“Dos sangria por favor!”
Reviewed October 26, 2012

Spent a week as a couple at the Holiday Polynesia 19th-26th Oct 2012. We had a brilliant time and there was plenty to do. We paid extra to spend one of our sunny days VIP at the beach club and it was well worth it. We also spent one of our rainy days in the spa in the neighbouring hotel Hydros and although it wasn't cheap (35 euros each but with 25% discount) we had the whole spa to ourselves and it seemed much better equipped than the one in the Polynesia; it even had a view out to sea!

There are many positives to the hotel Polynesia and we felt that they far outweighed any negatives. The only thing is the food isn't always 'hot' but it is cooked well and there is a good variety. Every evening in the buffet restaurant there is a different theme, there is plenty to choose from if you are not too fussy an eater. We also tried the other two restaurants and found them both to be very good; we would recommend the pizza at the Polynesian and the freshly cooked stir-fry food at the Wok.

Outside of the hotel we visited Benalmadena and Fuengirola on separate days. We walked to both places and took the public buses back. The pavements line the roads the whole way (you CAN walk to them). We also went on a tour to Granada but we found it a very long bus journey.

If you like to escape from the hussle and bussle of towns this is the hotel for you!

The hotel is beautiful, turtles, waterfalls etc, the main problem for us was that the nearest beach took 35 mins that you could walk to the other beach near Benalmadena marina you had to go on a bus as it's unable to walk along the cliff edges.
If you pick the hotel up and put in near the marina beach etc it would be fab .

We stayed here for one week (14th Oct-21st Oct). First impressions of the hotel were wow! Check-in was very slow as there was only one staff member on so had to wait nearly 20-25mins (was not impressed). Rooms were lovely and spacious though like other reviews have said on here ask for a poolside view room if your a sun lover because the room we stayed in (352) got no sun at all during the day! We were travelling with a 3 year old that needed a power nap during the day so whilst it was nice to relax on the balcony we would have liked a bit of sun aswell.

The buffet food was just average as with always when on an all inclusive (dont expect anything great).

One complaint that i did have was a salsa festival was happening over the weekend we were due to check out we were not told about it. If you love salsa music/dance then maybe it wouldnt of been too bad but it was constant noise on the Friday 11am-7/8pm then Saturday it must have started around midday and the party didnt finish until 7am the day we checked out. We was very unimpressed that we wasn't warned!

Anyway other than that it was a lovely little family holiday and the weather was fantastic aswell so couldnt ask for anything more :D

Room Tip: Poolside view or entertainment side view for those sun lovers. The otherside of the hotel didnt get...

stayed here for a week 14th - 21st october with our daughter, her husband and three children ages 6, 5 and 18 months.

the hotel is amazing and the rooms lovely but we felt it was let down by a few things.

the buffet felt abit like a canteen. cutlery looked like it had been thrown on the tables and there were no condiments on the tables - you had to fetch sachets. there were very few staff during the week and tables were not cleared between courses. the food was ok but very repetative and only ever luke warm, but think this is often a common problem with buffets. my daughter and family tried the a la carte chinese restaurant and said that was very good.

the brochure says you get the free bus up and down the hill to the beach club. this was quite true, but once off the bus you have to then walk round the corner, go up a spiral walkway, across a bridge, down a walkway, walk abit more, then enter the beach club. if you have little ones make sure you take the pushchair and not think you will be dropped at the doorstep!

felt the general cleanliness of hotel was also a bit lax. again we felt there were not enough staff to cope. room floors were often dusty and dirty and the public area floors never looked shiny and polished. it is an extremely large hotel and needs lots of staff to keep it in tip top condition.

having said all this, we did have a lovely holiday. it is a good hotel for families and the kids club is very good. the large rooms are comfortable and well equipped. you can get english tv channels on the tv. the decor is amazing and the children loved looking at the turtles, fish and birds. the indoor 'lake' is lovely, especially when the fountains come on in the evening. if you want a sunny balcony ask for a room on pool side. balconys on the other side of hotel do not get sun except very first thing in morning.

it is quite an isoloated hotel. we had a taxi into both benalmadena and fuengirola. they cost about 12euros each way. check before getting in as prices vary. it is also easy to do it by bus, but with pushchairs etc we felt it would be more stressful! there is a nice beach. get the bus to the bottom, go right at the elephant island, walk along a little way and there are some steps down. there are alot of steps but they are wide and shallow so not too bad.just take it slowly!

beach club is great, lots for everyone, but the pools were freezing. the hotel pool is also lovely but very cold and we never had a problem getting sunbeds and parasols. snacks such as toasted sandwiches, chips, cakes, fruit etc are available by the pool from 11am - 6pm.

if the hotel can solve the few problems it seems to have it would be wonderful. we would certainly think of returning in the future with the family but don't really feel this is an hotel for couples.

Room Tip: pool side for sun

My family has returned today after staying at the Polynesia Hotel for one week (12-19th OCT-2012)
We found the hotel to be very clean on the inside with very friendly staff working in the Reception and Bar areas.
The big dissappointment with this hotel is the buffet syle food which is served in the Restaurant and outside pool area.......The food was of a poor standard and was always cold.
We complained to the hotel management but this didn't seem to change things so hopefully by highlighting it on Trip Advisor then it will make them face up to there mistakes and get things right for future guests.

This is a lovely hotel with some great facilities, comfortable rooms and good food.

Some (potential) negatives:
1 If you want cosy and intimate, this isn't the hotel for you. It's massive.
2 It isn't next to a beach, although there are beaches within walking or driving distance.
3 There is only one big pool in the hotel grounds, although there is a beach club with lots of pools at the bottom of a hill which you can walk to in around 15 minutes or access via a free bus.
4 You can't just walk to the nearest town or shops - you need to get a bus. There are regular buses to Benalmadena and Fuengirola, at a cost of around 1.5 Euros each way.

Some positives:
1 The rooms are very comfortable and quiet, and the small kitchen area makes it ideal for families with small children.
2 The food is good quality with enough choice for everyone.
3 Staff are friendly and helpful.
4 The hotel itself is well designed with a huge indoor aviary, large turtle area, indoor 'lake' and fountains.
5 There is plenty of entertainment, with live music all week in the bar, the usual 'shows', games room, disco, pool games, mini golf.
6 There is also plenty for very young children to do - kids club, playground, beach club etc.
7 The spa was very good, although you have to pay 5 Euros for an hour.

Apart from the beginning of the week, which was a busy Spanish bank holiday, the hotel was very quiet, so it lacked atmosphere. In high summer I expect it would be buzzing.

Room Tip: Room at the back didn't have a view of the sea but was very quiet.

This hotel is in the middle of nowhere its €10 in a taxi to met the first signs of life.It is extremly dirty not cleaned properly at all pool area dirty. The food is terrible luke warm terrible selection its more like a school canteen then a restaurant. The reception staff are the worst I have ever come across rude just didnt care one bit.It was our honeymoon and it was major dissapointment the food is so so bad and ever restaurant was as bad as other. The all inclusive pack which we were on was a joke terrible quality of drinks we would much rather pay to have proper drinks and good quailty food it was just terrible. We went to beech club 3 days where the staff were better booked the vip 3 days to get away from the noise and the crying from children all the time it €25 one day €30 the next day €40 the day after its just a joke for the money that we payed we could of stayed in a nice hotel €1260 to be correct.Had to pay for wifi it never worked payed for safe.Room was just ok beds very hard its not a junior suite its a narrow room with a old sofa abit of kitchen and big bathroom not 4 star by any means should of just left after the first day but they take payment up front when you check in very clever because you wouldnt stay here if they didnt do this we were on our honeymoon and expected good treatment its was way below par.The train that runs through this place is a good alarm clock though it can be heard from 6 a clock on.Its a joke stay well well away its in the middle of nowhere and food is terrible couples please dont make the same mistake we did or it will cost you because we stayed out of the hotel as much as we could and spent a fortune on taxi and quality food and drink which was crazy when you think we had all inclusive in hotel. Its just not a good place to stay
