Me and my husband have recently come back from staying at this hotel for the past 2 weeks. This were our honeymoon and overall we were very disappointed as it were not what we imagined when we booked it in Thomas Cook. When we arrived we were greeted by a lovely lady on reception, she welcomed us and said that she had saved us a big room with a sea view and gave us the items we needed. We went up to the room and it lived to her description, the room were huge, very clean and the view were second to non. The lady that dealt with us on arrival were working a lot throughout our stay here and she were lovely and would do anything she could to help, there were a man just the same that worked here too that again we saw a few times while staying here that were just the same very friendly and would do anything to help us, BUT as others have described there is a lady, quite small, plump, short dark hair and wears glasses that is VERY rude!!!!!!! She does not acknowledge you she totally ignores you and is not willing to help at all! She were working on our departure, she never asked us how our stay were, just said to us "what room" and gave us our deposit for the safe back, never said thank you for your stay have a safe journey home, good bye no nothing! Before we left my husband wanted to cigs from the cig machine, at this time she went to sit with a colleague to have breakfast and the cig machine wasn't working so my husband said "is this working" she stood up gave us both a dirty look and started babbling in Spanish!!!!!!!!!!!
The rooms were ok, quite basic but were cleaned every 3 days, with fresh towels left and the bed sheets changed.
The main down fall for us were the location, yes it is very close to the train station, but we are usually based in the centre of places and like bars/restaurants/the beech and other attractions close by to us so this were a major disappointment been in the middle of no where with a super market a 10 min walk away with 1 bar next door to it that does not do food! The nearest restaurant was a 15 min walk away and they didn't have a good variety of food, and please don't think that the beech is local because it's a 20 min walk to the beech which is basically a beech no shops near by with no bars or anywhere to eat!!!
Overall we didn't have a great time and would not return and I will certainly advise people not to stay here!!!!

We spent a week here on the last week of August. It was a last minute decision to find a hotel here as we'd been inland for two weeks and decided to spend a week on the coast. It cost 2 adults and 1 child 337 euros for our 7 night stay. Self catering..

The staff were pleasant and very helpful. The hotel was generally clean and tidy and the facilities in the room were basic but good enough. The pool is fairly small, but its a quiet hotel and was ok for a dip and my son was happy enough playing in it, as were other children. Its an ideal base for exploring the area, and the train is fantastic. Cheap fares, brilliant clean rail system (puts uk to shame) and you dont pay for children to travel so I would reccomend train to anyone with children, much cheaper than cabs.

Local restaurants are about 400km down the hill and there are a few and the prices were generally good. Between 6 and 8 euros for mains.... tapas avaialable in some of the more local bars.

If you want night life then use the train to go to Fuengirola or Benalmadena Central, or torremelinos,,,,,, trains run regularly, are cheap and will get you where the 'night life is' Last trains are midnightish, so clubbers will need to cab home... taxi fares are about 10 euros to Benalmadena central.

We were happy with what we got for our money, we were on a tight budget and it served as a good based to relax, plenty of sun on the balcony at night and I can't make any complaints.

Room Tip. Don't expect your electrical goods to charge if you go out. When you leave the room the electricy turns off and you come back to dead gadgets :)

Music needs updating just a little.... but they play music all day which can be heard from balconies, it is'nt intrusive, its like a local radio being played.

Food wise, it is very basic. We only ate at the bar, not in the restaurant Hot dogs, pizza and burgers mainly... and salad, We had a pizza and salad before we left and drinks, for the three of us was only 18euros. I did get chatting to another resident who was half-boarding. She said that there had been a problem with restaurant staff and that the half-boarders were now being taxi'd to a local restaurant (one I avoided eating in as I thought it looked very expensive) for their evening meals and that the hotel was considering doing this as matter of course. So I may book half board next time I go :)

If you are looking for cheap and cheerful, basic and friendly, then I would say this place is ideal, if you want waterslides and better facilities for children, or a big swimming pool, then I hear that Hotel Playa Bonita is pretty good. We did plan to go to the beach here, beach, but we didn't get chance.... too busy exploring Benalmadena beaches, and visiting Torremelinos Aqua Park.

If you are planning to stay here, the train station is easy to get to from Malaga Airport and you will pay about 1.70Euro to get to Torremuelle Station. A taxi will cost about 32Euros from Malaga Airport to here. I did meet a couple who were staying at this hotel who made a mistake of getting off at Benalmadena Station, thinking the hotel was opposite. Wrong station. They went hunting for the hotel and then cabbed back to the hotel.... thought I would pass this on as I can imagine that would be easy done. If you read hotel description, it says it is opposite the train station. That is correct but it is Torremuelle Station, so bare this in mind.

Would definatley go back :)

.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are right by the pool. I would have preffered a ground floor as privacy is not a...

Just back from staying a week at Vista del rey. I will start with the positives which are no. 107, ground floor clean, basic studio apartment with t.v, ensuite and small kitchenette. Cleaning staff polite. Accommodation directly across from the train line (Torremuelle stop) that runs along Benalmadena coastline from Malaga airport. €1.70 single journey. Wifi good. In quiet suburban area. Small supermarket down hill called quik save with basic stock. Lovely beach further down called Playa Bonita. Restaurant we tried in this area was Lucena II. A little bit on the pricey side for main meals but nice atmosphere.
Unfortunately, I have more negatives to say then positives about the accommodation. On arrival and during our stay we had to deal with a very unhelpful, complacent receptionist who was rude every time. Do,nt know her name (did,nt want to know her name either). Description of this woman is middle aged, pudgy with glasses and short dark hair.
Prior to arriving we requested a cot to be set up in the room and to have a upper floor apartment. The receptionist made out she did not recieve any of this information but was aware of my name for the accommodation booking. She gave us a ground floor apartment and the cot was not given to us until we paid the daily rate of 6 euro. Another incident with the same receptionist involved booking tickets for Sea World. It was stated clearly on the leaflet rack that a discount would be given for this booking if done through hotel reception. So, when I went to do the booking the receptionist said that the discount had to be done online and handed me back the leaflet. Frustrated at this point I took the notice about the discount off the leaflet rack and showed it to her. She pulled a face as if to say she was not aware. Then she made a phonecall. Finishing the phonecall she told me what the price would be with discount. Seriously wondered whether receptionist had a share in the hotel or was married to owner. Her attitude with customer care is one of the worse I have experienced.
Other negatives are the studio was only cleaned and tidied twice while we stayed there plus clean towels only given twice during the cleaning. A lot more cutlery needed for kitchen draw. Fridge freezer drips onto food in fridge. Swimming pool the size of a fountain. One washing machine and one dryer in basement area which hotel also use to do laundry. So, expect to wait if doing some laundry. Tokens for use €3.00 each. I think during the peak season your privacy might be disturbed if staying on ground floor apartment. Probably less noise in upper floor apartments too.
Overall I have to say not family friendly but maybe more suited to couples. We will not stay here again.

Room Tip: Upper floor apartments probably better for privacy and quiet.

Pros:
The hotel room was a nice size. Double and sofa with a small kitchen area. You have a nice view from the hotel rooms which also overlook the pool.
For the most part staff were friendly and helpful.
There is a train station opposite that provides gd connections to surrounding areas and is cheap.

Cons:
Hotel is kind of in the middle of nowhere(granted that might be desirable for some ppl)
The breakfast option is poor and shows a lack of care. There is a selection of cold meats and cheese which is fair enough for those happy with a sandwich. There is also fried beacon and baked beans but the beans are poured cold straight from the tin and not even heated up. All in all the breakfast is pretty poor.

Overall the hotel was decent for its cost

Stayed here with my daughter in September 2012. Not much round about the hotel but the location to the train station is fantastic. We took a train from the Airport and every night took the train to Benalmadena, Torremolinos and Fuengirola to the restaurants and bars. The last train is normally around 11 o'clock - so long are you don't want to go clubbing it's so much cheaper than taxis. The hotel was great. Loved the room - small kitchen, didn't use the facilities other than the fridge but new and clean, bathroom good size, bedroom/sitting area good size and fairly modern. We bought fresh bread, salad and meat from the local supermarket (couple of mins down a hill) and had lunch each day on the balcony which overlooked the pool. The pool is quite small and most rooms overlook this but it was great for a dip as it was still quite warm even in September. Surrounding area is quite residential but if you go with this in mind you should have a great time. We paid a small surcharge to keep our room for late check-out and after that went into Fuengirola for dinner and came back and picked up our cases before going to the airport. Went to the Selwo Marina (to see the penguins) and also the Zoo in Fuengirola (to see the white tiger) and both were very reasonably priced. Market close to Tivoli World is well worth a visit.

We had a lovely time at vista de rey. Spacious apartments, clean, nice pool area - all we needed! Close to buses and train, we went visiting other places along the coast. Couldn't fault a thing. Yes, it was fairly basic - but this was reflected in the price, we only paid £40.00 a night so we were more than happy with what we got.

Just came home today and we stayed 10 nights couldn't ask for a better hotel to stay in, room was clean, staff were brilliant and so easy to access Malaga to Feungirola and all the places in between don't be put off by a train station being so close as the trains are electric and you cant hear them. Supermarket just down the road nice staff there too always ask the taxi driver how much before you start your journey the train is always cheaper. Don't go there if you hate the sun or other people well done to everyone there xx
