just returned from one week in the playa park hotel in salou. my wife and i took our 15 yr old daughter and her friend. we booked a double room. although clean and tidy the room was small, it was quite a struggle at times fitting us all in. that is where the negatives end though. the food was great (plenty of variety). the staff were friendly and helpful too. air con was ok as was the bathroom. certainly would stay there again, but leave the kids at home and the room would be spot on.either that or try to see if they have larger rooms. overall had a fantastic holiday, P.S. try christys irish bar on falset street , absolutley amazing . enjoy....

Well... What an absolute hole. Arrived at the hotel at around 9 at night and even then it was roasting. We were given a key that was around the size of a brick and had to be carried around with a lot of difficulty, at least there was no risk of losing it. We were told we had one of the nicest rooms in the hotel, all I can say is that I don't want to see one of the worse ones. Don't think that the room had been decorated since the 60's. At the time of our stay the humidity was around 80% and to our luck our air conditioning didn't work, we had to make do with a desk fan (which they grandly named a 'ventilator') for the first 5 days till they bothered their [--] to fix the actual air conditioning. This was horrible, I would wake at around 4 in the morning with the sweat dripping off me and would have to get a shower just to cool down, but at least i didn't have to use a towel to dry myself cause the heat dried me within about 2 seconds of getting out. As we had arrived too late for dinner they very kindly left us some disgusting sandwiches and a mouldy apple. The room was so warm we had to resort to leave the balcony door open to actually keep us alive. But this was nice as most nights we got a visit from the army of local ants which very kindly carried our rotten sandwiches away for us as the maid clearly couldn't be bothered to lift them. We were also only left with one pillow for our double bed which was around 5 foot long (this was good for pillow fights as you could probably kill a man with the size of this thing). One nice thing about the room was that it had a huge balcony, it even had two sunbeds and provided a nice view of the 2ft by 5ft pool which got sun for around 30 seconds a day! WOW! Anyway, enough about our gorgeous room, now onto the wonderful food! :D yum yum yum.. Oh no wait, you wouldn't serve this food to your worst enemy (or the hundreds of stray cats that hang outside the front of the hotel and which are jumping with fleas). We had to live off bread for dinner (which was very nicely left out since breakfast) and watermelon. The lifts in the hotel were great as you only had to wait 35 minutes before it actually came for you! :D and when you finally got in the boiling hot lift it stopped off at every floor on the way to the top. Another thing about the hotel was the terrifying kid that seemed to be in the lift everytime we were in it and stared me in the eyes. Think of the creepy twins from the shining, that's what he was like. Well anyway, Apart from all that there wasn't much else wrong with the hotel, and the maid did a good job of scooping up the dead ants

Just returned after spending a week at playa park hotel. Room was lovely and clean, nice big bathroom with a large power shower. Hairdryer, towels, television and air con were all included in the room- didnt have to pay extra for air condidtioning which was great! We went on a half board basis and overall the food was really good- lots of choice for breakfast including cereals, fresh fruit, croissants and other cakes, fresh bread and toaster, cooked breakfast (bacon, sausage, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans, pancakes etc) so you could pretty much have anything you wanted for breakfast! Evening meals were ok- they did a different roast meat joint or fish each night with a range of other things like potatoes, chips, sausages rolls, pizza, cheeses, lots of salad, fresh fruit counter every night which was lovely, there was one night (tues) which wasnt so good as there wasnt as much choice and mainly chicken dishes but apart from that the food was good.
The hotel has 3 swimming pools- one main deep pool, a shallow pool for children and a baby pool- this was great for us as we had a 4 year old with us who loved playing in the pools! There are plenty of sunbeds and chairs to sit on around the pool. The pool bar sells is great for snacks, lunch, drinks and icecreams around the pool. Entertainment was hit and miss- some really good shows incl african show, playa park show and spanish dancers.
There are a choice of beaches you can go to from the hotel- we went to two of them and enjoyed the quieter one which did have a beach bar! .although it was down a huge hill- the walk there is fine but the walk back up is hard work in the heat but we thought the beach was worth it! it only takes 5-10 mins!
The main strip is a 5min walk downhill where there is a fair for the children, lots of shops, bars and restaurants and the main beach at the bottom. The hill is fine - we walked it everynight with a 4 year old!
We also visited a waterpark (Aquapolis) during our stay which was great fun for all ages- wasnt too big like some waterparks- all rides were close together. there is a nice wave pool where they also do aquazumba which was great fun! Quite a few big slides, lovely area for children and babies with lots for them to do! They also do a dolphin show everyday at 12:00 and 4:00 which was brilliant! Once you have been once you can get a ticket as you leave the park (from tourist info) to go back for a 2nd visit for just 7euros each- we did this as it was well worth the money and only a 10 mins bus journey for 2 euros from the bus stop right outside of play park hotel!

Have just returned from a week at this superb hotel in Salou-couldn't really fault anything. Very clean, rooms changed every day with fresh towels, lovely choice of food which caters for all traditions. My fussy 10 year old ate better there than at home! Pool is shaded in the morning but we spent the mornings at the beach(which are 5 mins away) and came back to the pool in the afternoon. The hotel is on the top of a road so do expect a bit of a hill but not too bad! The bus stop is outside with an excellent bus service and very helpful guides! It is a good ten minute walk to the main part of Salou but lots of shops to browse en route! Salou is very lively but more of a family resort-kids will definitely not get bored! Evening entertainment at the hotel was a bit hit and miss but out of seven nights I'd say four evenings were worth watching! All the staff were very pleasant and extremely helpful ranging from the maids to the reception staff. Lovely holiday, feel very rested and relaxed and would highly recommend this hotel and resort to anyone!!

Room Tip: Can get a little noisy at night if the room is facing the pool-a sea view may be better!

Just got home from staying at Playa Park for 2 weeks. This hotel is lovley and clean, staff really friendly and our room was super. Our balcony had a sea view which was really nice to sit and look out too. The bathroom had no bath, but a massive walk in shower which was great and a hairdyer!! We hired a fridge for 50 euros for 2 weeks which was a blessing, seen as though the weather was well over 100 degrees every day. Didnt really think much too the food, but didnt starve either (ok if you can live on chips).
The only thing I can think of having a moan about, is the horrid hill to reach the hotel. No matter which way you walk you have to face the hill, not very good in the blistering heat!!!
But this isnt the hotel's fault I suppose.

My boyfriend and I just got back from a week away in Salou and we both really enjoyed it.
The hotel is really lovely, we stayed on the 5th floor with a pool view and we were really impressed! The room was absolutely spotlessly clean, fresh clean towels every day, nice size and lovely balcony. We went on a bed and breakfast basis and found the food delicious and a huge range to choose from! The hotel staff were really helpful! Particularly the bar staff! All were extremely pleasant, friendly and welcoming. The reception staff are also very nice but one lady was a bit funny with me when I realised they'd over charge us for an excursion, but I went back the next day and it was sorted out for me there and then. The pool area is shaded all morning and up until about 1ish. I will say though, that the beds around the pool weren't cleaned regularly enough - which was a bit disappointing but the rest of the hotel was immaculate. There is no life guard even though it states on the wall by the pool that the life guard will operate everyday - this was a little annoying because for 3 days there were quite a few children diving and jumping into the pool which made it a bit awkward for people to swim and we got splashed a lot while sunbathing. The location is OK. Just outside of the hotel is the bus stop that you catch for every excursion or trip available which is brilliant. And outside to the left you will find a small bay beach which is very nice. However, to get to this particular part of the beach you need to walk down some stone steps - a LOT of steps. We only visited once as when we eventually got to the beach there were no facilities to get a drink or food. Out of the hotel to the right you can walk down to the main strip. Lots of shops and bars and restaurants to suit everybody's taste. And not too much hassle!!!! The main beach is lovely, sea is great. Water sports amazing. I will also say that if you decide to walk down the hill to the strip, the walk back up to the hotel is horrible :( some evenings when we were full up from dinner and walking in the humidity, it was unbearable! That's the ONLY thing I could honestly say I didn't like about the hotel. Entertainment team were excellent and every night from 10 they had some kind of act on stage - this was a bit hit and miss. Sometimes it was awful, others it was great. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone of any age, family, couples or groups. Just be prepared to walk uphill to get to the hotel!
