Hotel Apartamentos Vistamar
Reviewed May 11, 2013

We had booked to stay at the Palace Hotel next door but there was an issue with overbooking there so they moved us to the Vistamar, we were disappointed initially until we got into the hotel. The Vistamar is far superior in my view, the decor was flawless and incredibly clean. Staff were friendly. And overall the hotel was quiet and relaxing. In comparison when we were in the Palace hotel it just seemed chaotic and busy and we heard a lot of complaints in the little time spent there.
We were self catering and had room on 5th floor. Great 1 bedroom apartment, all essentials there, daily maid service, enclosed balcony giving a little privacy. Our room was above the reception and small salon and 2 floors above the bar but no noise or disruptions from them. Safe and wifi were extra costs.
Pool area was great, not busy season but no problems getting sun loungers/umbrellas even after 11am, and sun was on whole pool all day.
Bar was good for escaping the hot midday and snacks - try the vistamar sandwich very good. Bar prices were average. Free entertainment on most nights - the magician was great and singers too but more people sat outside rather than in so slightly awkward with only few people actually watching.
Were self catering so cant comment on the buffet.
The hill which most people want to complain about is not too bad - plus can get access til 11pm through the secured gate via the car park.
We loved this hotel, in the end we were really happy to be moved to this hotel as it was more suited to couples and those wanting a relaxing chilled out quiet time.

Room Tip: pool view room and higher floor.

Stayed at the vistamar apartments in April and it is definitely not a 4 star. Whilst we did stay in the quiet season the average age of the other guests staying was probably 60+. We pretty much felt like outsiders at a Spanish old-folks home. The hotel itself is clean, and the rooms whilst a little dated are clean and have decent bathrooms. We were on the 6th floor which was in the roof. Our room didn't have a balcony it was more of a hole in the roof with no view unless you stood on a ledge and looked over the wall. The pool area looked nice and clean however we never used it. We picked the hotel as we already had family staying at benalmadena palace next door which is definitely the better of the 2. We booked half board and it was easily the worst buffet I've seen. Hardly any choice at all. There are around 5 warm options in a morning and 8 of an evening but this would include all meats, carbs, veg etc so it was basically a fish, 2 meats ie chicken & pork, chips and some green beans or carrots plus either a pasta or rice. The cold choice wasn't any better. Compared to Benalmadena Palace whose buffet was probably 3 times as big with the added extra of fresh cooked meats both in the morning and evening and pancakes and eggs etc it puts vistamars dire attempt to shame.
The hotel is also out of the centre though there are a few bars/restaurants down the really steep hill it's situated on.
Definitely would not return and please don't go half board, the only plus side to the food was that it somehow didn't make us ill!

In low season, early March 2013 contacted Apartamentos Vistamar by email, requesting confirmation of getting a sea view and received a very dubious reply telling me they could not do so. I ended up finding one near by that did .While on holiday popped in to find it was virtually empty and walking by several times early and late evening could see most that rooms were empty. On returning home sent an email asking them to answer these points and received back a very rude and 'smart' reply that was obviously written to be insulting. Glad I did not stay there, as the hotel is right on a very busy road and the beach in front is very small and gravel based. Talking to guests who were staying there, I found not one would stay there again and totally different to the positive ones written here. Having a lot of experience of hotels and teaching in an International Hotel School, my experience of the ambiguity, rudeness and untruth of their correspondence would advise people to stay well away from this hotel.

Room Tip: No point, as there is no effort to help you to do so, just blatant 'waffle' instead !!

this hotel has it all : great service, friendly and very helpfull staff, nice location, allround breakfast, extremely clean. The location is a bit less if you have mobility problems as there is a steep incline but still for us no issue.
Small minus : breakfastroom is a bit too small what generates queing around 9AM.
The swimming pool area is not really hugh, but seen the season large enough. Sunbeds will be put at you request.
We will most certainly go back, certainly if you make the price/quality balance !!! one can not expect hilton standards for inn-prices.

We have just returned from a week at this hotel. We were in a room below the kitchen with loud noise coming through the ceiling from 6 in the morning untill nearly midnight, as well as a wedding reception on Saturday night just twenty feet from our bedroom door with the noise from the disco going on half the night. We had a security screen outside the patio door which felt like being in a prison. Some nights we had to queue for nearly half an hour to get into the drab under sized dining room where the choice of food was very very limited compared to other 4 star hotels that we have stopped at. One night the choice of meat was chicken drumsticks or meatballs. The whole feeling from the decor of the hotel was drab and from the sixties. Some of the staff were ok but the women on reception duties when we asked to be moved to another room was only just this side of being extremely rude. The pool area was not big enough for even a fraction of the numbers staying to have a sun bed, which by the way did not have a mattress. We will NOT be going back.

Room Tip: Don't have rooms 101 to 104 as they are below the kitchen

The hotel is very clean, and with great facilities. It is close to the beach, and up a slight hill but it is not a difficult walk. The hotel has a large outdoor pool, bar and restaurant but as we had gone self catering we only used the retaurant once. It had a variety of meals to choose from in a buffet style and was good value. The apartment itself was well equipped and had a hob, fridge, microwave and plenty of storage space. Towels and bedding were changed daily and the room was clean and tidy. All in all the Hotel was great value and we had no complaints!
