“Cool Hotel, But....”
Reviewed August 14, 2009

This Holiday Inn hotel is really cool, hip, and stylish. The music they play throughout is amazing, and the rooms are all modern, clean and have the most comfortable beds I've never slept in. But, the price we were charged was extremely high. We actually were going to book online for much cheaper, but we decided to check the rate upon arrival since we had no prior reservation and were leaving the horrible Villa Balquisse. We needed a room that night, so the manager, a nice Australian lady, gave us the highest price, higher than we saw online the previous day. So, we had a great stay, but felt ripped off by the manager. So, we won't return to this Holiday Inn. Also, there is a beach, but you can't use it, as the sand is full of sharp stones that could cut your feet, and boats in the water. Great if you just need a great place to stay and hopefully won't be ripped off by the manager on the price. If you plan on using the internet, go to the internet cafe just down the road, as Holiday Inn charges you 1,000 RP per minute! Such a rip off. They don't even have internet in the room or lobby.

We got a Garden View room on the internet in Holiday Inn's Asia sale and although we had never stayed in Tuban before, decided to give it a go as most of the other hotels we wanted were fully booked - Bali is buzzing again! The room was small, but the bathroom was even smaller, I think the toilet is way too big for the size of the bathroom! Anyway it was suitable enough for just the two of us. The pool area was really lovely and what we like was that there were no pool hogs. In fact if towels were left on pool chairs for too long the staff removed them, so there was never a problem of not being able to get a chair. Not a great deal of shade yet, the garden is still growing and we had to move the chairs around to get the shade from the umbrella's. Service was great and the staff lovely. It was not too far from the shops, having a lovely walk down the beach about 15 mins and you were in Kuta, suited me great as away from all the hussle and bussle. We would definitely recommend it to other travellers, but I think if we go there again will definitely try and get a bigger room (or bathroom anyway!)

We stayed a week at the Holiday Inn Resort a week in July this year.
First of all it is a nice hotel with a very good location. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Anyhow, the hotel has been opened as a Holiday Inn for just under 6 months and the management team has some homework to do for getting this hotel up on the road.

We arrived late in the evening and the ordered hotel pick up were not at the airport. After calling the hotel the promised pick up showed up 45 min later (the hotel is just 5 min. away from the airport) but the car was not able to take us to the hotel though we were 4 persons and had suitcases. It took 1,5 hour to take our family to the hotel from the airport even though the we had ordered a pick up (confirmed) a car for 4 persons.

When we finally arrived to the hotel the check in procedure was awfully slow. It took another 45 min to get us checked in, although I am Priority Club Platina Member. The reason wasn’t that it was too many people checking but the staff was slow and untrained.

The first 4 nights in our stay we had reward nights and were given 2 superior rooms. The rooms are SMALL but nice and clean. Though it is too many furniture’s in these rooms.

All rooms are equipped with a WiFi broadband connection. The price for 24 hours use is approx. US$ 20 (Silly) and service given is absolutely at lowest quality. In short terms DON’T USE IT!!! I complained about the quality but was given no compensation and was also given the advice to have one of the staff supervising me when I used it next time. I told the staff that I spend more than 50 nights a year in Holiday Inn /Intercontinental hotels and that I know how a WiFi system works.

The conclusion has to be that the WiFi has to be free of charge and the quality of the WiFi service has to be improved.

The staffs at the hotel are young and ambitious, but sometimes it goes wrong due to that. For example we were woken up by housekeeping at 08.45 and returning of laundry at 08.15 in the morning.

After our four reward nights we had far better room with a nice pool/sea view which was absolutely really nice. The pool area is really nice and the pool bar has great service and really drinks.

In total, Holiday Inn Bali has every possibility of becoming a really nice resort, but they still have some homework to do.

Efficient and friendly hotel, quiet and away from the tourist hotspots. Good size rooms although sea view is a stretch from some, and child friendly restaurant with standard food choices. Beach nearby but bland. Adequate pool and lounger area.

What a great hotel and lets hope it stays a secret! Form the moment we hopped off the plane and had the hotel bus waiting for us we had a hassle free vacation!
5 minutes and we were at the hotel entrance being given had towels and iced tea cocktails! Our room wasnt ready due to our early arrival so we were upgraded to a beautiful suite overlooking the pool on the third floor with a giant balcony and views over the ocean! The shower was bigger than most bathrooms in hotels and the layout was excellent.
The pool was quiet so great for the kids with the little kids pool great as well. The kids club was fantastic and gave us some free time to get great massages on the road to the hotel.
Walking distance to the shopping mall and some great restaurants on the beach makes this hotel so convenient.
Thoroughly recommended for those that dont want the hussle and bussle of the Dynasty!

We arrived at the hotel after a long flight from the UK. The reception area was open air and very welcoming and the staff were extremely helpful. We were immediately upgraded to a garden room on arrival (we had booked on a points stay so were expecting the lowest grade room) Previous reviews about the small size of the room were exaggerated, the size was perfectly adequate - if anything there was too much furniture in the room which made it feel smaller!
Breakfast was plentiful with a good choice - I loved the mini order pads at the tables so you could order your cooked breakfast at your table and have it cooked to order whilst enjoying your coffee and juices - however......... the price was expensive - almost £11 per person per day, so we alternated with a restaurant a short walk down the beach where you could get a decent breakfast for about £2!
The service at the hotel cannot be faulted. We had problems with the power cutting out several times, one time being at 2.30 in the morning when the emergency lights came on automatically. A service engineer was sent to the room within 10 minutes of us calling reception to report the fault, and when we also found a leak from the shower room into the bedroom, we were moved to an upgraded pool room for the last few nights of our stay so that the room could be repaired.
The manager's cocktail party was a good opportunity to met the staff who could not have been more friendly or welcoming. Management were really enthusiastic about the hotel and how they could improve the customer experience.
Highlights of our trip were the fantastic sunsets in the evening and also the very good diving spots to the other side of the island. Manta Point was a fantastic dive highly recommended - we couldn't decide if we saw 3 or 5 manta rays during the dive and they must have been at least 4 metres fin tip to fin tip - awesome!!!!.

Like any other trip, I was initially observing the tangibles - eg, room size, cleanliness, food quality, location, staff - to which I give the Baruna 3.5 out of 5.0 score (please see below for details). However, in retrospect, I felt that the hotel offered a lot more on the intangibles, thus it deserves the 4.0/ 5.0 score.

What makes the hotel's "intangible" great are: 1) relaxing atmosphere - the hotel and staffs did a great job of creating a casual yet convenient hence a relaxing atmosphere. 2) while some may view the location is a bit off the centre of Kuta, the walk from the hotel to Kuta is literally 15-20mins and is great during sunset or in the morning (you can stroll down the beach or through a walkway connecting Tuban-Kuta).

On the tangibles:
Room: new and clean, but as other reviewers have said, is too small. Moreover, the room layout and amenities are inefficient (eg, too many unnecessary amenities and space) . We booked superior rooms and they put us in a room at the back side of the hotel with a view of staff housing at the next door Patra hotel - well, what you ask is what you get I guess...
Food: average, but not too pricey. On the plus side, they are quite efficient in taking our orders for eggs and pancakes/ waffles during b'fast (do order the waffles, they're great!).
Staffs: friendly and motivated.
Facilities: a bit standard... but overall quite nice.
Swimming pool is small, although nice.
Kids playground is also small but enough if there aren't that many guests around. It's disappointing that they charge quite a bit for guests just to use the kids club.
The restaurants Palms and Envy are nice. We did try the Envy (bar by the beach) at night and it's really cool.
The hotel has a small convenient store inside which according to the staffs charge same price as outside (it's true!) - we found this to be very convenient since we do need a lot of mineral waters.
Spa - we didn't try the hotel spa, but the Green Garden spa across the street is great.

In overall, we found the experience to be a pleasant one. It's a great value for money and a great alternative if hotels in Legian area (our favorite spot in Bali) is full.
