Our long weekend trip to Benalmadena was greatly enhanced by staying at Las Arenas which has a first-class position across from the beach. The bedrooms were smart and clean and the public areas spotless. There were two major plus points. Firstly the staff who were simply superb--professional, friendly, helpful and tolerant--there were 15 of us! Secondly the restaurant food which had good, varied choices of well cooked food and even though the hotel was full the staff always ensured any waiting was kept to an absolute minimum.

Room Tip: Try to ensure you get a room with a balcony and if possible facing the sea.

A week booked last minute from Latedeals.co.uk (a Thomsons subsidiary website),( please note NOT Thomsons Late Deals). You always take a chance with late deals so I try and do my research. In January Benalmadena is quiet but not shut. The hotel is on a busy through road, dual carriageway, bus route, and some heavy goods, most of the traffic is domestic but there is a lot of it so there is plenty of traffic noise at the hotel. The traffic noise is minimal at sleep time and shouldn't be a problem for most people. If you bought this package through a brochure you may have a few issues with this hotel with its road position and the swimming pool/solarium location. We visited 27th January 2013. We had difficulty getting a sunny place round the pool. The sun is off the pool by midday-ish. So if you want to sun worship all day you will need a west facing room not overlooking the pool and you'll be ok. We had floor 2, Room 210 just around the corner from the lift and we had sun until 6pm on the balcony....Great!
There are no gardens at this hotel so 'what you see is what you get'.
Some people who review don't seem to know how the hotel Star System works. The hotel needs certain facilities in place to qualify and they must be maintained. Las Arenas is 4 Star. What you will find at Las Arenas is a Sympol Group Hotel with professional staff. You will find standard Costa Hotel Buffet food but with an excellent choice and freshness. All the hotel staff seem to be aware of what they have to do. No sloppiness and their appearance very professional. Some people on this site complained about the size of their room. Were they at Las Arenas? Our bedroom was spacious, single beds huge, TV Samsung Flat 32'', lots of English channels. Beautifully maintained hygiene....every day and Aircon. What do people want?
I'm not saying that this hotel is all things to all men but it ticks a lot of boxes and I've mentioned the boxes that it doesn't tick for me. The entertainment might be a problem for some as it doesn't start until 9.30pm. and it is hotel entertainment which is not for me. What nobody has mentioned on this site is that this hotel has won Gold with Thomson's for 2011 and 2012 also Tripadvisor awards for best hotel. The hotel obviously are proud of this and display them in the foyer. The deal that I got online was amazing and the price disappeared of The Web the day after I booked. I'm not embarrassed to say we paid £215 for 1 week Half-board, Flights and Transfers on Thomsons latest new addition plane 737-800 from Newcastle! The deals are out there so don't expect to tick all the boxes and get this hotel booked.

Room Tip: If you want the sun you will need a west facing room, also these rooms overlook a quiet office compl...

Stayed for one week in January 2013. I have read the negative reviews and wonder what planet these people live on. Excellent Hotel, great staff, fantastic food and all for a ridiculously cheap price. We will definitely book again.

Just spent a week here on a Thomson package.
Hotel is in a great location by the sea with easy access to the beach. The lovely Paloma Park is just behind and is well worth strolling through to see the varied animals and plants.
The hotel is very clean and well maintained and all the staff polite and professional.
Bedroom was small but had plenty of space for clothes. The bed linen and towels were changed daily and basic bathroom amenities provided. Bed and pillows were of good quality though quite firm. TV had a good choice of English channels
Dining room was clean, well organised and the food was of very good quality and choice. Can't believe anyone could go away hungry. The staff were very efficient and friendly.
There was entertainment each evening, either a quiz or bingo followed by various singers or Spanish dancing. We stayed in every night and enjoyed it all, though, down to personal taste, some more than others.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a fun break.

My wife and I have just returned from this hotel, it does not live up to the description in the Thomson's brochure.
The rooms are small, the hotel is noisy, the dining room has too many tables crammed in to make eating a enjoyable experience, but most of all beware of the show cooking of chicken it is still pink on the inside on at least two occasions, not safe !. also the lack of choice coupled with the staffs attitude of take it or leave was annoying.
In addition its location on a main road does not help, your are plagued by the African peddlers.
I would think twice before booking this hotel.

Room Tip: Get a superior room if you must go there.
