“Private lessons were great”

We hired two instructors during our week for two hour private lessons and had a great experience with both of them. We spoke French, so can't comment on their level of English, but they did offer to speak in English if we wanted too. During our first lesson, Mathieu even stayed with us a little longer than we paid for (it was the end of the day) as he felt my husband was just on the brink of "getting" the move they were working on. We had a great experience with them.

My family of 4 were all booked into lessons. I was put in a higher group due to no space in the group I booked. The instructor only spoke French and it was beyond my abilities. I left after an hour. Group of 14 didn't help! My wife got left behind, literally.she was doing well too. The instructor didn't even realise. My daughter of six is all but traumatised after being spoken to in French all day and shouted at too. My son of 12 got on ok, though was spoken to in French too.
All in all, they are a disgrace. Groups are huge, they just shout follow me and disappear and there is no such thing as an English speaking group it appears.... They always have been poor and it's a mistake to ave tried them again...
Use alpine ski school. English speaking and care about tuition rather than go through the motions.

Group lessons with 14 young children and one instructor. Rubbish teaching and completely unsafe especially during incredibly busy half term week. It's a miracle no kids got lost. Expensive too.
Also, in Morzine, ESF started lessons at bottom of Plenney, which meant that they had to get gondola to top of Plenney before lesson could start. Because it was so busy it took half an hour each morning and lessons were only two hours anyway. All other ski companies start lessons at top of Plenney.
Do yourself a favour - don't use ESF. I should have known better as their reputation precedes them.
