6th time back to the theme park. Every year a little less for your money but that's life. Food continues to be above average but obviously cut back on evening entertainment. Just a "mini disco" for very young children and nowhere to escape for the adults after hours. Great access to the park but as rides dont start till 11.30 am it is irrelevant. Older kids who can walk better of on all inclusive and cheaper deal at El Paso and parents can also avoid in your face kiddies disco. Pools very busy so no gaurantee of a sun bed. Restaurants v expensive at lunchtime for v mediocre food. No access to beach club which has been sold off. All in all go there of kids young but otherwise try el paso.

Just returned from a week at Hotel Portaventura with my husband and two daughters aged 16 & 13. We flew into Reus and took a taxi which cost €30. We arrived at around 12pm and left our luggage with porters in front of hotel. Check in took about 20 minutes. Our room was not ready until 3pm but we had use of facilities straight away. It's a good idea to have swimming gear to hand so you can have a couple of hours by the pool while you're waiting. There is a pool bar that serves snacks, drinks, ice cream etc. The room was great, maid service every day. We were on the ground floor and had direct access to the pool. Lovely pool, we only used the larger pool but never had a problem getting sunbeds regardless of the time of day. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of food and choice. There is direct access to the park from the hotel. The theme park is much bigger than I expected. There are loads of rides which appeal to various age groups. The queues were long on most of the larger rides, so it may be worth investing in an express pass. We had an express pass max which let you jump the queue once on the large rides. There are other options available. Funnily enough the queues were much shorter on Saturday and Sundays. Plenty of food options in the park as well. We walked into Salou a few times which took about 20 minutes to the centre. Very busy resort but worth a look around the shops for a change of scenery. We all really enjoyed and wish we were still there!!!

Just returned from a 7 night stay at this hotel... Hotel portaventura.... We took are 12 and 14 year old .... This is definitely one of are best family holidays... It is on the expensive side but you get what you pay for here.... Something for everyone here .... The rooms are standard as described but comfortable and linen and towels are changed daily and there is a laundry service on request.... We didn't get the pool view we requested but the view we had from are balcony was nevertheless lovely... Balcony not very spacious but handy for drying towels and swimwear..... Two pools, we only used the bigger one which was the best and biggest pool I've ever come across and well supervised... Lots of sun loungers but it does get busy so is an idea to leave your towels there early to get your pitch.... 24 hour reception were staff are helpful and friendly.... The complex itself looks lovely and is kept very clean...... We went half board having breakfast and evening meal included which I would definitely reccomend.... Even at busy times there is plenty for everyone to suit every taste and lots of variety.... There's also a choice of desserts and plenty of fresh fruit... In 7 days we never had the same meal twice.......quick and friendly service each and every time ...... Direct Access to theme park included in holiday cost.... Theme park itself is best I've ever visited... My partner and son aren't really that into rides but had a fab time .... Rides are some of the best I've been on.... They have regular shows in the different themed areas such as the sesame street characters ...Betty boop... Flame throwers and a parrot show.... The park is open 10 am til midnight and was busy at all times through out are stay.... Again some lovely views to be seen here....each night there is a spectacular character parade which is a must see for all ages... Each evening is ended by a spectacular firework display and water show which is similar to the Disneyland one..... Plenty of places for snacks, meals and drinks but these as typical for theme parks are quite expensive....... The caribre waterpark is next door to the theme park and hotel complex and hotel guests get a 30 percent discount... Well worth a visit we stayed there for a full day... And had lots of fun.. Again one of the best water parks we've ever visited....... Salou itself is a beautiful place and has a lovely beach... It is a twenty minute walk from the hotel or 7 euros in a taxi.... Bars here are much cheaper and it has supermarkets which is ideal and cheaper for snacks and drinks etc for your room.... There are excursions and boat trips u can go on... We booked through are holiday rep at the hotel and went to Barcelona for the day and visited neu camp stadium and gardia familia and went to see the fountain show which was all worth while.... Overall a brill highly reccomended destination and hotel... Sunny beach at bulgaria has always been are favourite till now....Although we felt 7 days wasn't enough to fit everything there is to do and see in...we found it quite tiring tryin to pack it all in 7 days... 10 to 14 days would of been ideal...... We would definitely return.... Only flaws if we was to really be picky ... Was we arrived at 10 am and are room wasn't ready till 3 pm... Although staff will do there best to have your room ready early... But bearing this in mInd I would dress appropriately for the weather and pack ur swimwear in your hand luggage... Room service take your luggage and put it in your room....also we had two double beds in are double room opposed to a double and two singles meaning are 12 and 14 year old had to share.... And the queues for the rides can be a hour-2 hours.... Fast passes can be purchased to get quicker access but we personally thought we had already paid enough..... But none of this stopped us from having a great holiday :)

I am not a complainer, BUT I think this hotel should consider family entertainment on some evenings. After all, most families would like nothing more than to relax. After a day at the park and in salou with kids. I became quite tired and just wanted a seat. Am not saying don't have the kids shows, all am saying is it would be nice to have a change. The last thing I wanted was to run after my kids at night after a tiring day. Entertainment for all the family were mum & dad can relax.

We stayed for 10 nights at the end of July and had a fun family holiday. The hotel is perfectly located at the entrance to the main theme park. Breakfasts were excellent - plenty of fresh food and quick efficient service. We stayed in a ground floor room close to the larger free form pool - very convenient for the pool although quite a trek from the main reception (but you can't have it all ways up!). The express passes are a must. We paid c €50 each and could walk straight on to all the big rides. Our 8 year old daughter didnt get the benefit of this though as she was too small for most of the bigger rides. We ate out during the day and in the evenings. The park food is pricey but not extortionate. Salou is not great as a town. It has plenty of bars, restaurants, supermarkets etc... but to be honest - not to our taste. We preferred Cambrils along the coast - nicer atmosphere and better seafood restaurants. Overall a great holiday that we would do again.

We travelled as a family of 4 (children ages 5 & 2) for 14 nights from 26 July to 9 Aug. check in was fairly quick although we were not able to get our room until 3pm. Not really a problem as you get immediate access to hotel pools and the theme park - tip : pack some swimwear in hand luggage to save opening up suitcases and searching for it.

Room was spacious and clean, balcony small and not enough space to seat two people but useful for drying towels, swimwear etc. Towels changed daily and bed sheets a few times during our stay - we found the room cleaners very polite.

We opted for half board and this I feel was a good choice. Breakfast and dinner were both served in the Buffet del port and there's plenty of choice from hotdogs/burgers, seafood options, pizza/pasta and a great selection of fresh salads. Our party found the food very good and it was probably only into our second week we started to feel the options were getting repetitive. You do have flexibility though and you can (via guest services) opt to eat in one of 4 restaurants in the park if you wish. We dined at the Ironhorse in the Far West (good burgers) and the Hacienda (Mexican) which was a little bland and disappointing. Service in all restaurants was good.

The Hotel has its own entrance to the park which is just great to come and go as you please. We found the best time to go with young children was in the evenings as the park was quieter and cooler. The park itself is terrific - if you have young children head to Sesamo Adventura where there are rides for all ages. For the thrill seekers the Shambala is fantastic - less than a year old and you can tell as its a really smooth ride. There's a single rider queue separate from the main queue so me and my wife took a turn each and you are on the ride in less than 10 mins versus 40 mins to 1 hour 20 at busy times.

Back to the hotel and the pool area was great and the long pool best for kids due to the shallow water. I never had a problem finding a sun lounger - people do reserve them but its not like I've experienced in other hotels with a mad scramble when the pool opens.

I'd agree that the entertainment is limited but if you've got really young kids like me it's ideal as after dinner there's face painting from 8 till 9 and then a mini disco fom 9.15 till 10.15 which our kids loved. There's a bar where you can get a drink from and plenty of tables to sit at. After 10.15 if you want more entertainment its best to head over to the park for rides/shows, Sesamo parade and fireworks.

We went to the Costa Caribe waterpark and it was ok - we arrived at about 11.30am and couldn't get any sun loungers but I'd recommend it as a day out to break up the holiday.

I'd certainly recommend this hotel and we are considering returning next year as the kids has such a great time.

Room Tip: We had a pool view near the long pool which was nice and quiet.

Stayed for 1 week in July with 2 teenage kids. The rooms were clean, but there was a birds nest up in corner of balcony so therefore a mess of bird poo on ground which was only cleaned once or twice in the week, otherwise it was very basic and quite cramped for family of 4.
We were B&B only and couldn't complain about choice something for everyone. Great if you're just going just for the park because there's not much else to do apart from that. It's quite a walk to get down into salou which we did most evenings took us about 20 mins and we're quick walkers.
The week was long enough for us!
