Owner description: With a wide range of premium and luxury brands presented in flagship outlet stores OUTLETCITY METZINGEN offers an incredible date with the stars of the fashion scene. The glamorous star cast from Armani, Etro, Hugo Boss to Polo Ralph Lauren and Ermenegildo Zegna was recently joined by the luxury labels Gucci and Bottega Veneta. Award-winning architecture shapes the urban townscape and thanks to the wide choice of fashion and lifestyle products every visitor will enjoy a fascinating shopping experience with prices reduced by up to 70% throughout the year (compared to the former RRP if there is any). The picturesque town Metzingen 30 km south of Stuttgart and about 2 hours from Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich is one of the most successful factory outlet locations in Europe with approximately 3.5 million visitors from 185 nations every year. The reason for this success lies in the traditional past of the town as a center of textile industry and hometown of Hugo Boss.

This is a pretty good outlet centre, with a good range of shops. Prices are OKish, although not on a par with outlet centres in America (or, indeed, Bicester Village in Oxfordshire). The visit was good, and the range of refreshments outlets very broad. To get a higher rating from me, the prices should be lower.

When I first came to Metzingen over ten years ago you'd go there only to shop at the Boss factory outlet (being really that: a factory outlet store).
By now Metzingen has become a real outet city with all the fashion labels you can think of. However, it still is a normal town and as such it simply cannot cope with all the traffic that the shops attract. On Saturdays expect to either drive around for ages or, once you've gotten desperate, take one of the parking lot outside town and walk for up to half an hour.
Another major disappointment was, at least when were there in June 2012, that basically no real bargains were to be found in any of the shops. Maybe 30 per cent below high street prices but that's not worth the hazzle.

Overall it was worth the drive from Stuttgart (although the drive itself requires some patience as there is a single-lane stretch and a windy mountain road). When you get there, there is ample parking (at least on this Thursday afternoon) and you can choose between paid parking near the shops or free parking slightly further away.

The layout seems to have developed quite organically (as opposed to other more systematically-designed outlet malls) so consult the map, which is on the website and widely available all around the mall to make sure you don't miss any shops you want to visit.

The range of brands here is also rather limited, though it looks like it is still in the process of expanding. Do check out the listing on the website to manage your expectations. As of now, 4 hours should be sufficient to cover all the stores.

For those with kids, there are a babysitting service and playgrounds to keep them occupied.

Can't comment on food other than the presence of a McDonald's.

This is the right place for shopping in Germany. It is a short drive from Stuttgart and around 200 km from Frankfurt. There are plenty of brand name shops like Escada, Bally, Joop, Hugo Boss, Bogner and etc. Environment looks nice. Several parkings available and normally you can always find a free space. It is worth to go if you are interested in shopping.

The entire city is made of shops. It's not like any outlet mall I've ever seen in the states. It's crazy! It was about -5degrees C on the day we went, and there were people everywhere. We of course checked out Hugo Boss and the surrounding stores. We didn't leave with tons of shopping bags but it was a lot of fun to walk around and look at all the designer clothes. For us the prices seemed pretty steep compared to outlet malls in the States, but from what I've seen in Europe these were some good deals.
My only complaints are- It didn't seem to us that there were many restaurants nearby. Parking is kind of a disaster. People smoke right outside the doors of the shops.
