“A gem in Alsace”
Reviewed July 4, 2011

My husband and I stayed there for the weekend in an apartment. It was spacious, separate bathroom and toilet, lounge, kitchenette and bedroom. All well equipped. The apartment was at the back of the hotel. Parking no problem. The staff at reception were friendly and explained all the details of our stay in English! I was amazed how they can change from German or French to English. There was a pool and jacuzzi, we went to see it, it looked very nice and clean. We decided to do the wine tasting at the family's wine tasting facility, Halbeisen. Very friendly service there as well. We bought a case of the Cremant, very reasonably priced.
We did not have dinner at the hotel, only lunch, although the reception staff told us that it would be full if we do not book for dinner. We ate somewhere else dinner, there are other restaurants close by.
We found the breakfast expensive, it was 10 euros per person and not very good.
Overall, a very nice place to stay and will go back there.

We stayed here based 100% on the review of the guy that said that his 8-year-old son loved the pool in the hotel's old cistern. We were on a trip through Germany and France and worried that Alsace's wine tastings wouldn't interest our own 8-year-old daughter. So, after reading about the pool, we booked here instead of the more urban Strassburg or Colmar. It worked out great for us. We got one of the suites, which was nice because it had separate rooms for the parents and child. The hotel is beautiful and great fun, but you pay for it. It's a short drive to larger towns and many vineyards, but you'll need a car.

The pool was as good as advertised -- my daughter met German and Swiss kids to play with and had a blast. You see, all of Europe is on spring break the week before Easter. So, Alsace was overrun with families. Again, great for us. However, the couple that came down to the pool and hot tub with a bottle of Alsatian Cremant and two glasses were not as thrilled to be there at spring break -- far from romantic, it was kid pandemonium. I was impressed that they sallied forth anyway and enjoyed their bubbly (they were definitely European).

The restaurant in the hotel is also really nice. Set below ground, it has great atmosphere. We got lucky and got a walk up table, but reservations would have been smarter. Get the house white, foie gras, and Riesling chicken. Yum!

My husband, 7 yo and myself stayed here for three nights in Sept 2010. What a lovely place to stay. Bergheim is a great place to base yourself for exploring the Alsace wine route and surrounding castles. The hotel is just inside the walls and a s the previous poster has said parking is very easy - you can park out the front to unload and more long term parking just outside the walls. We had a small apartment at the back of the complex - one bedroom, living room and kitchenette with a pull out couch for our son. The living room also opened out onto a rooftop balcony - a large area with about 3 or 4 tables and chairs. Noone else used it while we were there so we felt like it was our private space. The indoor pool and spa area are lovely. Our son loved it.
Breakfast is standard fare but dinners were very nice. If you are in town on a Saturday night I suggest you book somewhere ( we were caught out and ended up eating at the hotel for dinner twice which we don't normally like to do).
There is free internet in a small room which is a bonus.
We did indulge our son and took him to Europa park which is 30 mins drive away. The park is a large theme park similar to Disneyland but with smokers everywhere ( this was a common theme - we just found it more noticeable as we live in a smoke free environment at home). It is more suited to teenagers than young kids - in the end he preferred Legoland.
On leaving if you are driving west - try and do it going through the mountains rather than around. It takes longer but the scenery is beautiful.

I'd never been to Alsace before, and wasn't sure what to expect. On the way to the hotel, each village seemed more and more chocolate box. Bergheim itself is a gorgeous walled town in the heart of wine region.
The hotel is just inside the main gate and you can (if lucky) park on the street right outside, although there is also plenty of parking within 100-200m. You enter through the main courtyard which is very atmospheric and beautifully hung with flower baskets. The owners are friendly and helpful, and will speak English if you are struggling with your French.
Our room was up over the main courtyard and had a sitting room/kitchen, a bedroom, a separate toilet, and a bathroom. The bed was slightly small (we have a superking at home, so I am spoilt), but everything else was just as needed. This included two bottles of their own wine in the fridge as a minibar - I can definitely recommend the cremant - delicious and very affordable!
There are also good facilities - a pool/jacuzzi as well as spa options. The restaurant was lovely - the tarte flambees are delicious and very good value if not wildly healthy! My only slight dislike was the difference in the price of the wine in the room v in the restaurant, but that's not completely surprising.
Bergheim is a nice village/town to explore and is a good centre for sightseeing and wine exploring. I recommend the hotel's own wines as well - their tasting place is only 5 minutes walk away.

Well situated in the town and we received a great welcome and full explanation of facilities which include a swimming pool and jacuzzi. Eating in the restaurant became a hit and miss affair however when it came to service and speed, and the staff seem to all take frequent breaks together so if you require the service of a drink, you have to encounter a frown from a table full before somebody deigns to serve you. The staff are either really friendly and helpful, or treat you as an inconvenience and you never know what you are going to get until you have been there for a little while and know who is who (do the management?) Rooms clean and tidy although ours had a wetroom which fails and floods the entire room. Main restaurant impressive in its decoration, shame they use a different one for breakfast with very old and faded cheap plastic tables and chairs outside which is also used compulsorarily if you eat off the cheaper menu in the evening.

The studio we stayed in was fine. It had clean and modern bathroom and kitchenette. The heater was a little outdated and there was no air conditioning system.

Indoor spa is enjoyable and clean, yet overcrowded during peak seasons. Breakfast is overpriced.

Bergheim is a nice little traditional town, but not tourist-friendly and there is no nightlife. You'd better have a car and travel to nearby Riquewiher, Ribeauvillé, or Colmar.

My wife and I stayed for one night at La Cour du Bailli in September. Our room was adequate but a little faded and in need of a facelift. Also there was no lift (which were aware of), but it was not too easy navigating up a steep staircase with our suitcases.

Its best feature is the location which is right in the centre of beautiful Bergheim. We passed on the 10E breakfast - much better value is a croissant and café au lait just up the street.
