Festival Village
Ranked #11 of 93 Hotels in Salou
Reviewed October 10, 2013

My partner and I stayed here from 30th September - 7th October. After a lot of searching online for a well recommended hotel, we decided on the Festival Village, Salou. The hotel certainly lived up to it's reviews, we had a fantastic time and wouldn't hesitate recommended this place to anyone.

Rooms/Apartments:
We had a 1 bed apartment for a 7 night stay all-inclusive and it was massive! We couldn't ask for any more space, with a double balcony across the living room/bedroom. The rooms were all very clean, well maintained with plenty of furniture. Even basic essentials, cutlery, plates and cups - even more important for some TV on tap (with 3 UK Channels) without additional charge, alongside fantastic Air Conditioning (also included within the price).

Location:
This place is about a 35 minute walk to the center of Salou, however La Pineda was only 10 minutes away, and also situated within a 10 minute walk of 3 or 4 beaches. Their is also a bus service which runs every 10 minutes directly outside the hotel for €2.15 each way in and out of Salou.

Staff:
Extremely friendly, always happy to help and go the extra mile. A massive thank you to all of them during our time their. The entertainment teams works throughout the day and night to keep the guests entertained, and adult entertainment is provided at 10pm every night for those who want to stay in the hotel for the evening. A special mention to Ollie who was fantastic - he did a Michael Buble night and was by far one of the best evenings of the week - Thank You! (X-Factor would snap him up!)

Food:
Always very important at an all-inclusive venue - the food here is fantastic. I am a picky eater at the best of times and like good quality, tasty food. I definitely got that here. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner is provided every day, help yourself unlimited buffet style, with a snack bar operating from 10am-10pm. We even were treated to a Sunday Lunch before we left so couldn't ask for more. Their is something for everyone and the staff are always happy to assist.

Summary:
Overall, a fantastic venue and great value for money. Catering to individuals, couples and families there's something for everyone. Don't hesitate to book here - it's a great hotel that cares about their guests.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel are quieter. If you want to be close the the pool, ask to be at the...

I will review this hotel as honest as possible.

Staff:
Excellent, cannot fault them, work so hard and always smiling, Fidel was always laughing and joking with us (he called me MR Estrella) Ivanio the manager is a top bloke, always there to say hi and welcomes you on arrival, i injured my toe and he got me some ice to get the bruising out. Chef always topping up food and the waiters/waitress always cleaning up.

Rooms: Very basic, we got ITV and BBC on the tv, beds a bit hard but a few beers helps :)

Entertainment: Great team with Michael (the Oldham fan), Ollie, Ella, Charlotte and Amy, but one problem is the Mikes were to loud when the singers were on so you couldnt hear them properly (im a DJ and it bugged me)

Drinks and Food: All great, so many choices even for the fussy eater.

Other Guests: Many were ignorant, loud and disrespectfull to others but thats not the hotels fault.

Location: 10 mins down the hill to La Pineda, excellent beach on there and a few shops, Aquopolis waterpark is amazing, also Nou Camp, go to the red boxes as its cheaper than the rep. Salou about an hour walk if you take the coastel route (few steps along the way)

Thanks to all at Festival village and see you next year

:)

For the 'target market' this is probably a decent low cost all inclusive hotel, but I was sucked into a last minute deal by the 10th place ranking out of all hotels in the area. Let me assure you if this hotel is 10th out of over 100 hotels then there must be some real hell holes knocking around Salou. The dress code for the dining room is "please remember to wear a top", this comment sets expectations for the hotel nicely.

Its a very family orientated hotel which is fine, but we deliberately travelled outside of school holidays to avoid lots of children. Term time does not appear to mean anything to the guests of this hotel.

Staff - Great, really friendly and couldn't do enough for you, I couldn't fault them.

Food - A little repetitive but very tasty.

Rooms - Extremely basic, run down, ours had no electricity In the bedroom on the first few days and an utterly appalling smell coming from the sewerage system, this was not due to the item we found floating in the toilet on our arrival. The hotel manager was fantastic, he offered us an upgrade to a room that didn't smell like a sewer when one became available which sadly happened to be 2 days before we left. We also had a ground floor apartment so the balcony was a little useless unless you enjoy a constant flow of people wandering past and staring at you. The TV varies from room to room, we had 2 channels which was 1 more than a lot of people we spoke to. Finally, if you expect basics like a safe, an iron, a hair dryer etc these are classed as luxury items and need to be hired at a daily rate.

Pool - Way too small for a hotel of that size. The hotel has 200 rooms but i'd be surprised if you could get more than 50 people around it. (I didn't recognize the hotel in the professional photos as the pool looks massive but it really isn't)

The main thing that lets this hotel down is the other guests. The hotel markets itself as a low cost all inclusive, therefore the type of clientele is of the chav nature. This was a real let down for us as we couldn't enjoy a nice drink without over hearing couples arguing and children generally running around uncontrolled and unsupervised. Not really ideal when you're after a peaceful, lie by the pool sort of holiday.

To sum it up..... I actually feel a bit sorry for this hotel, with a bit of investment and a change in customer base, it could be good. Unfortunately the hotel seems to be making the most of what it has, and what it has is most definitely not for me. There is absolutely no chance that I would ever return to this hotel.

I am likely to sound like a snob with this review but i assure you we are a very normal middle class family. We were 2 adults, a 3 year old and infant.

The other reviews are pretty accurate and we didn't expect much as this is a very low cost all inclusive.

The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout. The food choice is good-if you are selective and go for the obviously fresh cooked non processed stuff. The drinks are obviously non branded and some are pretty shocking but the 'martini', 'tia maria' and gin were all alright with mixers.

The pool is small for the size of the apartments and the 90s tunes and "hello festival village" announcements were not particularly relaxing. We discovered 6 beaches (some big and others really nice little coves) all within 20 mins walk. It is hilly in every direction so walking with a child and push chair was great for working off some of that all inclusive food!

The apartments are dated but have everything you need and expect but noise levels were a problem. This is where our biggest problem came from our stay....other uk guests. Inconsiderate, foul language, rude to hotel staff, no control over their children, spitting around the pool, throwing rubbish, slamming doors and shouting (our neighbors finished about 4am).

I think the price of this holiday is exceptional for what the hotel offers but have learnt our lesson with regard to who you are likely to share your hotel with when getting such a bargain.
