“Good - but not brilliant”
Reviewed August 9, 2013

Stayed for 1 week in July with 2 teenage kids. The rooms were clean, but there was a birds nest up in corner of balcony so therefore a mess of bird poo on ground which was only cleaned once or twice in the week, otherwise it was very basic and quite cramped for family of 4.
We were B&B only and couldn't complain about choice something for everyone. Great if you're just going just for the park because there's not much else to do apart from that. It's quite a walk to get down into salou which we did most evenings took us about 20 mins and we're quick walkers.
The week was long enough for us!

We booked online through PA Holidays and knew that the room was not ready until 3pm, so having arrived just after 10am, we got a breakfast and then laid by the pool relaxing.
The room was ready early and had everything we needed, apart from the empty shampoo and shower gel holders in the bath, but we had our own anyway.
Wifi was free and good reception as we were right near the park entrance. Breakfast was plentiful, but if you sat outside the risk was smokers near you.
We used the long pool and found it a lot quieter. After 7 days I walked through reception and Tarik on reception said hello and he'd remembered my name, that is good service.
The theme park is very good and Shambhala is worth riding, we did it nearly 150 times between us.

This is a hotel that has great direct access to the park and that is about it. As a stand alone property in a different location it would be a 3*. It´s tired and it´s in need of a major refurbishment but given the economic situation this is unlikely to happen anytime soon. Photos are very misleading. Pool is nice and well supervised. Food is absolutely awful and the place is completely shut down at midnight. No bar. No room service. No fun. Poor but free internet connectivity. Friendly concierge desk but with little to offer as Salou, the town nearby, is one of those places that features on British TV a lot where loutish behavior is the norm. Tacky garish poor man´s Chavtown sur Mer.

Ok so if you are not bringing kids then this hotel is probably not for you as it's right in the theme park so for us it was great to lie around by the pool all day and head into the park in the evenings when the rides were not as busy ...
The pool area is fantastic ..huge pool one of the nicest we have seen so far and sure people put towels on the beds to keep them but they do that everywhere , you will always get a bed if you look ...
The rooms are very good for a Spanish hotel .. Big rooms clean and air conditioned ..
The only negative thing I can say is the food is a little expensive for lunch dinner and ice creams etc probably budget about 130 a day but that is to be expected because of staying in a theme park ...
Staff in general were very nice although some of the waiting staff were so slow it was like watching paint dry :-) but I suppose you get those no matter where you go ....

When we arrived they told us our room wouldn't be ready for 3 hours but when I went to reception and said we needed room before that they took my mobile number and within an hour they called me to say it was ready ,it was 130 pm.after one day though the paint was coming of the bath and they wanted to paint it so we had to packed all our stuff and move rooms not very convenient when I have a 7 year old with autism , anyway after all that l have to say room lovely ,staff lovely food fab ,clean sheets few times ,clean towels everyday ,not far from the airport park not far ,it was great not having to pay out for park with it being in the price for holiday it was good , and the pool was never to busy which was great ,l would go back no time to be board

Room Tip: Not sure what's the best we had a room near the pool but it was a good walk to reception and din...

This was our second visit to Port Aventura having stayed at the El Paso on the last occasion 2 years ago and overall we found this hotel to be better although we would agree with previous reviews about checking in queues at reception.

We stayed for a week from 20th July with two teenagers. The park itself is excellent and with a direct entrance from the Hotel it was really convenient to spend time in the park, then be by one of the hotel's two pools within 5 minutes, returning to the park again later in the evening. Rooms are fairly spartan but have everything you need. Our room was on the ground floor right beside the pool, the air con worked fine and the room was cleaned efficiently every day by 2pm at the latest. Walls between rooms are on the thin side, so we kept the air con on low at night to help mask any noise from neighbouring rooms or hallways.
We stayed on a half board basis and all four of us rated the buffet food highly - it was of good quality and there was plenty of variety.
Drink prices are expensive - 1.80 euros for a bottle of water, 2.70 euros for a bottle of coke and the cost of food in the park is high and quality varies. There is however a supermarket about 15 minutes walk from the hotel, so it's well worth stocking up on drinks and snacks to avoid paying the high prices. You are not supposed to bring food and drink into the park and we saw some bags being searched at the main park entrance however we never saw any bags being checked on the hotel's entrance to the park.
One gripe is that whilst the Costa Caribe water park has been extended and is very good with plenty of sunbeds if you arrive before midday, hotel guests now only get a 30% discount on entry - so adults pay 19.70 euros each.

This is the third time and probably the last time we will stay here. The rooms are good quality but we had to really complain to get the air condition fixed particularly after the receptionist gave me a ridiculous explanation that the minimum temperature that air condition can go to in Spain is 24 degrees.......utter nonsense. We were absolutely roasted.
When we arrived there was a queue to check in that we stood in for over one hour. We saw that repeated for all days we were there. Only two people on reception for a hotel that size is a ridiculous situation, particularly through the busiest part of the day. I understand that they have to explain a lot to their clients on check in e,g. Tickets etc but they really need to work out some other way of dealing with this.

Room Tip: Try to get something nearer the reception or you could be miles away from the park gates. And take t...
