“Benal Beach”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

This was our first stay at the Kingfisher Club Apartments at the Benal Beach Hotel and because we were there in October the complex was very quiet and the outside pool slides were closed but as we didn't want to go on them that was not a disappointment. The gardens were neatly maintained and very pleasant to sunbathe in but you do have to pay 3 euros per person for a sunbed. Our room was clean and refurbished but I was a little disappointed that we actually got a double bed not 2 singles pushed together, I much prefer 2 singles because I feel it is much cooler and gives you more space. The kitchen and all the utensils looked fairly new and washing-up liquid, tea towel and complimentary tea and coffee were provided. We had plenty of clean towels and we had to pay 1.50 for towels for our sunbeds which we kept for the week. We had a safe in our room but it was locked by a key instead of a code so we had to carry the key with us everywhere which is not always ideal as well as the room key which was on a large fob because that had a key for the back gate which we never used. I must admit we did get cockroaches in our apartment at night and we were on the 6th floor but they were baby cockroaches and my husband got rid of them, maybe the hotel would have provided a spray if we'd asked for one but being in a warm country unfortunately you're going to get them. The Benal Beach Hotel is next door to the local park which is wonderful, the grounds are beautiful and full of wildlife. In the centre of the park is a lake which is inhabited by swans, ducks, geese, gulls as well as turtles and running around the grounds are what look like domestic rabbits but they obviously live in the park. There are also 2 outdoor cafes in the park and we spent every morning in the park having our breakfast which was relaxing and a real treat. We did eat snacks and drinks at the poolside bar at the hotel and it was lovely food but the drinks were a little expensive. Benalmadena is a lovely resort with a nice promenade and a beautiful marina and within easy access of other lovely resorts.

I stayed for 10 nights from 12 September. Disheartened as pool shoots not open, only open in height of summer. Nowhere to sit away from apartment except plastic table and chairs by pool. No lounge area/entertainment/night-time area to sit and relax. Apartment had cockroaches (even a few at times in fridge!) although talking to other holidaymakers seems theirs weren't as bad. Good range of amenities in apartment except fan in lounge did not work and aircon sometimes took money, other times didn't register money put in. Benalmadena itself is an easy, safe place to stay, longe promenade and close to other resorts (Fuengirola and Toremolinos). Buses very cheap!

Room Tip: Make sure you're not overlooking internal roofs as awful!

I cannot fault the kingfisher club at Benal beach. We booked for 16 nights with our 8 month old girl. We arrived late at night to find our room perfectly set out with tea, coffee and sugar on the side and the travel cot set up in the bedroom.

The room is fully equipped for a self catering holiday from pots and pans to ironing facilities and a washing line and pegs.

The cleaners are lovely and although they speak literally no english, are extremely friendly and chatty.

The receptionist for the king fisher club is a lovely lady, wiling to help any way she can.

A week into our holiday we noticed the toilet was slightly wobbly. I informed Pamela, the receptionist, and within ten minuets two men turned up, fixed the toilet, replaced a few light bulbs and gave me a new mop, then returned a few hours later (after the sealant had dried) and insisted on cleaning up the mess they had made.

The hotel is ok with a small supermarket on the bottom floor and a slightly over priced bar, however the barman is a lovely guy.

The pool is great, nice and clean, with slides and a pool bar.

All in all a great holiday. However please do not book with Benal beach itself as i have heard many horror stories about the rooms. I cant fault the king fisher club at all. (Minus the overly large keyring on the keys)

Excellent!

I stayed here as part of a stag do recently and it was a good, clean, well maintained and run hotel. It's an absolute maze to find your room though, some serious investment needs to go into signage.

The hotel was reasonably quiet when we stayed (late September) but I can see it being a popular destination during peak times for both family and group holidays. Don't be put off when I say we were a stag do, staff and lifeguards are pretty strict and on the ball (although no ball games allowed - at all, anywhere). It's a 5 minute walk to the beach and if you're visiting as a stag/hen it's 10-15 minutes walk to the square. A large pool area, pool bar (which was closed throughout our stay) and plenty of slides/flumes for adults and kids. Sun beds you need to pay for but there's plenty of grassed area that is ample with a beach towel. All in all for the short weekend we were there it was a great wee holiday in a great hotel. I'll more than likely be back to see it in its peak.

I booked a studio apartment and it was shocking, Arrived about 1 in the morning 28/9/2013 and receptionist was the worse the wear for drink. Given room number 306 block 2. Struggled to open door. Then the shock, very dated, no iron , no air conditioning, no fan. Electric socket missing on wall with bare wires showing, Mirror in bathroom was hanging off wall. Microwave was situated on bedsite dated cabinet. No toaster. Went down to reception and complained. He basically told me to go away, thats your room thats how it comes.

Returned to reception in the morning and told the same, asked if i could upgrade, he said yes its 10 euros a night. Given key number 102 of block 1 to check. bigger room but basically the same as i had. If it had a telly it would of been something.

Decided to make the most of me and my sons stay and stayed out of the room as long as possible.

Pluses - Pool area is fantastic and gardens too. prices are OK and not a rip off. 3 euros a sunbed wasnt so bad because it was lovely by he pool.

Eat out at the Wigan Bar if you like English Food, its the best value of all. The Newz is also very good Bar76 is also recommended.

Like a previous poster mentioned we didnt fly back till late and was amazed there was no where to store luggage or even anywhere to shower after checking out.

The Hotel staff are all very nice except the reception area, they are all very rude and totally unproffesional, even down to their dress code. shabby casual is the best to describe it.

Timeshare and Privately owned apartments are the only rooms to have here, make sure you do not book any rooms from Benal Beach at all. I couldnt imagine having to spend a fortnight in the room I had.

If you book through a company called Truly Travel you will have poor standard rooms. I read the warnings on here before I booked so should of stayed away rather than gamble on having a nice room.

Dont Gamble and you wont be gutted.

Room Tip: Just make sure you double check who the room is being booked with.
