“self catering...no so bad at holiday village, belamadina”
Reviewed October 24, 2009

Have just returned from a self catering break at the holiday village and what i can say is that i read all the views and was very worried before i left but in fact i had the best holiday and superb food all holiday. I packed one full small suitcase of spices/salt/pepper/tea bags/ packed chinese sauces/mexican/italian/noodles and sent this all via main luggage. Take towels and washing up sponges. When we arrived the first day we got at bus (stop right outside hotel) to fuengerola for 1.30 euro each and the big supermarket was virtually 50 metres away in the centre. Did a big shop of drinks/fresh food and then for ease took taxi back (taxi stop is right outside supermarket) (15 euros for 4 of us). You can buy everything from here and not expensive at all in the big supermarket. Beware hotel shop is 3-4 times more expensive than supermarket. You can also get the bus back to make it cheaper. Make sure you take a wheeled holdal or strong big uk canvas bags...very useful and made it easier to carry. I cooked when i woke up every morning so had nothing to do all day but enjoy holiday. Bought plastic disposable plates and glasses..less washing up. None of us drink alchohol so was pointless going all inc..and i like spicy food so would have got fed up with buffet every day. I wont knock all inclusive because i understand......but the difference on my holiday was an extra £1000 to upgrade to all inclusive for one week and considering we are vegetarian and dont drink we wouldn't have got our moneys worth. In total i think we spent £100 for the week for luxury foods & drinks inc..olives, nuts, chocolates/fine cheeses/gorgeous salads/home made curries with fresh herbs and many hand selected fruits. Sometimes purchased soft drinks at the hotel...which were pricy...but still worked out much cheaper than all inclusive for us. You can take your own plastic small bottled drinks purchased from outside...hence taxi back....make sure you buy plenty. The hotel resort was great...so many activities for the children...huge accomodation..a basic small kitchen but managed...a sea view room and fantastic home made food all holiday...just perfect. Plus got to wake up whenever we wanted..no queing for food and beach club was fantastic at lunchtime as everyone went for lunch on all inclusive so it became quieter for us to use...Self catering includes use of all hotel outdoor pools...not indoor one and doesn't include crazy golf but never used this....table tennis free...kids clubs free...beach club pools free....gorgeous!!! (charge for rings only if you want one for kids)..only one bad point....well actually two....had another incident at the hotel pool of a child having a toilet accident in the main pool...yukky!...seems to be a regular occurance at this hotel having read past reviews...again pool had to be shut down...luckily this was on our last day so didn't really affect us much....second moan was the prices at malaga airport on return journey..six euro for a sandwich...2.85 euro for a small diet coke....rip off...makes the uk airport seem really cheap. Take food with you for return flight home or book a meal on your flights. Overall...superb holiday....cost £850 for 4 people self catering in 2 separate rooms/apartments.......spent approx £200 on luxury food/drinks for all of us including stuff i took from home...a bargain deal....good spacious accomodation....fab view....lovely weather....will return to this place definitley....thanks for reading my review...hope it was useful to you.

just got back yesterday ,we had 11 nights all inclusive , me my wife and 9 yr old son, and yes we had read the reports before we went, and i began to wonder if we went to the same hotel, i wonder if peoples homes and lives are as perfect as they expect their hotel to be ( me thinks not).
Do not believe all you read, the hotel is clean, the rooms are cleaned daily, towels are changed daily, if you need anything pick up the telephone and ring reception, the staff are only too willing to help, you will always see a maid cleaning some where.
When you go to the dining room you maybe will find a queue but try going at a different time and the queue wont be there !! simple eh!! the food is excellent, but its not bought from tescos or asda its spanish because You are in spain, the food is good we never had the same evening meal twice, full english every morning, hot dogs, burgers, chicken nuggets for the kids, trust me no one will starve the is some thing for everyone.
The entertainment tried their hardest, FLASH should be made president he is absoutely crackers, the " holiday express" was the highlight of my night, but even he had to tell folk " these are your kids not mine" so basically get of your arses and come and have some fun with your kids, me and my wife got up every night , our son caught us one night and was horrified !! and so did other couples..
The hotel is not miles from anywhere, it is on a bus route, 4 or 5 euros and you are in fengirola or benalmadena,
The wavelength club for the 9 - 15 yr olds is awesome (so my boy says ) there are activities all day and night , we hardly ever saw our son . lindsay, tom, kay , woody, all deserve a name check they were brill.
The only thing negative to say is dont go self catering , it will work out dear ,shop in the hotel is dear and buses in to town will work out dear every time you want food, the hotel is definatly geared to all inclusive.
some one moaned about the water park over the road being too far away, EXERCISE dear, EXERCISE , it takes 5 minutes and no more..
Lastly go to this hotel with an open mind , be prepared to take the good with the bad and you will have a bloody good holiday ,, we did, see you next year, holiday village ( and we never go back to the same place)
p.s FLASH RULES O.K....

we booked this holiday as we wanted a hotel that catered for children. with all hotels i have stayed in, there is always good bits and bad bits and this had both but if it really tryed it would have all been good. now if i tell you the bad first . the reception does not want to help you at all, they dont smile or talk to you with manners, its like getting blood out of a stone at times. the cleaning service is horrible, my son wasn't well a few days into the holiday and was sick on the bedding it took them 3 days to give us clean bedding and thats only after i complained at reception twice, they say the bedding is changed twice a week, i'd say more like a year. the food was laughable, lukewarm, bland and sometimes very odd. they did vary the meals daily but the effort that went into preparing them was a joke, they even fetched a microwave out 4 days into our stay so people could actually heat up the crap they were serving us. best thing was the game we started playing which was "can you spot whats on at breakfast which they were serving us for tea the night befor". lastly the baby pool should have been called the inflateable playing pool because it was the only place where inflateables were allowed, and when the adults got a game of water polo going it became a dodgeball arena as one of the nets backed onto the pool, i saw two people wiped out by a mis-thrown ball, wasn't pretty.
on the good side the reps and the in2action team did an amazing job keeping the the kids and adults entertained, kids clubs and crech always had something on and to say what the evening entertainment staff had to work with they did an amazing job, thanks to jazzy b, sarah sparkle, just james, joveltine, special k, and flash for some excellent entertainment they made are hoilday and without them the hoilday would not have been tolerable. So as these reps will not be there next year my advice is not to book this hotel as its a rip off and the hotel is a let down.

Like most people I read the reviews before going my holiday and to be honest I was very worried. I had no reason to, it was brilliant.Pools very clean, food lovely and themed nights every night.Room spotless and cleaned daily.Day and night reps worked very very hard with the children in the kids clubs. They loved it!!!.....We also got a few hours to ourselves to sit by the pool while they were having fun.The water park across the bridge takes about 5 mins to get too and again that was great.I really couldnt find any fault with anything and I am usually very fussy about food, cleanliness etc.As for the mexican and Italian restaurants, they were also very good.I really do ask myself why people go on holiday abroad if all they are going to do is moan.Stay at home in your 5* accomodation with your own home cooking and let the rest of us enjoy our holidays!!!!

Im not going to provide the usual factual/inaccurate journey this notice board enjoys. Is it me or does everywhere you want to go sound like a nightmare from reviews?Just got back from a week at holiday village with wife and 10 yr old,had a brilliant time.I must have scanned 20 contributions to find a good review and wondered if this holiday would be disappointing.I admit october is not the summer-rush with the inevitables that brings,or for £350 a/i what do you expect? We got around 30 degree temps, clean rooms, entertainment we expected, friendly staff, good pool facilities and food that always offered something for everyones palette, however particular your kids.Yes there are some irritables like a few pigeons, the odd wayward family and kids and wife that dosnt like flying!! These never deflected the overall enjoyment. My view is no more valuable than any other members but in future reviews will not determine my venue. If this theme rings a bell with anyone, you're not on your own.

This is definately not a four star hotel. Our room was not properly cleaned for the whole week we stayed there was a bit tatty and smelled of stale cigarette smoke.Food was disgusting and had the same old same old every day.The mexican restaurant was so bad that we left our food and walked out The staff did not seem surprised by this. We went to the Italian on our last night and it was the only decent meal we had all week.Staff did offer a drink when they showed us to the table but did not offer a refill,. if you wanted one you had to ask them.It is also not all inclusive as some food and drinks carried an extra charge 1.50 euros for a slush puppy and 2. for a glass of milk.Several people we spoke to had experienced sickness and diarrhoea,my husband had a stomach upset for most of the time we were there. The beach club is also a bit of a joke as it is a trek with young children and you can't get any food at that side.Adult entertainment was also dire. The reps were also very indifferent to complaints and some of them seemed to be on a different planet.Check in took 50 minutes. After a long journey the children were very tired and hot ,there were no reps present and we were not even offered a cool drink. My five year old grandaughter had a great time but we would not return to this hotel.

We booked a late deal , with some reservations on going to the costa del sol .
then we read some reveiws , some horror stories , then panic set in with days to go !
My wife and I and our 3 year old son had a ball , there is something for every one to do any time of the day or night . all of the hotel staff were really helpfull and freindly as were first choice staff ,the kids club is run by first choice and staff there are amazing and accomodate every child, as our son has down's syndrome and loved it .They really were first class.

the food was good and plenty of choice , we have had better on other 4 star all inclusive holidays.
the rooms are ok , a little dated and well used , but clean and every thing you need . some people moan about the mini bar not having enough drinks in it , TAKE THEM UP FROM THE BAR !
hotel pool is ok , a bit nondescript ,but loads of things going on . the beach club is 2 min walk away with fantastic pools and pool areas for all ages , life guards every where and on the ball , also there is a beach 3min walk away in both directions out of the hotel..
we would go again , but to one of the sister hotels , well worth a look , on your own , not with the liverpool ladies that tout the hotel and grounds .
