Le Gambrinus could well be from a fairy tale. It reminds of Hansel and Gretel. The larger suite is fabulous, with a larger sitting room, separate toilet, complete and modern bathroom, lovely bedroom and small balcony with table and chairs for a romantic evening together. The breakfast is unsurpassed in its quality and all you can wish for to have a good start of the day : a variety of breads, croissants and sweet rolls, superb coffee or tea and juice, cheese and ham. In the same street you can taste and buy the best wines the Alsace has on offer. And the prices ? Unsurpassed as well.

Room Tip: The larger suite ( 45 m2) will cost you 20 Euro more, buying you the extra value worth the price.

This was probably the weirdest place I've stayed in, but it was great fun and was generally pretty good value.
Le Gambrinus is tucked in a hidden away corner of a hidden away cul-de-sac in the middle of Beblenheim. We had reserved a double room for 2 but what we got was a good sized apartment with a double bed, kitchenette, dining table, bathroom, wc, balcony and 2nd bedroom with twin beds.
This was shown to us by an excitable and very friendly owner who was also running the busy downstairs bar and cooking "tartes flambes" to order in the wood fired ovens.
The room- and indeed the whole place is very old but very clean and very nicely appointed with curiosities and ornaments. Our room was all wood, floor, ceiling and walls, the furniture was all wood and all the built in cupboards etc were wooden. The excellent TV (French & German Stations only) unfortunately not made in a wood finish and so it stood out against everything else in the room.
The bathroom was very good with an excellent shower. The air extract did not seem to work and the wc would benefit from a curtain to save having to not put the light on after dark for those of a modest disposition.
We ate in the busy bar and greadily went for 3 of the Tartes Flambes, a beer, 50cl of wine, coffee and digestive. 40 Euros for 2 people was not necessarilly great value elsewhere, but in France, it is close to a bargain! The menu is very limited and a truer sample of Alsace cuisine would need a trip elsewhere and a thicker wallet.
Breakfast was served in the bar and was excellent. The breads, chesses and meats were excellent and plentiful.
I could not get the wifi to work despite several attempts and not having any problems elsewhere. The owner seemed to think everything was working ok. Parking is very hit or miss and is going to be on the road somewhere nearby. Beblenheim is so quiet at night it is difficult to think there is any crime problem.
The owner also makes wooden furniture and has a studio next to the bar. He and his family also seem to own the nearby corner shop supermarket and off licence.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Beblenheim was very nice to wander around in.

Room Tip: The bar is small and gets busy, so book a table or be prepared to wait a while.

This is a beautiful place to stay, made completely authentic by lovely old furnishings and thoughtful decor. The timbers of the ancient building plus the smell of wood smoke from the ovens, make the place feel warm, secure and welcoming . However the welcome comes from the kindness and care of the owner - thanks Mme Klein!

The pub seemed always packed but not overly noisy, just the buzz of conversation. The tarte flambee is deliicious and the service is charming but frantic and anarchic, with loud public debates between the staff over whose order was whose and cheering when orders finally arrived. Chaos, but really fun.

Beblenheim is beautiful and a quiet, less touristic version of Riquewihr (2miles away). A great base from which to tour the villages - by bike is best.

We will definitely go back.

We recently stayed in an apartment (sleeps 4) at the Gambrinus in Beblenheim. The apartment was well decorated in a traditional Alsacian style and we enjoyed having the tavern and little restaurant on-site. The wood burning ovens were lit around 5:00pm downstairs and then tartes flambés were served on the terrace or in the tavern each evening. The owner and staff were friendly and helpful and gave us tips for interesting sights and other restaurants in the area. The only downside was the apartment was warm at night due to the hot summer temperatures that week but there were 2 small fans in the room to help cool it down. We had an enjoyable stay at the Gambrinus and would recommend it to others!!
