We’ve been to several clubmed ski resorts, this was really a disappointing one. From check-in, meals to evening shows were not what we expected from clubmed. No greeting when we arrived (even used their travel arrangement). Afternoon snacks were bad, most likely we were served with leftover cake, pancake or bread from breakfast. Normally evening shows are the highlight for kids, the shows in this resort made my kids upset every night. G.Os not proactive as other resorts. (Maybe we speak english not french?!) We hope it’s only because the village chief was not there during our stay, so staff just got relaxed. Anyway, it has already put us off to go to this resort ever again and of course I won’t recommend to anyone.

This was a fantastic holiday. I'll try and break it down a bit:

Skiing
The skiing is amazing. You go down to the boot room, put on your boots and helmet, pick up your skis, walk out the boot room and take around 20 steps and clip your skis in and go. It's that simple. Skiing back is as close as you like to the boot room. The real question is, how far is your locker to the door. It's literally that close to the slopes.

Valmorel has great skiing. From Clubmed you ski down to the Morel lift which is a gondola. At the top you have the option of a wide blue run (steep in parts) back to club med, or the kids favourite - the pirate run - which is a far more gentle but narrower blue run which criss-crosses the main blue slope.

We did that run every day at least a few times. From there you can either ski through the village and catch the altispace lift to the main section of the ski slopes, or from the top of the gondola, ski down to the morel lift which is a chair lift that gets you to a similar spot. There are loads of quick wide blues and access down to Doucy and across to St Francois Longchamps. Loads of skiing.

The only problem we had was because it was late March, the run back to Club Med can be very slushy. You can go down to Valmorel village which is better from a slush perspective (on the other side of the mountain), catch the gondola and get back to club med that way. I doubt this is a problem any other time of the year.

Ski lessons
Someone described the process as being herded around like sheep and it can feel like that, but once you are out on the slopes, the lessons are superb. The ESF instructors are world class. The first day especially is a bit hectic with so many people getting into the right class.

Arrival
Can be a bit overwhelming. Everything works really well, just keep asking where to go next. You basically need to check in, get your tags, find the right room for the kids ski club, book them into their lessons, get booked into your lessons, check your equipment in the locker and you are good to go. The Valmorel Clubmed is actually very relaxed about everything.

Meals
Very good. It's a big buffet style meal, but I enjoyed the way Club Med managed nearly a 1000 people so that you still felt like you could enjoy a quiet meal with friends and family. They have a number of eating areas and the early people go into one and the later group go into another. It's well done

Rooms
Great room - big, wonderful views. There are two options really. Rooms looking down the valley with beautiful views and rooms looking onto the kids ski area. Not sure which is better, the rooms looking onto the kids ski area are fun because you can see the kids playing and there is a lot to do there. The views are stunning.

Pool area
Great for a bit of a relax after a hard days skiing. There is also an outdoor Jacuzzi in the snow which is fun. You get to it from the pool.

Room tip: Rooms around the kids ski area are great because you can see your kids playing. The rooms on the other side have great views

It was our second stay in Valmorel. Despite the bad weather, we had great time.
Our two kids really enjoyed spending time at the Mini and Baby club. The staff is really nice and caring.
We had connected rooms on the 4th floor with a nice view on the slopes. Rooms are big enough for a party of 4.
Ski lessons were great, nice group and nice instructor.
We also enjoyed the spa and it was spotless.
We will come back next year.

Despite the lack of advice and poor communication with the travel agency responsible for organizing this holidays, my family have had a memorable time in Valmorel. Facilities are great, friendliness and professionalism of the GOs and ski instructors were well beyond my expectations.
Although the welcome, handling and entertainment of small children can be improved, overall Valmorel lived up to my expectations of a true ClubMed experience.

Skiing was superb as usual, however slightly disappointed that the GO'S (Gentile Organiser) spoke only French to my grandchildren all the time and didn't translate in English at any time, meaning that one of them had to join another group skiing one day as his group had gone and he almost missed a second time as his group was just leaving. My daughter had to run to catch the group up. Also at the end of the week when the photo screen comes up and shows the children on the slopes etc. yet again for the second year only French children were shown is this because when a photo is requested it is in French and the GO doesn’t translate to the English children that a photo opportunity is available.

This won’t stop us going again as everything has improved this year. The food was excellent with lots of choice, and the skiing was superb. Everyone else is very helpful and friendly and has made our stay a pleasant one especially the concierge staff in Le Lodge Anais, Olivier and Axelle.
