We booked a short break in early March which was excellent value. We arrived midday on Wednesday and left on Saturday afternoon. We took an Alpybus transfer to the Prodains cable car. You need to be aware of the location which is at the top of the resort when the cable car is at the bottom. Unaware of where we were heading, we actually took out luggage on a sledge all the way up! Next time I'd call for a transfer ( about 10 euros )
The apartments were a joy. They were well decorated, comfortable and functional. They were also very cosy and warm. Our one bedroom apartment slept 5. Although we travelled as a couple this time , it is worth noting that the design for a family is excellent. In an inspired reversal of the usual set up, the bedroom has twin beds and and a bunk above and in the sitting room the sofa pulls out to a fully sprung comfortable double bed. So its easy to put the children to bed and settle down with a good bottle of wine before retiring. The kitchen was very well equipped with dishwasher, microwave/oven, huge fridge, kettle , coffee maker etc. We didn't cook much but there was enough kit to do so easily
The bathroom wonderfully had a bath to easy aching limbs with a very effective shower over it. The toilet is separate
The ski room was fantastic with individual lockers for every apartment with heated boot warmers . Great to be able to leave all the paraphenalia of gloves, helmets etc down there and come down to find it all toasty warm in the morning.
The location, after the hike on arrival was great. Due to the location at the top of the resort, we have the most amazing views from our balcony and the sunset was awesome. Only a few minutes away (down the ingenious "Passages Publiques" which link the resort via lifts and escalators within the accommodation blocks) were the shops and bars. Avoriaz has a big Carrrefour supermarket and a wonderful Boulangerie
Childless for one once, we were able to enjoy a few apres ski beers in town before retreating with a haul of bread, wine, cheese, pate and salad for executive picnics back at our very comfortable base
The skiing was vast and varied and genuinely door to door. No walking at all. On our second day we skied right round the Portes de Soleil but otherwise stayed in Avoriaz as the late season snow was better there. Miles of skiing on the cheaper Avoriaz lift pass.
We had a fantastic break and the comfort and convenience of these excellent apartments played a big part in it
