4R Salou Park Resort I
Ranked #24 of 93 Hotels in Salou
Reviewed May 28, 2014

we have recently returned from a 10 night stay at this hotel. Prior to arrival we did the google street view thing and decided to pay extra for a sea view. On arrival we were the only 2 getting off the coach and was told there was no jet2 rep based in the hotel. we were allocated room 700, on exiting the lift on the 7th floor we walked out onto another small lobbly that just had one card opening door. on opening the door we stepped out onto the private deck of six penthouse apartments!! the west view was looking over ( your king of the castle up here!!) north salou, port aventura , Reus, and airport in far distance. on entering the room you become aware that this is more than your average hotel room, more boutique, huge bed, twin washbasins, sunken jacuzzi tub,wet room shower, etched glass walls, flatscreen tv, free minibar, east facing private sundec with twin sunloungers, chairs and table, views over the pool, pool bar and beach. We had the top floor to ourselves and because the hotel was only 10 % full had instant access to the lifts. The majority of other guests were retired spannish who were out on trips all day so was never more that about 10 people around the pool, so quiet, no kids even. we always like a couple of sundowners and the end table by pool became ours for rest of holidays around 18.30. the waiter called Robinson is one of the best in the business and always has time fir a chat, we even met his family!!, so Ice cold san miguel in frosted glasses was served upon arrival each night. I cannot emphasise enough how spotlessly clean this hotel is, not even a discarded cigarette end, no bad language or behaviour but thats prob because there were hardly any brits staying there!! I f you fancy a drink in a little spannish bar just head over the road and down a few steps to the large terrace and Juan will serve the coldest drinks around, with olives thrown in !!. I cannot comment on other rooms in the hotel as was too amazed by ours but you may be lucky enough to get it ;-)

My wife and I stayed at this Hotel early May 2014 and our first impression was really positive. We were met by a lovely helpful receptionist and were told that our room was ready, even thought we'd arrived earlier than the booking in time. The Room was excellent and clean with a pleasant sea view.
The pool is small but adequate enough and if you order food or drinks then the bar staff with come and serve you at the pool side.
Unfortunately though, we found the food served in the restaurant the same almost every night and not a great deal of choice. Sliced beef, chips, chicken, pizza, pork, pasta etc, and of course a selection of salad. Very samey and uninteresting. So much so my wife and I ate out 3 nights of our 7 night stay.
Another issue we had was there was a very very rude receptionist we dealt with one day. My wife was trying to ask her about a coach excursion that could be provided by the hotel. After trying to get her attention by saying 'excuse me' for the 3rd time, she eventually looked up from her computer screen frowning and when asked about the trip we interested in she rudely tapped ( banged really) a file that was on the reception counter indicating we should look at that. It was details of how to arrange an airport transfer to the hotel and in no way helpful as to what we were asking her about!
In the end my wife just gave up and we booked the same trip from the Bus Plana tour office around the corner.
We don't know this receptionists name but she has thick blonde shoulder length hair. Unless you're Eastern European, who she seems to prefer talking to, I suggest you steer clear of asking her help. Not a nice person at all and someone who badly lets down the image of the Hotel.
All in all it was a pleasant stay. A nice hotel, lovely room, but let down by a poor choice of food in restaurant and an extremely rude receptionist.

Room Tip: Choose a sea view room as the view is fantastic.

“Firstly thank you on behalf of the whole staff and on my own for choosing our hotel for your stay these past days.
We regret that the food was not of your liking; meanwhile we take into account your comments to do it best for the next time.
In addition, we apologize for your incident in reception. I personally reprimand this wrong behavior just not having any more situations like this one. Your holidays must be something to enjoy from your arrival at the hotel till the departure time. And our staff must be pleasant and helpful.

We sincerely thank you have dedicated a few minutes of your time and have sent us your opinions. Each of your comments helps us to improve our services and meet the needs of our customers.

This hotel was excellent value with good food and well appointed rooms. The only let down was the very rude receptionist.
We were put I a room with a dreadful odour, it could have been the drain in the bathroom, we complained and to the credit of the hotel they immediately sent on. Cleaner to try to deal without. After a day the smell was back so we complained again and asked for another room. The receptionist was very rude but did comply.
We enjoyed the meals and found the bar prices reasonable.

If you read my other reviews you'll see I spend a lot of time in hotels & restaurants, mostly for business travel so taking a moment to write this review of our first package holiday hopefully gives an insight to what this hotel & area have to offer.

The reviewer that described this hotel as a good 3 star hits the nail on the head, it's nicely presented with good facilities, pleasant helpful staff, and a varying choice of food.

Ironically we stayed in the same room (605) as the previous reviewer for exactly the week after them, the room is OK, it was cleaned daily and finished to a reasonable standard, a safe was available for €3.50 a day + €10 euro deposit, worthwhile for the peace of mind for me as we could leave valuables & passports in the hotel. There were 4 single beds with 2 pushed together, comfort wise they were better than Travelodge beds, the TV is multi lingual but mostly Spanish as you would expect, there are 2 English channels, BBC World News & CNBC, not much if you're a tv fan (I'm not) We paid for the option of a late checkout which meant we could depart at 6pm rather than 10am for an additional €30.

The hotel has a games room between the lifts & restaurant with 4 pool tables, 2 air hockey tables and some dated video games machines, adjacent to the lobby are 4 pay computers, the wifi suffers from capacity issues at peak times and signal issues dependant on your room, rooms at the front get better signal as the antennae are better positioned, at the rear of the building reception in the rooms at the edges of the hotel is patchy, better on the balcony.

There are pools at the front and rear of the hotel, these are unheated so we only used them a few times as they were quite cold at the end of October, as the hotel only gets sun on the front most people used the front pool. The beach is only a couple of hundred metres away so we tended to head there.

We stayed half board & found the selection varied & mostly of good quality, the main dishes changed each night with a nice selection of salads, soups & veg each night. The chef cooks some of the meat dishes at the counter which is a nice touch, we found at breakfast the processed 'bacon', processed sausages and scrambled eggs quite low quality so avoided these, there were plenty of other choices.

We tried to book an excursion to Barcelona but out of season this wasn't running so we took advice from hotel staff and caught the train from the old town, this is a 25 minute walk away and cost just €61 for a family of 4 taking 1h40, the last station in Barcelona - Estacio de Franca is the easiest to navigate if you're nervous of public transport, we mostly walked around but jumped on the Metro for €2 per journey for the longer stretches, on return to Salou a taxi back to the hotel cost just €7.

Another highlight of the area is Portaventura, at this time of year it's fairly quiet, we got on most rides with either no queue or at worst 20 minutes, a bit of web scouring before going revealed a BOGOF offer on Chupa Chups packets. A taxi from the hotel cost €6 to the path near the entrance & €12 to get back from the main car park which was quite a bit further by road.

At the rear of the hotel there are a few shops, a pharmacy and a Burger King, if you turn left at the Burger King this takes you along a parade of shops to the main strip of Salou, alternatively at the front of the hotel if you walk down the steps to the beach there is a raised walkway to the main Salou promenade.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms get a view, to the front is a sea view and the sun, to the rear is either another buil...

We stayed here 19th Oct - 26th Oct, we knew we were coming out of season and didnt know what to expect- here goes...
The Hotel is in a great position, just across the road from a small picturesque beach and 20min walk from the main Levant beach. A supermarket just down the side of the Hotel and a 24hour pharmacy on the street behind (although not open 'out of season').
The hotel is very clean with nice reception, bar and pool areas.
The pool at the front has sun all day but no umbrellas for shade, the pools at the back are beautiful but in the shade from 10am onwards and since none of the pools are heated, it was a bit too cold to use in Oct although a couple did brave the front pool on occassion.
The rooms are nice (605) obviously recently refurbished as modern decor throughout, did have hair dryer and large flat screen TV although no english channels. We have two children under two and requested a cot, no cot was provided but had option of paying for one. The bathroom was spacious with two sinks and a double walk in shower but there was also no bath which was a little tricky with the little ones.
Food here is not great there are chips or wedges every night with a different meat or fish being cooked in front of you however, the raw meat before being cooked did not look fresh at all-beef was brown/black and chicken was yellowy orange. There was paella every night but looked a if it had been prepared an hour before as it was very dry and broke away in blocks. We were full board and noticed the salads (some containing mayo and fish) after being out for the lunch hour with flies around it, were cling filmed and put back out for the evening buffet.
Breakfast was fine, the usual cooked stuff and fresh fruits, pastries etc.
Entertainment is fine, a different man with his keyboard every night. I asked as there seemed to be a different group of OAP Spaniards each night dancing ballroom here, this time of year, there are bus tours for different OAP clubs and ths hotel is one of the destinations.
As mentioned by others there do seem to be a lot of Russians and Dutch at this hotel they don't shape my holiday at all apart from being a bit grumpy and unwilling to hold doors after passing through or smile.

Salou itself is lovely for all ages, beautiful beaches, plenty of shops, fabulous restaurants and lively night life. I wouldn't hesitate to come back to Salou but maybe to another hotel (Marinada) and maybe a week earlier to catch the bars and other entertainment sites before they all close for the winter.

Room Tip: Front of hotel provides stunning beach & pool views, back of hotel provides views of other pool...

my wife and her sister stayed at this hotel and she don't have a bad word to say about it. the rooms were just enough, the maids cleaned everyday between breakfast and lunch. the room facitlites were good. the reception area of the hotel was great , the food in the restaurant was brilliant. it was always streaming hot. the waitresses were really friendly and clean up well and made the place look tidy. the beach was a 2 second walk away which was good. the night life of salou was just a short walk away, and you could not even hear it from the hotel which would be good if you had young children. the kids club looked fun the amount of activities they had for the kids to do was great. the staff were great the bar staff were really friendly and helpful which made our stay at hotel salou park brilliant. the entertainment in the hotel was amazing, the amount of different shows they had to offer us was brilliant. the entertainer was so sweet, he made my week :) . the pool area was clean and tidy, the bar staff came and delivered your drink to your sunbed which was brilliant. overall she didn't have a bad word to say about this hotel. except for one thing my wife is disabled and on arrival no one came to help with her bags, maybe the hotel can sort this out she will defiantly book to go again next year it was fantastic. i she love this hotel and will be somewhere she will be going each year.and would recommend to anyone

i dont know which hotel all these other people have been going to but its not this one.

Room Tip: try the red lion just around the corner good night out
