Cable car ride to the top of Calamorro mountain. Fantastic views over the surrounding countryside and even more fantastic if you take the ride at sunset!
at the top of the mountain there is a birds of prey sanctuary with scheduled displays of the birds by the handlers and on occasions a show of exquisite horses going through their dressage paces. Well worth a visit.

I went on the cable car April and enjoyed the experience. very enjoyable. You will need a head for heights. The weather was very clear and the views were breathtaking. I would recommend this trip. At the top there is a cafe and restaurant where you can sit and enjoy.

We caught the cable car at about 4pm, on a slightly cloudy, but not windy, day. It was pretty quiet, so we did not have to share the car and reached the top after about 15 minutes. The views were amazing, even though there were still some clouds and we were easily in time for the 5pm Birds of Prey show, which was worth the price of the trip alone. It was great to see the birds flying against the mountain backdrop and the handlers were clearly committed to the conservation of these species as well as having an obvious bond with the birds they flew. I would definitely recommend this, although I can imagine that it would be much less enjoyable on a very windy day and not one for anyone scared of heights, as it is very high!

You will need a head for heights to really enjoy this experience but it's great fun and value.
Pick a clear day when you can see the top of the mountain and its not too windy and you'll get even more from the great views. The entrance is a few minutes walk away from the train station in Benalmadena and right opposite the entrance to Tivoli World so easy to find. There are flyers, bus tickets and credit card size promotional cards available all around this stretch of coast from Malaga to Feungirola offering 2e discount each for the cable car and some other attractions (May 2013) so check out foyers and the back of bus tickets for an even better deal that the standard price (about 13e adults). Leaflets show the opening times which vary through the year.
The ride takes around 15 minutes each way, setting off over the Tivoli World them park, houses villas, motorway and upwards to the mountain top - with an exhilaratingly steep stretch near the top!
Once at the top there are a number of paths set out with handrails to walk right to the summit or out to the "east viewpoint". Splendid views stretch from Malaga to Fuengirola and beyond.
Some of these paths are uneven and have many steps but are fine for most visitors who want to push on a bit further upwards - probably not suitable for flip flops though!
The twice daily falconry display (1pm and 5pm on our visit) was informative and enjoyable. Vultures, Eagles, Owls , Kites etc - with 7 Red Kites released to the UK as part of the breeding programme - and 2 large fluffly balls also known as Eagle owl chicks on our visit. The falconry display is optional and only asks for voluntary donations.
There are toilets, a cafe and souvenir kiosks at the base and summit of the cable car. It is possible to get a one way ticket as there is a long winding road to the summit too that keen hikers could try. In summer I have read on the Tripadvisor forum that there are also night time astronomy lectures held in English at the top.
In all, an exhilarating ride, great views, entertaining and informative falconry display and good value make this a "must do" for visitors comfortable with heights or willing to test their nerve!
