“Calypso Hotel April 2013”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 26, 2013

Just got back from a 2 night all inclusive stay at the calypso, arrived at 10.30 and were given our rooms straight away, due to it being quiter time of year we did not have to wait until 14.00 for our rooms to be ready.
The hotel is very large and all public areas were very clean, reception staff very friendly, bar staff are ok, a lot better with the spanish (as expected), Dining room staff were fine.

The food was a bit hit and miss i thought although i am a fussy eater, the evening meals were the best, but thats just my opinion.

Entertainment was ok, animation team work very hard both day and night.

Location of the hotel was ok only a 10 min walk to bars, the main bars 007, bus stop etc are probably a 20 min walk. Lovely little beach up the hill not far from hotel.

I imagine this hotel would be very good for brits in the summer.

While we were there it was full of spanish pensioners and lots of school trips.

Would return to this hotel but not in April.

Room Tip: Lower floor rooms walls like paper, you hear everything from bar below.

Stayed here end of oct 2012 as our 20th year together, both in our 30s, was gutted we didnt take our 4 children as everythink about this hotel & location is 110%, so returning this year in sept with our 4 children, dont go by the ranks, we took the kids to villa marina where our son had to have his stomach pumped as he slipped into the adult pool which is right next to the kiddie pool , which was tiny, and had broken fencing to seperate them, also went to festival village which is ranked about 4th which was terrible, bad location and not ideal for kids, entertainment consids of watching a dvd, i have told everyone to go calypso hotel its amazing, kids club is they go into the games room where they will be locked in securely for 2 hrs playing on all the arcade games, kids pools away from adults and great outdoor night activity on the stage for them, then great adult entertainment, dont be fooled by the reviews, go there and see what your missing.plus for the adlts complemtry bottle of wine, plus if your on hand luggage only theres hairdryers, shower gel and shampoo in all the rooms

I stayed at the Hotel Calypso from the 10th to the 13th of April on a school language trip to Spain. Before the trip I was quite sceptical about the hotel and food from reading past reviews on trip advisor however overall I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at the hotel. The front desk staff were rude and very unhelpful to my teacher who had organised the trip as they would not change two rooms of four for three rooms of three as there was an uneven number of year 11 girls. This issue was not resolved. The lobby area with free wifi was clean and used by many of the students to keep in touch with their families during the trip.

We stayed in the calypso 2 block with all of my school on one floor, the rooms were for four people sharing however the rooms were so cramped that we could hardly walk around the beds which had been all pushed together to make one large bed. On top of this there was nowhere to store our cases due to the room being so small however the wardrobe space was an ample size for four girls sharing. The balcony was a good size and was used for drying our towels throughout the stay. The bathroom had a broken shower which could not hang on the wall due to the attachment being broken however overall the shower was very good and the bathroom was a good size. Overall the room was dated and cramped however was liveable for the amount of time we spent in it and the beds were very comfortable.

The food at the hotel was nothing special and we spent most days living on chips or carbohydrates. The spanish omelette was very nice one night however generally it was luke warm and watery. The puddings were very good and had a selection of things each night. In the morning the breakfast was the same everyday with a small selection of meats and cheese, full english or continental. Rudy, a waiter at the hotel was very nice and helpful.

The pool areas at the hotel were very good and enjoyed by many of the students, there was also a games room which was used and there was entertainment most night in the apple bar.

The location of the hotel was a good base to stay at, the theme park is very close by and is definitely worth a visit. Barcelona is a beautiful city and Park Guell and La Sagrada Familia were very enjoyable. However Salou itself is made for tourists and has no sense of culture.

The hotel is better than the reviews make out and is great for large groups however the food was average and the room size was not adequate for the amount of people sharing; overall we had a great time and will be returning to spain in the future.

Hotel has all the facilities needed to enjoy a holiday in Salou . Went AI in March 2013 with a total of 12 poeple and all had a good time. The food at dinner wasnt brilliant but i guess it was the time of year as it improved in the last day or two when the hotel got busier. The night time entertainment was all in spanish too with locals coming into the hotel to dance, No real involvement for the kids..... again i think it was the time of year.
The drinks were excellent for all inclusive and crisps and pizzas could also be eaten in between meals.Wifi in the bar and lobby is excellent for all gadget loving families.Rooms were comfortable and clean , Calypso 2 block had more modern rooms.Pools were lovely altough a bit cold in March.Train to portaventura just outside hotel door 3euro adult 1.50kid.I wouldnt recomend getting it back though as it takes about 40 minutes and the hotel is around the last stop i think ! Same with Plana Bus from Reus....It goes to Camrils and all stop in between before it drops you near the Calypso.Great for going back to Reus though, quick and painless !Playa Cappelans in just straight up the hill outside the hotel , turning right about half way up the hill,
This hotel had all the facilities for a great stay and i would definately stay again.

We decided to stay in Salou for a week as i wanted to visit the Nou camp for my 18th birthday.. When we arrived we were greeted by friendly English/Spanish speaking staff which was very helpful. When we arrived in our rooms they were spotlessly clean. A bit dated and could do with a re decorating. Pool clean, not a great deal of sun beds but that wasn't really a problem as we got up early and reserved them. Food was great different choices everyday (i would advise all inclusive) different Entertainment every night (Greece, Mama Mia, Dirty dancing, Micheal Jackson) a mini disco every night for the kids, Really enjoyed this hotel and can't see why anybody wouldn't.

Had a week in September 2012 at this Hotel with my partner and our baby. Stayed All inclusive hotel was clean and tidy, plenty of food choices something different everyday. Bars open early till late, grill bar open most of the day so snacks available all day. Staff where all freindly, Hotel is in a ideal location just around the corner are the shops and a 5 minute walk to the beach.
I would recommend this Hotel to anyone thinking of booking a holiday in Salou, as i would definatley be going back in the near future.
