“Price, Location- Near Beach and Airport, Quiet, Pool Villa”
Reviewed February 26, 2014

It was a good stay for us at the Rama beach resort. We had a mixed experience the first night, but that was quickly taken care of and we completely enjoyed the rest of our stay here. Here's our experience in detail:

After having stayed in Ubud for three nights, we checked into Rama Beach Resort for the next leg of out Bali tour to enjoy the sun, sand, shopping and party scene in and around Kuta. We arrived at the hotel around 7 in the evening. The first evening wasn't one of the best experiences here. During check-in, we were asked to pay for the other two nights, as they had charged us for only one night when we made the booking online. While paying in advance is not an issue, they should have charged us right when we booked, avoiding the unnecessary hassle of counting cash while you wait to be checked in. Quickly after paying, we were taken to the superior room, and well, it wasn't a delight to say the least. Three major problems- the room was connected to another room with a closed door separating the two. We could hear kids shouting in the other room. That's not what I call the best ambience for your anniversary. Secondly the tiles in the washroom didn't look the cleanest. They were old for sure; and when you took a shower water would flow down outside the shower area and wet the entire washroom floor. Thirdly and most irritatingly, there was no double bed. It was two single beds joined together with a gap in between. I couldn't sleep well that night. My wife was furious the next morning. We complained at the desk, and thankfully the staff listened to us and said they will change our room. We proceeded for breakfast which is a pretty good spread and while going out to the beach, were told that we were being upgraded to the pool villa. We thanked them and moved out. On coming back to the hotel, the villa we were taken too, dissipated all our irritation accumulated so far. This surely was delight. It was a big room, with a big washroom and a to top it all a nice private pool all for yourself. We loved the setting and made the best use of it. This nice touch, helped get our trip to a nice climax as we enjoyed our short stay in Kuta to the fullest.

Our quick take on rest of the things:
1. Overall Property: Slightly old, but getting renovated in batches. Hope it gets better with time.

2. Main pool: Pretty and soothing with plenty of loungers around and a bar too

3. Restaurant: Nice

4. Breakfast: The spread was good with a nice mix of continental and local cuisine

5. Staff: Friendly and pleasant

6. Spa: Main spa is under renovation, so operating from two superior rooms. We had got a coupon each as hotel guests, to avail a discounted price of Rp 190k each. We used this after checking out on the final day as our flight was at night. The massage was decent, but not great. You can get far cheaper spas and massages outside, anywhere on the roads of Kuta.

7. Access and location: 2 minutes walk to the quiet Tuban beach. Kuta beach is a 15 minute walk by the beach while you soak up the sea on one side and resorts and restaurants on the other while walking along the nice footpath/walkway. Main Kuta street is also barely a 15 minute walk from the resort. Airport is very near, and helps avoid the usual Bali traffic. They provided us free airport drop as part of the package and that was nice.

8. Other facilities: They offer a free bicycle to tour the local area. Great. We wanted to but coudn't manage to take a cycle trip.

9. Overall: A good place to spend your holidays. Just don't book superior rooms, not until they are completely renovated which is going on currently.

Room Tip: Book the pool villa or garden villa. The pool villa is worth the price.

11-18/1/14: First time in Bali. love this hotel, staff were great, love the omelette guy! showed him how to make a 1 yolk omelette, he had them ready for my daughter & I everyday with a smile. we used the $10 airport pick up service, as it was our first time in Bali. good move!
THE ROOM: we had a garden villa for my husband & I & 18yr old daughter. they set up a full size bed with a great matteress. im very fussy & read the reviews about dirty Linen, so first thing I checked. ours was perfect, no stains, no complaints. yeah pillows a bit hard, but not that bad, and at least we had enough of them! tv good size, good control, worked perfectly. couple of comfy chairs, and a little table, plus tables & chairs in yard, they were great. the air con worked well. plenty of floor space in the bedroom, for suitcases, etc. ie yes you can easily swing a cat or 2! good wardrobe, however, my one complaint about the room, there was no light next to it, only small light in it, and you could literally not see what was in the drawers! I had to use my phone to see in the drawer. no biggie though. good safe in the wardrobe. bathroom, I just loved. this is Bali folks, its humid, and for all that I couldn't see any obvious mold. I found it quaint not dated, and I loved the big tub in the window, with plenty of bench space around it to put books, or a glass of wine! the toilet blocked up one night, I reported it to desk before breaky, it was fixed by the time we returned. the room was beautifully made up & cleaned everyday by about 11, except the day it pelted rain! then it was about 12.30, no biggie.
BREAKFAST BUFFET: loved it. so much fresh fruit, cut up or whole. so delicious. plenty of pastries for my hubby. baked beans, bacon (but not aussie style!!) hash browns, baked tomatoes, they will cook you eggs any style, omelettes, chines stir fry, there was different hot foods every day, different juices 9very yum) cereal & milk. and the coffee tasted like coffee, they keep it coming. and hey, it was included so??
FOOD: we had a couple of meals there, but for the price, you can do better outside. the food was fine, but the servings small, and the chef and the lady in charge hover & drive you nuts! its very annoying. I don't like people to stand there & watch me eat! so we went over the road, food was cheap, big servings, just watch the bugs. up the road to the left, near the round about, there is a small chinese place, OMG the food is incredible, its always packed. $13 aussie dollars buys you 4 dishes plus rice and drinks, its hot & delicious. and the young girl working there is so nice.
POOL ETC: great pool, lovely & clean ( we said no to upgrading to pool room for $50 night cos it looked a bit grungy, & the hotel pool was spotless, plenty of chairs around it.) pool table. nice towels available, not those small thin ones.
LOCATION: I loved the location. there is a beautiful place across the street, we sneaked in & used their gym (state of the art!) everyday! its only a 2 min walk to the beach. there is a free shuttle to the shopping centre "discovery" next to kuta 3 times a day. don't waste your time in the malls, same prices as here. except bread top etc, that's dirt cheap! ignore the free win tickets out the front! to the left of discovery there is a shop called Diannes, its fixed price, dresses $7, better and easier than haggling which I really didn't like. THE OTHER THING about the location, is the area around the hotel doesn't smell any where near as bad as Kuta. the stench of sewerage in Kuta made me sick. the beach there is disgusting. for a relaxing holiday, if you want a nice reasonable hotel in a QUIET area, but close to the action. this cant be beat. YES I would return to this hotel.

Room Tip: love walking out in the morning to Frangipani flowers all around you, they shouldn't pick them u...

We have stayed at this hotel several times, its in a quiet location, the breakfast is buffet style with a range of different cuisine. The rooms do need refurbishing, the deluxe rooms are very spacious, the bathroom needs refurshing, the toiled seat was loose. The pillows are so hard, and this actually caused us problems as you did not get a good night sleep. The actual pillow is larger than the pillow case and very uncomfortable to sleep on. We did mention this to staff, and nothing was done. The previous time we came we actually took our own pillows but this time we forgot. The swimming pool is warm and beautiful to swim in. The hotel is away from the main shopping but they have a shuttle that takes you to Centro three times a day.
I mentioned on my last write up that their tea was tasteless and undrikable during breakfast, so weak without any flavour, this has not changed and the coffee is so strong its bitter and this has not changed during breakfast. Overall its a nice hotel away from the noise, if they only refurbished thier deluxe rooms and got rid of all the green moss that is covering the walls of the balconies which gives a mouldy smell this would make a huge difference. There is no privacy in the toilet/bathroom as there is an open rool up shutter made from cane, which you can see through from the bedroom into the toilet, and there is on glass covering it, it just hangs and is see through.

Room Tip: private pool villa is very different to the rest of the other rooms, maybe worth paying the extra fo...

First visit at Rama Beach Resort and Villas. Close to airport - Got a blue bird taxi outside the airport area (short walk through the car park). Taxi driver charged us RP25,000 including bags. 5 mins drive to the villa. Excellent value in Kuta area. Staffs were extremely helpful and friendly when we arrived. Served with chilled wet towel and pineapple juice which was tasty.
The pool villa was great. The shower cap was missing in the bathroom however the staff was quick and prompt to give one.
Buffet breakfast was good - choices change every day. The pool outside the restaurant gives a pleasant environment for swim as well as sunbathing.
We had two full body massage vouchers which we only pay RP190,000 per person for 60 mins. Great value as you don't get any cheaper here in HK.
The only thing that I dislike was the unpleasant bleaching water smell when I walked past between the restaurant and the pool.
