Hotel Apartamentos Vistamar
Reviewed June 21, 2013

Just spent 7 nights here in June. Really liked the vistamar for value. Good impression from start with free room upgrade. Room itself a good size with kitchen area, fridge, Digital TV etc , spotless modern spacious bathroom and a decent size bedroom and outer room. Towels done everyday, good cleaning regime .
Food good at dinner, 4 course buffet choice means you dont go hungry here. The coffee/juice excellent tonic after the night before , the rest on offer at breakfast reflects multi national hotel . Surprisingly quiet at breakfast on all days except the Sunday.

Poolside offers shade and sun, plenty of loungers.Relaxing poolside and a separate medium size front garden at the front and lower end of the hill looked attractive, sheltered and peaceful.

Other reviews confirm the hillside position but there is the main road level car park entrance , it's a big hill otherwise, the receprion is on floor 4. At least not as high up as the neighbouting benalmadena palace. Now thats a stroll and a half , but worth it for the view .

Vistamar is very near to the beach , a short walk to nearest tavernas and small restaurants all fairly well priced. 2 euros or less for a pint. A longer 20 min walk to marina area but it looked safe enough at night . The excellent Palm Bar is a good half way stop . Why not?

There is debate about the Vistamar being less attractive as on the outskirts of the benalmadena resort but it is near a BK (if thats your cup of tea) and a great big supermarket to stock up the fridge for a hot day. And room prices are great value so you can't have it all ways. Its a 4 star, some would disagree, i dont and i will return here

We spend 7 nights in June 2013 to Vistamar hotel using a travel agency services .We were surprised to find a full equiped kitchen inside the apartment (living room+bedroom), useful for those who came with reservation and no meal. Two months before the scheduled holiday,we made a reservation by e-mail direct to the hotel for another person to stay with us (only for 5 nights) and when we arrived the room was prepared for 3 persons (no reconfirmation was necessary). The tariff for the extra person was very convenient (35 EUR/night, full board) so another plus for this hotel. The stuff is nice, speak good English and is ready to help when ask for (one 2 Russian tourists get blocked on the balcony and in just minutes someone came and solve the problem). The aprtment was clean (and cleaned every day), confortable and nice. The food was good, not very diverse but fresh all the time. The wine (1 bottle of 0.7 liters/table) red, white or rose also good (cold for white and rose) but of very low alcohol (beer also available by request instead of wine). The pool is cleaned daily, no so big but enough chairs and chilly water. You can visit Morocco, Gibraltar, Sevilla (you`ll find good prices in Benalmadena travel agencies for 1 day trip). In one word we recommend this hotel for a pleasant holiday.

All the staff are very friendly and welcoming. The only down side is the hill to the enterance this is very steep after check in you will be able to enter the hotel by the garage with your room card. what a god send that is. we would go again in the future.

Room Tip: Choose corner suite overlooking the pool

We stayed at the Vistamar as two couples, Grandparents and a couple with a 3.5 year old. We arrived at 9.45pm and missed the dinner, the restaurant closes at 9.3pm. TI....P Reception said we should have asked for food to be kept out for the late arrival.

They had upgraded our rooms , these were a bedroom with a (chargeable) safe, bathroom with bath, having a shower above, W.c. wash basin and bidet and a sitting room with a fold out bed settee, a mini kitchen with microwave, double hob, fridge and small sink, also a table and four chairs. There was a balcony with table and two chairs. There was an air conditioning system, which we used only for heating at night.

The rooms and hotel were immaculate. For those on a late flight back home, there was a shower in the reception toilet, so you can make the best use of the last day. All the staff were friendly and helpful and good with small children.

Food, reasonable breakfast and dinner buffet style. The hotel caters for people from all over Europe so the food reflected this. It was always well cooked. Choice was good both hot and cold. They cook potato differently to what we are used to. Plates were cleared as soon as you had finished eating. Coffee and fruit juice available at breakfast. drinks are chargeable at dinner. Keeping in mind that half board is a very low cost option it is worth having, eating out is much more expensive. The food is a bit limited for small chidren. The bar was reasonably priced. We attended a couple of the entertainment evenings and enjoyed them.
There is a small adult pool and a childrens pool (unheated) both kept very clean and a small garden area.
There is a car park under the hotel.
There is a slightly steep hill from the main coast road to the hotel reception (actually the fourth floor), which most people should manage. There is another way in on the level.through the dark and dingy garage but we found it quicker to climb the hill.

If you go down to the coast road and turn right about 50 meters or so up there is a largish supermarket located behind the Burger King. Opposite the Burger King there is a nice little cove shaped beach area (Gritty sand).
In town there is a park but you have to climb up to it. This has a very good kids play area to keep smaller children entertained. The park is beautiful and has small animals and a lovely cactus garden. The cafe is much cheaper than those on the sea front for coffee and ice cream. To the side of the park is a Dolphinarium we did not visit so cannot comment.
The younger couple in our party could not get up in the morning so always missed their breakfast. We did however find a very welcoming English run cafe/bar, STRAWBERRY MOON (Palm Tree Avenue) a few hundred yards up from the front, run by a lovely lady Lesley, she did a fantastic filling breakfast and other English food at very reasonable prices.
Just a bit further up from the Strawberry Moon is a large Supermarket having a lot of choice in food and drink. Go up the steep hill from here and bear left at the traffic lights leads you to the park. The climb is good to burn off a few calories from your breakfast.
Shopping in Benalmadena was fairly limited but very much better in Torremelinos and only 1.5 euros on the bus.
We traveled with Easy Jet, flying from Glasgow and thought we had a super excellent value for money holiday.
This end of Benalmadina is quieter than the center with only a few bars within a short walk.

We had booked to stay at the Palace Hotel next door but there was an issue with overbooking there so they moved us to the Vistamar, we were disappointed initially until we got into the hotel. The Vistamar is far superior in my view, the decor was flawless and incredibly clean. Staff were friendly. And overall the hotel was quiet and relaxing. In comparison when we were in the Palace hotel it just seemed chaotic and busy and we heard a lot of complaints in the little time spent there.
We were self catering and had room on 5th floor. Great 1 bedroom apartment, all essentials there, daily maid service, enclosed balcony giving a little privacy. Our room was above the reception and small salon and 2 floors above the bar but no noise or disruptions from them. Safe and wifi were extra costs.
Pool area was great, not busy season but no problems getting sun loungers/umbrellas even after 11am, and sun was on whole pool all day.
Bar was good for escaping the hot midday and snacks - try the vistamar sandwich very good. Bar prices were average. Free entertainment on most nights - the magician was great and singers too but more people sat outside rather than in so slightly awkward with only few people actually watching.
Were self catering so cant comment on the buffet.
The hill which most people want to complain about is not too bad - plus can get access til 11pm through the secured gate via the car park.
We loved this hotel, in the end we were really happy to be moved to this hotel as it was more suited to couples and those wanting a relaxing chilled out quiet time.

Room Tip: pool view room and higher floor.

Stayed at the vistamar apartments in April and it is definitely not a 4 star. Whilst we did stay in the quiet season the average age of the other guests staying was probably 60+. We pretty much felt like outsiders at a Spanish old-folks home. The hotel itself is clean, and the rooms whilst a little dated are clean and have decent bathrooms. We were on the 6th floor which was in the roof. Our room didn't have a balcony it was more of a hole in the roof with no view unless you stood on a ledge and looked over the wall. The pool area looked nice and clean however we never used it. We picked the hotel as we already had family staying at benalmadena palace next door which is definitely the better of the 2. We booked half board and it was easily the worst buffet I've seen. Hardly any choice at all. There are around 5 warm options in a morning and 8 of an evening but this would include all meats, carbs, veg etc so it was basically a fish, 2 meats ie chicken & pork, chips and some green beans or carrots plus either a pasta or rice. The cold choice wasn't any better. Compared to Benalmadena Palace whose buffet was probably 3 times as big with the added extra of fresh cooked meats both in the morning and evening and pancakes and eggs etc it puts vistamars dire attempt to shame.
The hotel is also out of the centre though there are a few bars/restaurants down the really steep hill it's situated on.
Definitely would not return and please don't go half board, the only plus side to the food was that it somehow didn't make us ill!
