor as they did not sound like any of the characters and not one song in English. Bang Bang show is excellent and we all enjoyed this.

The outdoor swimming pool and the children’s pool, none of the children would go in as the pool was cold no FREEZZING and any attempt to encourage them was met by a refusal to enter the water. This is an integral part of our holiday after a hard day at the Theme park, you just want to relax and swim in the pool. On one day during the holiday they closed the children’s pool for maintenance on the sunken ship “Painting” One morning we were awakened at 8:00am with what sounded like scraping on the wall, this was the maintenance crew re-decorating the hallway. They have been closed in the winter why was this not completed then.

The hotel boasts a Children’s Club CampoAventura and activities throughout the day and evening; these are none existent during the day other than at 17:00hrs Christina will attempt to get a game of Volley Ball instigated but only ever asked the same people. The only activities for my children are the park and the Air Hockey, Pool and Table Tennis but you have to pay for these. The evening activity with Christina starts at 21:15hrs and finishes at 22:00 hrs., this consists of a mini disco that the children themselves do all the dancing and they are repetitious as Christina only knows about five songs, any attempt to introduce a new song falls on deaf ears. You then are subjected to Woody Woodpecker on the odd night . All who watch have to endure a stone seat that is most uncomfortable and as the weather was cold and windy this further causes the striking cold through your body.

Buffer Merida buffet style is basic food that is very repetitious, they do have theme nights but run out of some of the menu quite early. The breakfast consists of chips I repeat chips, eggs that are sometimes burnt on the edges and the yoke is raw, bacon that is swimming in grease, also very fatty and beans you shout hoorah if you find a bean it is all juice, small frankfurter sausages and a variety of other sausages. We waited thirty minutes on one occasion to be seated for dinner when clearly there were empty tables, in my opinion this was designed to slow service down so the servers and chefs could catch up. “BEWARE SOME OF THE SERVING SPOONS ARE RED HOT” On a more positive note the cold buffet was of a better quality with varying meats and salads on offer.

We tried and book the El Coyote on the Monday but only slot available was 21:00hrs too late for our children but after complaining to the Thomas Cook rep” Gemma Adams and the hotel Manager” Abigail” ,they did organise a suitable time slot” RESULT”. The meals available in the park which we tried were the La Cantina and Jeremiahs Food. La Cantina was like a cattle market and by the time you have organised your food and gone through the extensive process to the tills “Giving them your pass card having your meal card stamped and signing all the till receipts” the food is cold. Jeremiahs Food was a little quicker but eating on the benches the wind was blowing and all the cups and plates ended up on the floor and were again food was cold.
The rep Gemma Adams was very helpful in organising an appointment with the hotel manager, who did say will sort things and feedback to us. She did not do this but did offer a complimentary bottle of wine. Gemma answers were robotic and she did not tell the holiday makers at the meeting about any activities in the hotel and was only interested in getting you to book trips costing an arm and a leg when you have already paid top dollar for the holiday.
