“The Best Hotel In Kuta, Legian or Tuban! Simply perfect!”
Reviewed January 26, 2010

As a regular traveler to Bali (Bali 35 times) with young children I have stayed in a lot of the hotels in the Legian, Tuban and Kuta Areas but this hotel beats them all, pants down.

I had stayed in this hotel before its recent re-opening and it was nice then but the modernization and upgrades have made it a truly first class hotel.

The hotel is beach front, with meticulously manicured grounds and absolute beachfront.
The pool is not massive but it is never crowded or full of beer drinking Bogans who frequent some of the hotels with in pool bars, which this one has but without the full time drinkers!

What sets this hotel apart from many of the other 'large' hotels is the way it is laid out. The hotel is not a long skinny hotel which ends at the beach, rather, it is shaped in almost a fan shape with an extremely wide beach frontage, which helps to make it feel like there are never many people there.

The day beds and Cabanas are plentiful.

Restaurants and food are first class and the attention to detail is incredible.

The previous reports about the rooms on this site are very accurate. We looked at all the room types and they were all very different but all were immaculately clean and well presented. Yes, the superior rooms are smaller and the bathrooms are also small, but who goes to Bali to spend it in the bathroom. If you want a bigger bathroom, go for the superior Garden or superior ocean rooms for an extra 20 or 30 bucks a night.

There are a many other reasons why this hotel is great but other than mentioning the incredible staff, go and check it out and see for yourself. Enjoy!

I just love the Kid's Suite, next time I'll post more photos (have to dig in my hubby's camera, because he's the one who take most of the photos).

Quick check in, we were allowed to see other type of the room (Baruna suite) before finally made up our mind to choose Kid's suite, because we got some advantages for kids i.e : bunk bed for kids in their own room, altough it's quite compact but it fit them (we have 2 kids), XBox 360, free usage of kid's club (the "rascal") & free lunch for them.

While we stayed there, there was spa's special offer, which was body massage for couple, but sadly I have to pass it, because it was rain & wind blew so strong, I'll bet it would be nice to have massage after dinner :).
Price for spa : a bit over priced, but.. I fell asleep while I have treatment :), nice massage & surrounding!

food was so..so.., but kids are free if they under 12 & parents buy buffet menu all you can eat..!
price for buffet : yup.. still over priced, but it's 5 stars we're talking about...

staffs are great, but 1 which made me a bit disspointment, was the cleaner of our room, well maybe he was new, because he can't tell wether the pool has slide or not! (which they don't ).

Have to take taxi to find more food outside the hotel (+/- Rp. 15.000) to around Discovery Mall or Kuta .

But, overall, we like it !!

This was a very pleasant surprise! And new!!! And if you've been to Asia before, you'll know that NEW is a very important part of a nice hotel.

Apparently this hotel is the first "resort" that the Holiday Inn has done and its a great place to stay!

They've thought of everything. From the icecream shop to the many big bales around the pool to pool toys to the lovely lighting, the 2 different types of restaurants, the well-priced 'essentials' shop which is open to midnight, to the 'teenagers only' area with playstations etc, I can't even remember everything this place has.

The rooms are lovely, the only downside being that they're pretty cramped. But the twin rooms have WONDERFUL king-sized single beds - so comfortable I thought I was sleeping on my $4k kingsdown mattress at home.

The breakfasts are brilliant. As good as any breakfast including the expensive hotels in Nusa Dua (where we often stay).

Management is excellent, very attentive and friendly. All the staff are wonderful.

I plan on staying here again in Feb 2010 and this will be the hotel I reccommend to the guests coming over for my wedding in Bali in June.

We just stayed in Holiday Inn last week. Normally when ever we go to Bali, we like to stay in villas, but this time, base on our friends' recommendation, we stayed in Holiday Inn for 2 nights at Kids Suite.
I have to admit, this idea a room inside a room is great with couple with young children. The room is full furnished with xbox, dvd, ipod dock. For some reason, some part of our room's floor always feel moist, while the rest is not. I love the bathroom. We can all take a bath at the same time. Holiday Inn also generous with towels, toiletries and such.
Dinner at Envy is also satisfying but dinner at the Palm is just average. Breakfast at the Palm is good.
I love the 2 for 1 cocktail hour. But I think the beach need to be cleaned further down to the water level. Part of the reason the guests do not laying sunbathing in the beach is because there are debris from the sea such as dead blow fish, sea eels, etc. It's cool for my kids to see, but it is not cool for them to play there.

Two words not always associated with Bali hotels are ‘clean and modern.’ If you’ve travelled to Bali before you know that many hotels can be ‘dated and mouldy,’ this is not the case at the Holiday Inn Baruna.

All the previous comments about the friendly staff are true. The bar staff at Envy (their beach bar) are helpful without being pushy.

The actual rooms are new and inviting, we stayed in an ocean view room and would recommend. The in-room bathrooms do have glass walls and curtains; however, as a couple this was not a problem, when the curtain is shut you have privacy. Also, ignore previous negative comments about room size, the size of the ocean view room was fine.

Grounds

Holiday Inn Baruna has a great Pool with pool bar, and plenty of sun chairs and cabanas. The front of the hotel looks directly to the beach with the hotel having security guards out front. You will not get hassled for a massage or hair braiding if you stay directly in front of the hotel.

Night / Music

The Hotel looks fantastic at night with the subtle lighting. There is actually quite cool down-tempo and chilled music playing, giving the place a classy relaxing atmosphere.

Location

5 mins from the airport by taxi. You can see planes landing in the distance if you walk to the beach but definitely hear nothing, sort of cool if you plane-spot.

Yes the hotel is 10mins from the main strip of Kuta, however, this is a POSITIVE. #1 – You can hire scooters about 2min walk from the hotel for about $20 USD per day (500,000 rp deposit) and get EVERYWHERE. #2 – Who wants to be in Kuta 24/7 next to 20 other hotels all the same anyways?

Recommended.

After a very brief and inexpensive taxi ride from the airport, my first impression of this resort was positive. The foyer was impressive and the staff attentive in very trendy uniforms. The whole place looked new and fresh.
Over the internet I had selected to stay in a standard room which was more inexpensive than either a pool or garden view room. However on viewing the room I was disappointed. It was very cramped, had a tiny balcony that could only fit one chair and had no privacy from the rooms on either side. The outlook was not very good either looking straight into a residental house.
We decided then that we would be happy to pay an extra $30 US a night for a pool view room. Unfrotunately the resort was fuly booked so we were not able to make the upgrade for two night, but the move was certainly worth the money. This room was spacious, clean had a great outlook to the pool and the ocean and a big private balcony.
All staff were flawless in their friendliness and good service. Each day the included breakfast was the best meal of the day with a great variety of food to choose from. Resort meals by the pool were reasonably priced and we took advantage of the daily happy hour for half priced cocktails. The pool itself was big and warm with solar heating. There were plenty of sun and day beds always available.
Overall I would recommend this resort it is newly fitted out, all the beds and furnishings are new too and very comfortable. The one downside to this resort is that it is a fair walk to access the shops, restaurants and bars in nearby Kuta. We often had to use a taxi especially when it was to hot to walk.
