Manoir de Guervihan
Reviewed December 28, 2013

My husband and I chose Manoir De Guervihan through Trip Advisor. We were going to Brittany to view homes for sale . Oak Tree Cottage was an ideal location for our venturing out all over Brittany, every day and a wonderful place to come back to in the evening. The cottage is so well appointed and we had all we required, plus wonderful beds for great sleep. The best of all was owners Fay and Trevor! Very kind people who showed us care and concern for our comfort. The best tea ever is served by Fay! They also helped us with questions and recommended places to shop. I can't leave out Cooper either! A lovingly wonderful dog who is also extremely handsome! We did buy a home close to Manoir De Guervihan and truly hope we get the pleasure of visiting Fay, Trevor and Cooper again! We would most heartily recommend staying here. I can't imagine better! We will be back in spring and look forward to seeing you again!!

Oak Tree Cottage, a home from home - one from which we did not want to leave....

This was our second trip to Manoir de Guervihan, previously we stayed in Honeysuckle cottage, but this year went for the larger 4 bed-roomed (8 berth). We were not disappointed with the accommodation, which was clean, comfortable and had every convenience you need for a family self catering holiday. The farmhouse sized kitchen was modern and airy and many a night was spent there wining and dining or round the outside table, playing cards or board games and actually talking to each other for hours; which was a bit of a first, as usually, they are too busy or watching TV? Much of that was due to there being no satellite (bliss). However, there was Wi-Fi and a CD/video player that seem to satisfy our daughters during the long evenings; after we had finished playing in the outdoor pool or table tennis, swing ball or even badminton on the front green or huge rear garden. Luckily, the weather was with us and many a day was spent relaxing, sunbathing and having a BBQ on the large patio.

Once again, there was a very warm welcome from Fay & Trevor, with a basket full of goodies to keep us fed and watered on our first night before going to the local boulangerie and hypermarkets around Pontivy. Their latest canine member of the clan, Cooper was not too sure of us at first, but by the end of the week he was playing catch and keeping our youngest daughter happy running round the garden.

We also had several trips out, one to Carnac (love the beach), another to Concarnaeu (visit the island fortress) and L'Orient (goods shops or so the ladies say?). Had a birthday meal at our favourite french restaurant by the river, L´Auberge de L'île in Pontivy (wonderful setting for an evening out).

Oak tree cottage was all we required for this week’s break, there were two double bedrooms (for Heidi & I and the other for our parents), a triple (which our daughters, Leah & Ffion took over) and a single for Heidi’s sister to give a little more privacy and peace from the rest of the family.

Overall, the house was warm and cozy for a large dwelling and yes, very homely. Will we come back to stay here yet again, yes we would. Thoroughly recommended; but only tell your best friends...

We travelled via Roscoff and would recommend Brittany ferries as a good route to and from Brittany, allowing you to arrive refreshed (unless you fancy several hours drive from Calais through all the tolls)?

My husband and I, having stayed here fifteen years ago with our family, decided to come back with a couple of friends for a week's holiday. The Manoir has changed hands and it is absolutely heavenly! Fay and Trevor are perfect hosts and very kindly left a 'Welcome' basket for us and Fay gave us a freshly baked cake when we arrived, all of which was most welcome. They are very friendly and we had many laughs. Kergrist is perfectly situuated to make day-trips to all the lovely surrounding towns and countryside. The cottage (Oak Tree) was brilliantly equipped and the swimming pool was a great way to wake up every morning. We would definitely go again and will recommend it to all our friends.

We have just returned from a week at Oak Tree Cottage and what a great week we had ! The accommodation is absolutely superb, very country French chic and with a great kitchen containing high quality appliances and kitchenware for easy self-catering.

We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and the Welcome Basket was very welcome indeed as all shops are closed at that time - wine, juice, bread, jams, pasta & sauce and more.

In addition to wonderful accommodation, the pool area is lovely with plenty of sunbeds/loungers and inflatables. A brilliant addition to the pool was an alarm which families with young kids would really appreciate - a short while after the water level has been motionless, it automatically sets and would then be triggered if someone fell in accidentally. It's easy to switch off when you want to use the pool but is a great way of putting your mind at ease if you have little kids about. The water isn't heated but we all had many dips once the sun had been shining for a couple of hours!

The weather wasn't great every day so we did a couple of trips locally. Pontivy has a great little cafe on the main street (Le Rivoli) and the castle is well worth a visit as it's not too big for kids to get bored and adults can have a dose of culture!

Another rainy day saw us travel to Vannes (abt 1hr 15mins) to visit the Butterfly Dome and Aquarium. We bought a discounted 'double' ticket for both attractions which, if there is a queue for the Aquarium, gives you priority entrance.

We had had a busy previous week in northern Brittany so when the sun did shine, we thoroughly enjoyed relaxing by the pool, having BBQs & playing rounders in the paddock - plenty of space for kids to run off excess energy.

The owners, Fay and Trevor, are lovely people and were always on hand if we needed anything. As a previous reviewer has said, wonderful accommodation can be spoilt by grumpy hosts - Fay and Trevor are the complete opposite and were part of a complete package of holiday enjoyment.

The icing on the cake for my kids, however, was the new addition to Fay and Trevor's family - Cooper the dog! He was wonderful to have around, very shy at first, but the kids adored him and hopefully made his introduction to noisy kids as easy as possible. He will be a big feature in our photo album!

We would fully recommend Oak Tree Cottage and, with its large wood-burning stove in the lounge, would be a pleasure to visit all year round.

We highly recommend Honeysuckle Cottage. We spent 5 days at this property and didn't want to leave. The accommodation is superb - extremely comfortable and everything in it of a high standard. Immaculate throughout - we couldn't fault it. Manoir de Guervihan and its two self-catering cottages - the other one adjoining Honeysuckle Cottage called Oak Tree is larger and also beautifully fitted out - is a beautiful property with lovely gardens and the added advantage of a swimming pool set in delightful surroundings. We felt this was "top notch" self catering and the icing on the cake is the owners. You might find as good accommodation elsewhere but if you have grumpy, unfriendly owners, this can ruin your holiday. Fay and Trevor who own this property are the nicest people you could wish to meet. It was our pleasure to know them and we definitely plan to return. They are so friendly and helpful and certainly made our week. Thanks to you both. Look forward to seeing you again next year.

We stayed a week during May in Oak Tree with our two youngest grandaughters (2 and 6) and were joined mid week by our eldest granddaughter (22). Not withstanding some cool evenings and wet days we were perfectly content with trips out returning each day to a roaring log fire in the very cosy, well equipped accommodation. We had a taste of summer with a couple of late afternoons on the sunny terrace with the kids playing happily in the large field adjacent. Our hosts were helpful and freindly and we will certainly consider returning.

My family and I booked the converted "Honeysuckle cottage" in Kergrist just outside Pontivy during August 2012 after reveiwing & booking online. There are two on site, we stayed in the smaller two-bedroomed cottage that was very welcoming and dominated by a huge fireplace which our youngest Daughter thought was a great 'cubby hole'. Both bedrooms were upstairs, cozy and comfortable with a toilet/shower downstairs.

We were received warmly by Fay and Trevor who own the cottages and the impressive 'Manoir de Guervihan', all reached down a wooded, gravel driveway. Their dog "Digger" also made an instant impact and was much loved and played with for the whole week.

A welcome pack was also much appreciated as we arrived on a Sunday when the shops were closed, it included everything that we needed to tie us over until a visit to the local bakery and shops.

The swimming pool was secure, if not heated. That wasn't a problem for our daughters, but we awaited the sun to shine before taking the plunge. The pool, like the accomodation was very clean and inviting. There were also various inflatables and games (table tennis, volley ball) to keep us entertained and several sunbeds to rest and read in afterwards.

There was a large enclosed garden to the rear of the property with plenty of space for the children to enjoy themselves and a bbq for those sunny evenings.

We ventured out to Pontivy (picturesque town square) and Trevor recommeded a few restaurants, one of which was the excellent L´Auberge de L'île over-looking the river. We also had a couple of days on the sandy beaches of Carnac (allow an hours drive) and having crepes quayside at the mini-Monaco port that is Auray.

We also had a pleasant afternoon in Roscoff on our way home and would recommend this as the best route to and from Brittany.

The whole visit was relaxing and very peaceful. We would definitely recommend it and have already booked the larger four bedroomed 'Oak Tree Cottage' for next summer.
