Have just returned from a self catering break at the holiday village and what i can say is that i read all the views and was very worried before i left but in fact i had the best holiday and superb food all holiday. I packed one full small suitcase of spices/salt/pepper/tea bags/ packed chinese sauces/mexican/italian/noodles and sent this all via main luggage. Take towels and washing up sponges. When we arrived the first day we got at bus (stop right outside hotel) to fuengerola for 1.30 euro each and the big supermarket was virtually 50 metres away in the centre. Did a big shop of drinks/fresh food and then for ease took taxi back (taxi stop is right outside supermarket) (15 euros for 4 of us). You can buy everything from here and not expensive at all in the big supermarket. Beware hotel shop is 3-4 times more expensive than supermarket. You can also get the bus back to make it cheaper. Make sure you take a wheeled holdal or strong big uk canvas bags...very useful and made it easier to carry. I cooked when i woke up every morning so had nothing to do all day but enjoy holiday. Bought plastic disposable plates and glasses..less washing up. None of us drink alchohol so was pointless going all inc..and i like spicy food so would have got fed up with buffet every day. I wont knock all inclusive because i understand......but the difference on my holiday was an extra £1000 to upgrade to all inclusive for one week and considering we are vegetarian and dont drink we wouldn't have got our moneys worth. In total i think we spent £100 for the week for luxury foods & drinks inc..olives, nuts, chocolates/fine cheeses/gorgeous salads/home made curries with fresh herbs and many hand selected fruits. Sometimes purchased soft drinks at the hotel...which were pricy...but still worked out much cheaper than all inclusive for us. You can take your own plastic small bottled drinks purchased from outside...hence taxi back....make sure you buy plenty. The hotel resort was great...so many activities for the children...huge accomodation..a basic small kitchen but managed...a sea view room and fantastic home made food all holiday...just perfect. Plus got to wake up whenever we wanted..no queing for food and beach club was fantastic at lunchtime as everyone went for lunch on all inclusive so it became quieter for us to use...Self catering includes use of all hotel outdoor pools...not indoor one and doesn't include crazy golf but never used this....table tennis free...kids clubs free...beach club pools free....gorgeous!!! (charge for rings only if you want one for kids)..only one bad point....well actually two....had another incident at the hotel pool of a child having a toilet accident in the main pool...yukky!...seems to be a regular occurance at this hotel having read past reviews...again pool had to be shut down...luckily this was on our last day so didn't really affect us much....second moan was the prices at malaga airport on return journey..six euro for a sandwich...2.85 euro for a small diet coke....rip off...makes the uk airport seem really cheap. Take food with you for return flight home or book a meal on your flights. Overall...superb holiday....cost £850 for 4 people self catering in 2 separate rooms/apartments.......spent approx £200 on luxury food/drinks for all of us including stuff i took from home...a bargain deal....good spacious accomodation....fab view....lovely weather....will return to this place definitley....thanks for reading my review...hope it was useful to you.
