I stayed two nights at the Chateau d'Isenbourg as part of a Backroads cycling trip. It is a wonderful hotel, gracious and comfortable. My room was spacious and thankfully air conditioned. There is both an outside and indoor pool - although I did not have time for a swim. Breakfast was served in the main restaurant with plenty of choices for everyone. I enjoyed the veranda/bar that looked over the city of Rouffach. All in all a very pleasant stay and a nice place to relax after a day of cycling.

My family and I spent 5 days at the hotel during the summer. It is a beautiful property set amongst vineyards overlooked by the Black Forest. We travelled with 2 children and our dog and all those in our party were catered for beautifully. Each day the children would find a little present left for them in the room, which went down very well and they both took full advantage of the sprawling vineyards to ride the courtesy bikes. The swimming pools were clean and well kept and the tennis court was also very well maintained with access to use it never a problem - again all of these activities were part of the package. You will also get to meet the two resident donkeys and there is always fruit left in a bucket to feed them.

One word of advice is to have deep pockets if you intend to eat and drink at the hotel as a large G&T will set you back E24, a soft drink E6 and the average cost of dinner we spent for 2 with wine was over E200. The food is exceptional in the hotel and you can expect Michellen Standards. There are however places within walking distance if you prefer to keep the budget down.

We did have a little confusion on paying the bill as they advertised a price per stay for the duration supplement for the dog on their website and in the room, but on check out they changed their mind and said 'per day' which was a little naughty.

All in all a wonderful place to visit and I am sure we will return again.

We got a free upgrade to a room with a private and huge terrace overlooking the village and vineyards, private parking place with a gate to the terrace and a private gate leading to the pool. The room was not big, with old and vintage furniture and a painted ceiling in the French fashion, so it is one's personal taste to like it or not. We would wish the bathroom was tidier and fresher. The bed had no proper duvets, just sheets and wool blankets, which seemed strange but we didn't mind considering the general setting and styling. Breakfast lacked vegetables and diversity. Restaurant was very expensive and again lacking in vegetables, so after two dinners there and being a vegetarian I had to look for food elsewhere. However, after all is said and done, it is a unique place amid fantastic sights and views of the Alsace, if you every wanted to stay at a French chateau D'isenbourg is most certainly a place to be tried. It also feels quite warm to be greeted by every single person in the neighborhood, which is a custom in rural areas. It was decidedly an unforgettable stay and anything that lets the place down is really unimportant.

Room Tip: Opt for a room in the main building (chateau)

We got a good deal with Small luxury hotel and stayed for 3 nights.
Th room was spacious, facing the garden/entrance but was a bit dark. The bathroom was ok but not modern at all.
The whole house is wonderful but could be even nicer if they renovated the inside of it.
Great service, but some of the receptionists didn't speak much English. But they tried at least!
Breakfast was lovely and the terrace where you sit and eat it is just perfect! However the hot choices where not so many, only scramble eggs and sausage. No tomatoes, salad or bacon.

You can borrow bikes but they are not so well maintained.
The spa and indoor pool is definite not nice. Pool was filled with sand, shower in the dressing room was kind of broken and dirty. I would never choose this hotel for th spa.
Outdoor pool was however lovely.

Stayed at the Chateau d’Isenbourg one night on my way to Zurich and was very impressed with the service and the quality of room and facilities, considering the age of the property. My upgraded room in the main building was large, bright and airy, very clean and tidy, done in tasteful décor. The temperature outside was in the 30s but surprisingly, the air conditioner kept the room comfortably cool.

The grounds were well-maintained and the view of the town below (Rouffach) and surrounding vineyards was fabulous. Did not have dinner in the restaurant but did have the breakfast which included a good selection of cold and hot items (and eggs you boil yourself), including freshly made coffee and squeezed orange juice. English speaking front desk staff was very helpful to those of us with very little French. Free parking and wifi.

Really recommend it for travelers needing a break from bland city hotels to experience a little French manor life, even for a day.

We had a one-night stay in this spectacular hotel in the middle of July 2012. We booked the "Early Booking" package (198 Euro) which included a night in superior room, breakfast and free entry to the wellness center. Having made our reservation, all sounded very exciting. Unfortunately the reality turned out a little bit disappointing.

The hotel itself is very beautiful. One can see that the owners of this place have made lot of effort to maintain this hotel original and according to its best historical traditions. Our room was very spacious, with antique and very tasteful furnishings and with a beautiful view over the vineyards and village. Also the bar, restaurant and lobby area were cosy and decorated with a lot of taste. Unfortunately the weather was cold and rainy therefore we didn't have a chance to enjoy our evening on the terrace.

Unfortunately we had several unpleasant discoveries on our stay. The bathroom was very small, it didn't meet my hygiene standards and it was outdated (the old hair dryer was totally useless). Secondly, we had trouble with unlocking our room door. The door lock is original but very complicated, so every time we wanted to get into our room it took us a couple of minutes till we managed to turn and pull, and push the key in the right position.

Thirdly, the so called wellness center is nothing more than a tiny swimmingpool, sauna (size for two persons) and a jacuzzi. There is also an outdoor swimming pool available which does look very nice but obviously because of the bad weather it was closed.

The breakfast - all kinds of fresh bread and petit pain, eggs, cheeses and meat, muesli etc. available - was very good. The only disappointment - just like in the other French hotel where we stayed one night before - there was no fresh coffee served. Also when we ordered some cappuccino from the bar on our arrival we got undrinkable coffee from the coffee maker.

Our conclusion would be: The hotel itself is very beautiful and it is definitely worthwhile visiting if one wants to experience a stay in a real French Chateau. But everything else in this hotel is a matter of taste and expectations. Our room, even though very beautiful and comfortable, was not worth 310 Euro!! (the original price) and also the breakfast was not that generous that one should pay 24 Euro per person. So in our opinion this hotel is very charming, but definitely overpriced if you don't book a special deal.

This hotel is set above the valley, overlooking the vineyards, and is surrounded by beautiful grounds. You can enjoy the surroundings from your room, or from the bar terrace, or from the outdoor pool and lounging area, or from the restaurant. There is also an indoor pool and hot tub. It was all very enjoyable.

The staff was friendly. They even handled our lack of foreign language skills well, although not all staff members are equally fluent in English.

The rooms were large and decently appointed. Bathrooms were small but adequate. Both our rooms overlooked the valley below, and from the design of the building I suspect all the rooms do as well.

I can see the hotel working well for a wedding. Lots of picturesque areas and expansive lawns. The food in the restaurant is excellent. There is also a separate terrace for private functions which could hold maybe 50 people.

My one complaint was the ants around the outdoor pool and lounge chairs. Crawling ants made using the chairs impossible. That is easily cured with some insecticide.
